Seems like a good place to talk about beloved Portuguese filmmaker Manoel de Oliveira, the oldest film director ever. In 2012, his final feature film Gebo and the Shadow premiered at the Venice International Film Festival. He was 104 years old. It was his 31st feature film, with his first, Aniki-Bóbó, having been released in 1942. But that's not all, because his earliest work in the industry came when he and his friends worked on, but did not finish, a film about Portugal's involvement in World War I all the way back in 1927, and after Gebo and the Shadow he would go on to make two more short films, the last of which premiered in 2014. All in all, his active film career lasted 87 years, and is the only film career in history to span from the silent era to the modern digital era. In an interview less than 5 months before his death at the age of 106, he claimed he still had plans for future films.
55:45 Some of the death scenes in this movie were so realistic that the director was arrested for murder. He had ordered the actors to lay low for a year to increase the illusion that the deaths were not simulated, but after his arrest he had to produce the actors alive to prove that the deaths were, in fact, simulated. That no murder had actually taken place.

Here’s another one: the record for the most costume changes by a single character in a movie is Madonna in the 1996 adaptation of Evita, with Madonna as the title character’s 85 costume changes!
53:40 this was one of the most harrowing scenes I ever saw as a kid and now I realize it's because it was real and no effects. God that's insane, they could have faked it, they are so lucky that went okay. Were all the stunts practical in that movie because if so, holy shit dude. That movie made me sweat more than every slasher and horror film I ever watched. Amazing music score as well.
You know, I appreciate that you do a deep dive into each of these. Your research shows. Some folks would be happy just reciting what's on Wikipedia, but you followed up on sources and called out discrepancies.
40:35 Actually, this record is potentially rewarded to Christian Bale who had initially bulked up to 220 lbs (from 120 lbs) for 'Batman Begins' (2005), but cut back to 200 after purportedly being considered too big by the studio executives. All this after emaciating himself for 'The Machinist' (2004) (hence the 120 lbs weight attribute). Edit: Amended punctuation on second movie title.

36:47 bro I have a Metropolis picture that I found at the goodwill. It's on wood and the design on the poster is on the planks of wood and it's sick! I am so happy to have it now
The thing that I find so interesting about Linklater directing Merrily We Roll Along is that the very structure of the show provides so much specificity to how it should be directed. Sondheim wrote the score in effectively reverse so the show has it to where the opening number is more adjacent to the finale of the show and the first appearance of songs was usually the reprise while the reprise was the actual form. It's complicated, but this would imply that the film is going to be shot similarly in reverse. It's going to be an interesting experience, no doubt and I'm all for it when the movie finally releases.
Speaking of H.B. Halicki he also has the world record for the longest continuous car chase for Gone in 60 Seconds, clocking in at 42 minutes and 40 seconds, the film's length is 1 hour 45, that fucking car chase is 2/5ths of the film's full length

@@joeyengelman Unfortunately, I can't help but feel like Geno Samuel is going to keep producing it until Chris Chan dies. I really hope I'm wrong in this but still no record any time soon x
Not having a go at Geno Samuel as a documentarian but he's covering a really depressing topic that I feel he should move on from x
@@nejdalej He has still not caught up to the recent date, and I'll doubt the documentary will go past the prison arc. We know Chris will be locked up for quite some time, and there's simply nothing to document except a few letters and some very rare updates.
If you actually do want to see someone get documented until their death, look no further than Amberlynn Reid of LifeByJen, the latter is already deceased.
I love love love your iceberg videos. So interesting to me as a fan of pop culture history/trivia. I'm sure these take a ton of work but i will be eagerly awaiting the next one to add to my iceberg vid rotation
thanks kari glad you like them!
This will be the highlight of my week! No, even a month! Thank you _so_ much for _all_ the hard work you did to make this video! We really really appreciate it! :))
UPD. Just watched the entire video. What a journey that was! Totally worth the wait! Even got some movies in my "must watch" list :) Also, now I feel like I need to read all there is available about that cult leader guy. Never heard of him before. What a fascinating person (not in a good way).
Let me just say it one more time: Joey, you're the GOAT for making this video and for an _insane_ amount of time work you put into it. Still wish I could give you at least some money, because all this work should and deserves to be rewarded properly. But it's literally impossible due to where I'm from :( Let's hope that maybe someday I will be able to do it.
Thank you my friend I'm so appreciative of the support, hope you enjoy the video!
@@joeyengelman I know for sure that I will!
My oh my, man I must say your editing is fantastic! This video was 1 hour, but it felt just like a regular 10 minute video. Love your commentary and visuals, Keep up the great work man!
hey thank you that really means a lot!
