Thank you very much for this video, for me it was very interesting to watch. I guess i will mainly stay on P3D/XP11 for at least one more year, but MSFS2020 is a great platform for the future and i'm very happy about the current state of addon development, i didnt expect to get good addons so soon after release!

I have to agree with many of the other users here, lots of your comments are founded on a lack of knowledge about the sim. I have watched and enjoyed many of your videos in the past but this is not your forte.
In addition your loves and hates in many cases cancel each other out. And as Sean Monout mentioned you really need more Ram to get better performance. I run a 1080Ti with an Intel 9700K and 32GB Ram with no popping at all.
Many of your issues were also addressed in the recent update, and again as someone else said, you have rushed this out to make some sort of point.
Missing airports.... MSFS comes with 74 handcrafted airports that are brilliant, if that was all this product included it would still be fantastic value. But there's a lot more to it than that and I believe within 12 months it will look a lot different to the original release.
Aircraft Sensitivity... have you adjusted the settings? There are far more to adjust as in fact you mentioned.
Control and Camera Setup... More options to setup than any other current sim...its complexity is a benefit not a negative.
Inaccurate AI Buildings.... There are more buildings and handcrafted cities than any other current sim. The effect of flying over any city is also better than any other sim. It includes the entire world at an unprecedented level of detail. Sure there are Inaccurate AI Buildings, what do you want for this sort of price?
Have you seen what the default world of P3D, FSX and even X-Plane, (which is better than most) looks like. There are practically no accurate AI Buildings in any of them by default.
Please stick to VatSim videos in the future, that's something you know about!

Well I would say, come on guys and chill out, isn't it OK anymore to just share some thoughts based on personal experience? Yes, I wish I could have spent more time with this sim, but due to real life flight training activities this is simply not possible. I could have indeed spent hours on the AVSIM forums reading about fixes and little mods etc., but that doesn't mean I have to... let alone can. I can simply share some opinions on how I'm experiencing the sim as it is right now, right? If in your view some things are incorrect, please share! We are all here to learn. So please point everyone here to those fixes and things that in your view are not correct in this video, that helps a lot more than just trying to force someone not to publish a video, because that's outright nuts.
I really don't see why I'm not 'allowed' to publish a video about some honest opinions, that are really just there so that the sim will hopefully be even better in the future. Just because it's a new release, and just because it's indeed an amazing sim out of the box, doesn't mean things can improve here and there. Why not voice those opinions? Sure, disagree with them, and please voice why and how so it can be added to the discussion.
And no, many of these items have not been fixed yet. Perhaps in future patches yes, that's what this video is all about! Maybe they never will, that's fine too! People who enjoy this sim in it's current state won't be bothered by it...
The RAM thing, don't worry, I have added more so it's 32 GB now :). But does that mean everyone will have 32 GB at their disposal? No...
Don't assume everyone can have 32 GB of RAM in their system or can run it with top notch specs.
Handcrafted airports are great, but the point was that many military/civilian airfields are simply missing completely due to the way the AI rendering works.
Have fun diverting to EHEH and EDDS on VATSIM, you'll be landing on a grass strip.
Aircraft sensitivity: yes, I have adjusted the settings, as said in the video, but this doesn't solve the problem. A certain small amount of physical rudder input (as checked in the external view, irregardless of your controls setup) leads to a huge output, again as said in the video.
Inaccurate buildings: yes, again, this sim is great out of the box. But why not voice this opinion? Wouldn't it be great if Blackshark AI improves in the future so that at least things like stadiums and Cathedrals look more genuine? Wouldn't it be great to have more VFR objects like power lines, proper bridges, water tanks etc. so VFR navigation becomes even better? I sure think it would...
The point I'm making is this: I'm generally a very positive minded person. If you have watched the VATSIM videos on this channel before, you will know that. I'm just voicing these opinions so that the sim will hopefully be even better. I don't care when and how, let's just see how it goes! It's not like I'm trying to bash everything. I am thoroughly enjoying this sim, and I can't wait to see what the future will holds. Until then, every opinion on the matter will help!

I think another huge plus about MSFS2020 is its accessibility to new simmers. I've been wanting to get XPlane or Prepar3d, but honestly it always intimidated me with the complexity of everything. Obviously a simulation of elaborate machines is going to be this way, but I felt like MSFS had enough handholding for me to feel comfortable diving in.
I've learned so much about aviation, and it is certainly becoming a new passion of mine. I think we'll start to see a small renaissance of flight simming with MSFS, especially once it hits the Xbox.

