I've looked at getting another coffee machine over the years but can't justify it as my V1 Silvia simply won't die. It's used daily, extracting multiple shots of coffee that are better than most cafes who will charge $4+ and just as consistent. The level of community support for this machine is phenomenal and another of the deciding factors when I was researching what to choose 17 years ago making the small amount of maintenance required very simple with detailed how-tos easily accessible. All that is nothing without a reliable supplier for parts, so thanks to Coffeeparts also for being that one stop contact.
If one day the V1 parts dry up, the no brainer choice for me is the next newest Silvia.

First home machine for me was a second hand V3 Silvy - put on my own PID and it served me so well for years!!! Had this guy paired with a Mazzer Mini-E, and it was bomb proof!

Great combo, the PID would of been nice to reduce temperature surfing :) The Mazzer Mini-E is an all time classic!

Solid overview. First home machine for me was the Swiss-made Solis Crema SL70 - what a tank - I had her for 11 years. Solis no longer makes espresso machines, but that unit was really exceptional. Second was the Gaggia Classic - again - another rock solid, highly reliable machine. However, that panarello wand always kind of annoyed me. I just got this Rancilio Silvia and I'm pretty excited. Overall, have had good luck with dependability and quality. Greetings from Canada.

Any tips moving from the Gaggia Classic to a Silvia?

@@simona4693 It was a pretty seamless transition. My Gaggia Classic was packed up and shipped to a sibling across country, where it now resides on her kitchen counter still making several lattes per day. My Rancilio Silvia is a great machine which I've had for over 2 years now. Both being single boiler machines, the difference is in the steaming. The panarello wand on the older Gaggia's basically does the steaming on it's own. Steaming on the Rancilio requires both education and skill, as it's a task for the home barista to master. Easily done. I now have my sights set on upgrading in the near future to an HX machine, very likely an ECM. Rgds from Canada.

@@slukas1375 Thanks, good to know. I'm moving from Gaggia which i've used (across three machines) over 20 years, to a Silvia tomorrow all going well. Seamless transition sounds great. :)

Hi! Nice review but im still undecided to what to get, is it better to the Breville dual boiler? In teems of longevity and espresso quality?

I don't understand. I usually see this coffee maker equipped with a better tamper, that has a wooden handle, with the rest of it made of metal. Maybe it's based on location?

Thanks for subbing! And you are spot on, in future videos we will be running espresso's etc. Looking at the videos now it's obvious, we should have done this. Learning curves :)

What kind of tamper would you recommend? I own the v6 model as showed in the video, with the standard tamper, but I've read review of s 58.4 mm tamper from i.e. Rhino or Mota. Can you recommend such a tamper?

    • @CoffeePartsTV
      @CoffeePartsTV  3 года назад

Really depends on your price point. 58.3 / 58.4 are our recommended sizes, however, the tamper radius also makes a difference. The sharper the radius the technically larger tamp size, however the shaper the radius the easier they damage. So it's a trade-off.
In saying that, I do like the Pesado tampers for this machine or at a high price-point the Pullman Bigstep... These both happen to be Australian brands, so depending on where you are located may be harder to get locally. www.coffeeparts.com.au/accessories/tampers
      Hope this helps.

I have a Silvia V5 and am somewhat frustrated by the high group head pressure out of the box. While there are videos on adjusting the OPV online, every distributor tells me not to monkey with it as I may be asking for problems. Any thoughts? I do measure out 19 grams on the finest setting on the Rocky.

    • @CoffeePartsTV

In many ways I feel the Silvia is a machine that lends itself to being modified. And in modifying a machine you do learn a lot of about the variables in coffee.
Also, understand Rancilio distributors (including us) saying not to touch them as this leads to warranty issues... So no real answer here, but we always prefer when customers are honest with us and say what they have modified as it makes assessing machines so much faster and easier.

Is it some kind of cover on tamper?
