- A friend and former co-worker gave me this old upright piano, and delivered me on his utility trailer. He owns a woodworking and cabinet shop and someone gave him the piano to use the ornate wood parts, and he decided it sounded too good to ruin. So, he asked me if I wanted it. So, another fun old

What a legend. You have been playing piano on youtube for 9 years and you hadn't though of quitting. You deserve more appreciation.

This man is a National Treasure. He has the best demeanor of anybody I have ever listened too. Bet he is the most honest man on this friggin planet to boot!!!
Not to mention he is one great Boogie Woogie player, the Boogie he plays on this piano is the same one he did in his 2nd vid, but it sounds a lot different, that is way hard to do. The separation one must have to do it is phenonimal!!
@David P if you have listened to each, they are way different, but they are recognisable as being the basic same tune. I have tried to do it myself, but it is difficult for me to change it as much as he does, without destroying what makes it the same, just sayin it is hard to do, at least for me.

The piano held it's tuning quite well, in tune with itself completely though maybe a half step low, sounds awesome!

FYI,
The first tune that you played was "Ashokan Farewell" written by fiddler Jay Ungar of NY and was written about 1980 for the Ken Burns PBS series: "Civil War". It is a recent song with an old Civil War feeling!! It is titled after the Ashokan Valley in upstate New York which now has filled with water and so is now a beautiful lake!!
For anybody who's interested, there are lyrics that go with the music.
The instrumental fiddle part is the opening to the individual programs of the "Civil War" series.

It really has a character all it's own, like you said it has the saloon sound. I use an app to tune my piano, it's not perfect but it helps. That piano sounds good though, glad your friend gave you it

MusicHunter, inspite of the the thing, that C sounds as B here, the sound is very pleasant and nice, it is a little bit loose, but obertonic and full of energy. Bass strings need to be cleaned, repaired or changed. But the playing is perfect.
I like the sound of old piano. Old pianos are what we used when I went to school more than 2 decades ago.

Well, this piano sounds like a CATHEDRAL ! There is so much richness in the sound of every key that you could spend hours just slowly tasting them ! The boogie on it is an absolute treat !

This ole girl piano's sound is really authentic - a real humdinger of a honky-tonk swinger. I listened to this video and then immediately listened to your video "Old Saloon piano in tune..., from Jul 29, 2019" but found she didn't have that same rough sweet sound. I don't know if the microphone configuration was different, the dust was adding a nice effect, or the tuning made the difference, but she did not sing to me the same way. I am writing this before hearing any other videos you recorded on Bessy - and it has been about 18 months since these recordings, so I apologize if this is old news.

You should have an old Upright like this, restored to some extent and retuned... And keep it in your house.

Rick, sir, you made me cry. Part 2 (_You Are My Sunshine_) reminded me of my ex-wife, whom I still love, and my late dad whose death I've still not gotten over. It also all reminded me of the country we had and were building, and which we're on the brink of losing.
If you'd release an album of these songs, I tell you what, I'd happily pay $20.

Hey Rick! My grandmother has a Ludwig upright grand at her house and it sounds amazing! Every time I play it, I just have to play “She’ll Be Coming ‘Round the Mountain” just like you did in the one video with like 4 million views.
