I recently bought a 1981 z28 Camaro and so far your build has helped me out tons, I’m barely taking the front bumper off but I have been watching your videos pretty extensively, excited to see how much power the stroker makes, depending on what it makes might drive me to shave my block too
Hey JD, another great video. I can tell you have learned a ton from doing the Jeep restoration. Thank you for the way you take things step by step and give us a clear understanding of what, how and why you are doing things the way that you are. Not only do we get the visual aspect of "how" to do these steps, but knowing the reasoning behind it is awesome. I've been a fan since the first video and have learned so much over the years following your journey. Thanks man, keep up the incredible work.
Thank you!! It's a lot of work in comparison to the Jeep but I'm enjoying it and having fun! Got a fridge full of Bud Light whenever you're ready! Haha. JD
Powder coat is much better, but as you said, you have to tread it like glass. I have lots of experience with Rustoleum paint from Home Depot. I mix it 3 to 1 with acetone and spray 3 coats. A $15 Harbor freight gun is just fine for this. On my crew cab project, the frame and axles are painted with this stuff.
Yeah I have a gap with knowledge and experience when it comes to painting with a spray gun. Probably something I need to learn about and how to do! Maybe I'll just bring my parts over to your paint booth! Haha. Take care my friend. JD
So just some food for thought, I used POR 15 on my frame. It is nice but when its not on rust, it tends to chip off. I cleaned my frame with a wire wheel and then took it to the carwash and scrubbed with some dawn dish soap and some degreaser. Then I used the other stuff they said to on the can. I followed the instructions to a T but its still chipping off and is not as strong as I thought it would be. Its very chemical resistant however, if I had to do it over again, I would use the eastwood rust converter (used that on the interior of the car. It is cheaper and seems to be holding up better) and then spray a 2k ceramic chassis paint. (Can use the can or the hvlp type) I was very disappointed with the results of the por 15 on non rusted metal. It just flaked off. I'm sure you will do your own research but just posting my findings.

Thanks Tom!! Really appreciate the feedback. JD
I went through the same decision battle. I went with Por15 and am happy. Eastwood makes a good product as well. Great video JD!
I have to say the POR 15 looks great and I am very happy with it. Hopefully it will hold up. JD
Thanks for the video!
You're welcome! JD
Great video as usual, glad to see you are enjoying the new project car!

I painted between the cab and bed with it also, but that video is not out yet. 😆

John thanks for that insight. I’ll give that some thought. JD.
I'm restoring my 77 and its so much work but so worth it
Yes Sir it’s a ton of work!! Very rewarding doing the work yourself. Good luck on your build. JD
Use chassis Black from Napa in spray can technique it is awesome and looks good, spray a good acid etching primer first
I ended up using Por 15 and had great results with it. Check it out on this video!! JD ruclips.net/video/zpxR3uawy6c/видео.html
No POR15!!! Look up Eastwoods 2 part frame paint
Hey Marvin, I'll check that out but I'm pretty sure I'm going with POR15. Any insight on why you are against POR15? Thanks for the call out. JD
I just posted the same thing. I used both eastwood (on the interior) and POR15 on the frame. So disappointed in the POR15
@@littlejohn2458 why were you disappointed w the Por 15?
Soft wash it. Don't knock anything else lose with pressure washing. No flat black. I love it but it is so high maintenance. Powder coat all the way
Hey Erin! I ended up pressure washing it and am pretty sure I'm going with POR 15!!! DIY and let's see how it goes. JD
Can you please show where the vin is on the frame. I need help finding it on mone
I believe they are stamped on the top right frame rail. JD
👍
Thank you Jose! JD
I remember when I did that. 😂😂😂😂😂
Hey Rob. It's a big step done and it's cleaning up well. No regrets pulling it out and getting her cleaned up. Thanks for checking out the video. JD