Really enjoyed this video! Very imformative, with great editing and sense of humor.
thanks i appreciate that!
are you Δ
I love the way you make these icebergs, straight to the point, reference photos and videos and actually funny. Love the content!
hey thank you!
I'm sorry but do you actually expect me to be afraid of someone named Mr. Boogens, Jr?
So happy for you Joey, glad to see the previous video is close to 1 million views and another one of your videos surpassed 1 million. Congrats on 100k subscribers 👏
thanks for the kind words kazoo, still crazy to see that
Jesus man... this is a genuinely great video!
I can't imagine the effort... Well done, man!
hey thank you Dylan it was a labor of love!
Great job as always. One whole hour of good content and it felt like a 5 minute video
thank you john!
G'day Joey. The wait has finally arrived, after hearing how passionate you have been during your livestreams.
I must say, the wait was worth it as I found it highly entertaining plus very informative. I learnt a lot.
Thanks again for the iceberg video and looking forward to seeing more.
P.S - can't wait for your next livestream as I often enjoy taking part on a Friday morning here in Sydney.
thanks cag really glad you think so 🙌
52:59 this record was actually beaten by Weezer for their music video for Troublemaker
Here’s another one: the record for the most costume changes by a single character in a movie is Madonna in the 1996 adaptation of Evita, with Madonna as the title character’s 85 costume changes!
I love these videos! Especially the film ones! Please keep doing them!
Thanks David, will do!
Editing gold lmao . This was a very good video.
18:23 TBH I wouldn't be suprised if a fly got stock on one of Vincent's Paintings!
So depending on how you cut it (pun originally unintended) it's atleast 80 lbs gained for a movie role in this instance.
Going from a big guy, to emaciting yourself, to then immediately bulking up like crazy is downright horrifying. I'm surprised he's still alive.
1:02 did he really think the Euros sign was for Pounds? 😂 mericans
I've never crossed your channel before, but I found this video utterly delightful *=)* It gets harder and harder to find videos not regurgitating the same stuff over and over..you Sir, rose to the occasion *=)* awesome job! I'll be watching more of your content *=)*
hey thank you! 💛
Been waiting for this video for so long🤩
honestly same lol thanks for the patience 🙏
34:26 El Royale is amazing. The other film Goddard wrote and directed is Cabin in the Woods. And that's not including other movies he wrote (Cloverfield, World War Z, The Martian) and TV projects he's worked on (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Alias, Lost, Daredevil, The Good Place). Dude has got a pretty solid track record.
1,197 LANGUAGES 😱! THAT MANY LANGUAGES EXIST!
i was pretty taken aback by that too
The irony of the fly being stuck in a painting in a movie about Van Gogh when there's an actual Van Gogh painting out there with a grasshoper stuck in it (Olive Trees is the painting)
I feel dirty for not knowing about Fresh Guacamole, apologies. Gotta fix that very soon. And awesome video once again, the length seems daunting but all of your iceberg videos have been beyond great so this is for the better. Hope to see more of these and Fall Guys Livestreams soon
hey thank you! it’s the biggest video project I’ve ever done and I’m glad I finally get to share it with everyone
Straight to the point of the video + unique icebergs and a great way of presenting them. Great stuff
hey i appreciate it, thanks for watching
There's an Indian film called "indrasabha" released in 1932.
72 songs, most in a musical ever.
The run time is 211 minutes.
Your editing on this video is superb! The fact that you narrate it - Excellent. There aren't any computers talking to me A+++. Subscribed :)
the edits on these videos are insane! although, I think your videos will do a lot better with more enthusiasm and maybe a little less sound effects, lol
"What the dog doin?"
😂
8:50
6:23 There was that one guy who made a movie entirely on his own for about 13 years but it isn't in the world record books (I think)
36:47 bro I have a Metropolis picture that I found at the goodwill. It's on wood and the design on the poster is on the planks of wood and it's sick! I am so happy to have it now
John Carter was a really good movie. Definitely worth checking out
yeah I enjoyed it
Yeah, I agree. Not a 10/10, but it's better than most high-budget blockbuster stuff- MCU Avengers, or the Avatar movies.
Halicki he also has the world record for the longest continuous car chase for Gone in 60 Seconds, clocking in at 42 minutes and 40 seconds, the film's length is 1 hour 45, that fucking car chase is 2/5ths of the film's full length
lol absolutely insane
@@joeyengelman The dude was a one man wrecking and filming crew
Glad your still posting fire content 💪🏾🔥
thanks for watching, Adrian!