It was easy to take more and more on as I went and can successfully do IFR flights now (well GPS guided ones anyway) and even understand what people are talking about when they talk about specific deficiencies in the avionics in the sim (thank you google and online manuals and tutorials). I'm very excited to not only see what MS does to improve it as time goes on. I'm also almost excited enough about flying to start taking lessons.

I hear the criticism that it feels like it was rushed out the door. While this is certainly true, I don't think it's a valid criticism because I would rather have it on my computer now in its current state, than wait 6-9 months for a finished product. How about:
    - The crappy installation process.
    - The must have dvd in drive for boxed version (it's 2020).
    - Bridges are solid and even when they aren't you might be running into a wall.
    - The half arsed checklists that often just let you start the engine. Editting them is a pain as the focus option makes it complicated to do.
    - The multiplayer part that is missing communication between players or being able to hear other players vs atc.
    - The announced cooperation with vatsim which turns out to be just the same integration that all other sims have.
    - No ultra lights, gliders or choppers.
I still enjoy the sim and I know it is going to grow. But if you ain't a fanatic, you might be better of to wait before buying and get more content for less money.

The built in ATC is a special kind of ridiculous, especially when combined with autopilot/navigation bugs. Missed approach? Get about 500 instructions from ATC in a loop, only stopping after completely cycling the AP. 800nm trip in the TBM, using a preselected flight plan, only to find that it was truncated somewhere and parts were replaced with a waypoint called USER. So after that missed approach, there was no way of continueing using the AP for anything because it insisted on sending me back 200nm into the desert. Good thing I could still land VFR because live weather didn't work either.

I really don't know how they would make a realistic emulation of the changing seasons, the colours of the trees, the fields and all that. The visuals are still based on one season when the aerial photos have been taken, mainly summer and they'd have to model seasonal changes all around the world taking account different environments, forest types especially. Such a complex system that I don't believe any programmer or visual artist could mimic in a sim at least in a realistic way. And during winter you should have a very realistic emulation of snow coverage with the real time weather.

I guess it could be possible via some sort of deep learning algorithm - trained on some smaller data sets of multi-season aerial shots from a range of climates. But I doubt it would be practical or even very convincing.

The scenery needs lot more work to do, churches, cathedrals, forts, temples, stadiums, monuments, sculptures, railway stations. And more weather effects, like tornado, sandstorm, hail, fog, Tyndall effect, raging sea, and etc. Of course, season changes, fly over colorful autumn valley would be lovely.

One observation about aircraft sensitivity - #4. I discovered it does not seems to be an issue with the flight model but rather an issue with joystick calibration (in my case Logitech Force 3D PRO). I found it is off after every restart of the sim. My routine now is to start with a visit to to controls setting and my joystick sensitivity section after every fresh start of the sim and wiggle the stick in all axes to their limit positions. This procedure seems to calibrate the stick. I save the settings and proceed to my flight. After this procedure all controls seems to be reacting more gently and appropriately. Happy flying!

Thank you very much for a great detailed review on the new MSFS. After listening to your review and several others on RUclips, it really doesn’t sound great.
Comparing it with X-Plane 11 what I currently use, it sounds like MSFS has better graphics and that’s it. It just doesn’t sound like it’s setting the world alight. I would definitely buy it in the future once it has been improved and the reviews get better but for now I’ll stick with X-Plane 11 where I enjoying flying helicopters, GA and Business jets. Great vid. Thanks for that. One "hate" I would like to add: European motorways aren't illuminated (exception: Belgium), so the night is far too bright. They should've put light cones of the cars headlights or some sort of glowing on it. Adding to one of your "hates"... I think big structures like power plants, radio towers etc should have been crafted. It doesnt has to be the original one, but one out of a variety. Currently there are strange cylinders rising to the sky.
I think adding seasons isn't too much of a deal. Just lay a filter on the ground texture, depending on the weather / temperature a more muddy, more snowy or completely snowy one. Depending on the time of last snowfall you can even spare out roads (as they would've been cleared in the meantime) or let the whole countryside be sticken under a snow cover. Perhaps they can do it till winter. "They" did it in Red Dead Redemption 2 too...

I'm surprised the lack of support for a true multi-monitor setup is not in the hates. While you can drive 3 monitors they must be flat rather than angled (I use 65 deg angle of the side monitors with respect to the center monitor) or you will see terrible distortion in the side monitors. In X-Plane you can configure each monitor's field of view as well as the off-axis angle which produces realistic 'looking out the side windows' views.

In my opinion, based on some of the dislikes, this simulator was rushed to release before addressing the important items that are important in the simulator. I can live with some of the dislikes, but the important ones, such as the performance and the IFR systems in commercial airliners, for me and other simmers those are important elements. That's why I wasn't in a rush to buy FS 2020. I'll give it about another year or so before buying it.

That was a brilliant presentation. I fly for a major U.S. carrier (737-8s) and based on your pros and cons would not invest in 2020 because of your criticisms of the flight dynamics and avionics in this class of aircraft. I find X-plane's free Zibo mod add-on astonishingly realistic.
I suppose , also, I'm not that impressed with the eye candy given the bare-bones graphics in a Level-D sim. And it goes without saying that as impressive as its clouds and sunsets appear, Monet himself couldn't capture the pulse-quickening canvass nature puts before you and that is one of the best parts of the job.
I've been using the Zibo Mod with my son to introduce him to flow, CRM, briefings, etc.
I don't see anything in 2020 that comes close to approximating the workload demanded when flying more complex aircraft. Granted, there are two types of enthusiasts who invest in these
sims: those who participate as they would in a game and those who use it to advance their understanding and skills for real-world flying.
For the former, given time Microsoft should work out the bugs that would have me pulling my hair out. When they finally nail it, it should be a steal at the price.

You need to change your control sensitivities for your yoke/joystick. You need to add some dead zones and decrease the sensitivity to around -45%. It’s not the sim that is the problem. It’s your control sensitivity settings which are fully adjustable.

    • @AviationPro
      @AviationPro  4 года назад

As said in the video, unfortunately that does not solve the problem. It has nothing to do with joystick sensitivity. A very small rudder deflection (as checked in the external view) leads to a huge yawing moment, even at low speeds. This is not realistic.

The sim is beautiful, no doubt about it. However the first thing I noticed was the DA40 NG (a 155 ktas aircraft per the POH and my experience) listed and modeled as a max cruise 125 ktas aircraft (that's its cruise speed at 14,000 ft and 60% power i.e. economy cruise). Then I found it has a roll rate like an aerobatic aircraft and systems listed as InOp that in the real world would scrub the flight (all of the electronic engine control switches and the runup button). This means you really can't even do procedural training in this sim. At this point it kind of seemed more like a google earth simulator with a generic trainer aircraft model rather than an aviation sim. Maybe that's too harsh, but there's a lot lacking in the aircraft models.

May 2022. I agree with your points. I stopped playing MS 2020 simulator because of the problems I've had with my joystick; very difficult to configure and it doesn't do what I want it to while flying! I can only fly a Cessna to feel that I can control the airplane. And I bought a second joystick and a pretty good computer system. Maybe after listening to your channel I will start up again. I'm not a pilot but I certainly love aviation and want to be inside a "virtual reality" to experience being a virtual pilot.

  • @skywarrior28

I agree. Especially with the airliners. I fly a 737 in real life. If you can fly one Boeing you can figure out the others easily enough. The 787 has been extremely frustrating. The MCDU is missing a lot of crucial functions or it does not function properly. The HUD needs to be changed and it also needs the flight director on it. There are a lot of features that I enjoyed in FS2004 and FSX that are not there. I miss the Wide screen 'W' and the 'Shift-Z' function as well. It comes in handy for takeoff and landing. I would like for them to have the HUD in 'W' and the Shift-Z app. It has a lot of work to do before its considered broken in like Xplane or earlier FS versions have been. I will do GA aircraft in FS2020 for now to just fly around and enjoy scenery. But if I want to do long airliner flights, I will use Xplane 11 until they get FS2020 figured out better.

I really dig fs2020, with one detail to remark on: controller problems, more specifically, rudder sensitivity. Currently, if you use any handheld controller, the rudder is completely unusable. I feel that FS2020 was a bit rushed out of the door. The aircraft in FS2020 don't have very good flight models, especially the jets, which have bugged autopilots and some INOP systems. And don't forget the oversensitivity of the controls. X Plane 11's default 737 has more cockpit functionality than FS2020's default A320neo. However, there are a few exceptions, like the C152, which are modeled very well and the flight model is better than X Plane. And, next, there is no replay mode, like seriously? The scenery is simply awesome, but the road vehicles sometimes behave very weirdly lol. This is a well-done video speaking about both the negatives and the positives of FS2020. Let's give FS2020 some time to fix these bugs. Once it matures, I have the feeling that it can be a true simulator.