@@joeyengelman np bro just keep doing you and I feel like you deserve way more Recognition with your channel and shit💯 because I can tell you put a lot of effort into your videos and they are amazing 😂🙏🏽 .
Your use use of the word your isn’t, though.
I'm only 6 minutes in and I'm SHOCKED at the numbers so far. Bruh, Kubrick was on one for all those takes. Also...is that Snoop Dogg at 5:57?! Okay, back to the video.
woah i totally see it lol
54:24 interesting…I got cliffhanged by you AND the RUclips add
Really interesting iceberg
I was not expecting to see Precure Featured on this Iceberg, but I'm happy and trust me
As a fan of Precure it was such a treat to see so all the the Magical girls up until that point fighting together
1:04:08 oh i remember that season of Face Off, what an absolute nightmare of a man. can't believe he tried to shame them.
so happy and shocked to see the hugtto precure movie here! really didn't expect it. fun fact, this record may be broken soon! by pretty cure itself! the 20th anniversary is coming up very soon, and assuming they do another movie like hugtto's movie, there will be at least 74 magical warriors! and we could get anywhere from 2-8 warriors in the time it takes for the movie to release!
Pretty Cure is my favorite anime of all time and I was NOT expecting to see it here. Keep an eye open, the 20th anniversary is this year and it's very possible they'll break their own record.
Thanks for a new iceberg video Joey 🙏
You got it! Happy to share
this is one of the best movie trivia videos i have ever seen, mad props would love to see more keep it up
3:34 Gigabytes are not a measurement of processing power
(Maybe it's different in the movie production world, idk)
Great subject for a change rather than the same old ones love your script and editing Joey...kudos my friend
"17.28 gigabytes of processing power was required"
A byte isn't a unit of power?
This would also be less than fits on a single Bluray disk.
45:41
Researcher: Yeah, this is boring. Nothing's happening
Nature: Hold my entire beer keg.
This is an incredible video! Shared with my Father, he’s the one who introduced me to the love of obscure movies 🤩💕
that's so cool i hope he likes it too!
I was NOT expecting a Survivor reference out of nowhere, I love it!
I’ve got my scuba gear ready for this one!
🤿🧊
this is top notch quality!! excited for you and best of luck for that record
hey thanks Esteban!
I loved the Story Where the Wild things are when I was a little kid. To say I was disappointed in the movie would be a world record understatement.
The Barbie movie used so much pink it went scarce for a while. They used so much on set they have a record now.
Thanks for a very interesting and entertaining ice berg!
There is an obscure Japanese movie, Daredevil drivers/ Mach 78 about a competition between american and japanese stunt men. In the trailer, they claimed to have wrecked 359 cars during the filming. (Should probably be taken with a grain of salt). There is also a movie called The Nutt House Movie, which may have a longer and even more massive pie fight than the great race.
Geno Samuel is gonna swipe that record for longest documentary.
Him: *mentions precures*
Me: WOOOOOOOO, LET'S GO, BABY!!!
the precure fanbase showed the hell up in the comments
@@joeyengelman we ain't dead broski 😎😎
I was a Glitter Force kid 😭😭😭
What about Guinea Pig 2: Flowers of Flesh and Blood?
Even the FBI got involved in that case by putting the producer in prison under the assumption it was real snuff.
this might be my favorite iceberg explained video ever, and i watched dylan the white owl's 6 hour youtube iceberg. it was so interesting, and i knew pretty much none of these facts. subbed
hey I’m glad you think so, I appreciate you checking it out
55:57 Osh kosh b’gosh kids handkerchief product placement?
I had no idea that Casino held records. That's a neat fun fact, it's one of my favorite movies.
Edit due to nostalgia: Ecks Vs. Sever has a pretty great GBA game. it's a pretty solid Doom clone on par with Dark Arena.
I thought it was pretty well known for having the fucks spoken records at the time
Dude you're work is so good... and you narrate so well... just giving mad props 👏.
Henry thank you man I appreciate it!
the longest documentary is Geno Samuel's a Comprehensive History of Chris Chan
I'm at 2 minutes and you've made me chuckle twice. Oh, hell. Should I subscribe?
I vote yes but totally your call javier just hope you enjoy the vid thanks for watching!
@@joeyengelman Done. Subbed...
I thought this was going to be scary or something but it’s actually informative and kinda wholesome.
thanks edwin!
I dunno, 62 people bein burned to death of 150 horses purposely killed doesn't seem wholesome. That's not even taking into account the movie that was banned for literally torturing animals for real onscreen.
This was the most enjoyable, informative video I have watched in the past few months on RUclips.
Jason thank you that’s awesome to hear