I must admit I haven't had any problems with the performance and on a very modest machine too. With a Ryzen 5 3600x, GTX 1660super and 32gb ram I'm running mostly high settings with some super with no perceptible frame stutter. Overall I've been very happy with that....
The sensitivity though, woof. I've crashed numerous times while landing airliners because of the weird flight model, where the tiniest input and some wind results in a 45-degree bank faster than I can counteract it or when I try to flare slightly, the aircraft pitches up violently and I end up floating halfway down the runway, despite being well below the ref speed. The autopilot is also atrocious. I've found that the autogen airports have few or no guidance signs, making it impossible to navigate on the ground without charts or ribbons to help. It's definitely disappointing. I hope they can sort these issues out sooner rather than later.

It’s still a great sim to do some VFR and we are definitely spoiled to have MSFS 2020 and X-Plane 11. I still love X-Plane. VR in X-Plane with the realistic modeled physics is still second to none. MSFS for fun and sight seeing and X-Plane 11 for realism and VR.

Thanx for your comment ....All videos I have seen, have shown popup tags when hovering the mousepointer over flightinstruments....is there no way you can switch this off?

Can you make a video using FS Playground replay app? Thx.

Some great points you discuss here. My big thing is the lack of a detailed map. You would think that with Bing maps setting the scenery that we would have a better in SIM map with detailed airport information. I think FSX had a better map than FS2020.

@@AviationPro I would think they could link it to the web and get access to approach plates as well.

The first thing I hate: This video starts with a 3rd party PAID guide that explains how to use the program and how to change settings fpr best performance. Because there is no manual included with this program.
Hate is a big word, yes. And accurate.

Will you be making a full switch to MSFS soon?
I’m thinking about upgrading to v5 but would prefer to save my money if the future is with MSFS. I personally think P3d will never come close to the level of realism that can be reached with MSFS. Graphics and clouds alone blow P3d away for me. Just wanna know your thought :)

The performance is not an issue, and it's way better than other sims with the same amount of visual fidelity. Keep in mind that at low settings it still looks better than X-plane at high settings. And has higher fps at those settings.
The bar just went up, so it looks better and the result is it requires better hardware.

I showed my non Simmer buddy the FS2020 vs XP11 screenshots and his first comments were that XP11 graphics looks like Kerbal Space Program... I actually had to agree with him. The planes look great, but the world looks like utter crap.

Which version of X-PLANE are you comparing it to? In X-Plane 11.50, I get 25-40 FPS higher in the C172 G1000 at maximum settings than I do in MSFS at medium settings. The only difference is eye candy, and I get the “steam gauge” C172 for free in x-plane. I have to buy the delux version of MSFS to get it there.

I'm a DCS pilot ( and many hours in a "real" 172) I haven't dipped into MSFS 2020 yet but wondered if you can set up response curves to make axis commands more realistic?

    • @AviationPro
      @AviationPro  4 года назад

Yes, but it won't make it more realistic necessarily. The general sensitivity is just too much at the moment.

i have to agree with the live weather. i have been storm chasing and never seem to find full storms with lightning there are maps that show real clouds and give real time lightning strikes using radar. would be nice to have this added also into the live weather for realistic storms and live lightning. the only way i can see lightning in the sim is by changing the presets but then its not live. just wondering if anyone has come across a storm and lightning with the live weather. and yes even in europe we have a delay also with the live weather.
    great video.

this is such a fantastic list. regarding the missing airports, my local airport is one of them. it seems like a minor point but it’s really immersion breaking.

I had a shock when I took an FSEconomy job and couldn't find the airport via search, so I grabbed the GPS location off Google Maps, and sure enough, it was one of the "Tree'd Out" ones, Stuttgart iirc. I used Slew mode to place myself on a section where the runway should be, without trees in the way and checked that FSEconomy recognised my position as being at the correct airport. Took off and completed the flight without any further issues.
      Silly though.

Just got this sim as a present and the first thing I found was it would not run on my old PC so that involved an expensive replacement. This came with no disc drive as most gaming machines do nowadays but the damn thing would not run until I had inserted the "game disc" so I then had to buy an external disc drive. Then you have to install individual aircraft which is an additional time consuming pain but when I eventually did get everything and running what joy, NO!
One of the things I loved about the old Microsoft Flight sim was being able to take of and land at even quite small airports and recognise local features. Went to Edinburgh (EPGH) and it could have been anywhere in the world with no recognisable features. The old (2004) version had an accurate representation of the two forth bridges and local features like Murryfield stadium and the castle so this was a huge disappointment.
Let's hope their are lots of upgrades in the pipeline as this is far from perfect or even good.

MSFS took out Schoonover Airport (Tusi Heliport as well) at Fort Hunter Liggett and CA74 Skydive California Airport. They were in the beta. Schoonover was mislabeled as King City Airport though... weird.

This video has been so positive for me. If you're complaining at this level then I know that, for €60, FS2020 is well worth the money.
