It's one of the most recognizable and beloved cars in cinematic history and this year, it turns 55 years old. However, it's the 30th Anniversary of Ghostbusters this summer that has shined the Slimelight back onto the original Ecto-1.
Beyond the Marquee was recently given an opportunity to check out the Ecto-1 at Sony Pictures Studios and we brought along a special guest who hadn't seen the car in a long time. It’s a reunion 30 years in the making as Beyond the Marquee interviews the designer of the original Ectomobile, Stephen Dane! Развлечения
This old guy has a lot of energy and enthusiasm! :)
Great interview!
RIP Stephen Dane. What a wonderful man and artist
Beyond The Marquee ain't afraid of no ghosts.
Please, PLEASE release the unedited video of this interview. As far as I know, this is the only interview with Dane explaining his prop creations, and I’d give anything hear him explain and elaborate about them greater detail. This man was an absolute legend.
I have that drawing of his with the partial front and back views etc. on my wall. Great to see he held on to them. Must be worth thousands!!
R.I.P. Stephen Dane. What a legend!
Stephen did amazing things
What a sweet, sweet man... His designs have been and always be, a huge part of my childhood and adult life. Very near and dear to my heart. I agree with Mr. Dane... Ghostbusters is a permanent and fantastic part of the American lexicon... That car will end up in the Smithsonian some day. Thank you Mr. Dane, for all the great memories! May you RIP, sir.
I miss Stephen a lot..
Who disliked this, Walter Peck?!
+sirstrongbad Walter Peck, the Hardemeyer (mayor's assistant GBII) and George Barris (he always said he made the car)
It's true, this man has no dick.
Simply awesome! I love this video!
Fantastic Interview Jon! Love that comparison to Match.com, lol. Keep up the great & fun work...love to watch you in action since our Universal days!
How did you not know the 1A was from the second movie? All the fans know that
Thank you sir for that beautiful car. RIP
God, we need to see those ghost trap and proton pack evolutions
It's good to know that they still kept the original Ecto-1 in good condition ever since it was refurbished in the late 2000s.
I hope you're being sarcastic.. the car is rusting again, look at the rear bumper. the Ultimate history book even shows the car has rust issues forming again. under the rear door,
Stephen Dane was a legend! See ya on the other side good sir!
the Smithsonian can have the car...I'm hot for those elegant design drawings.very original and genius-serious.
Those drawings would be worth a fortune now.
Great interview

+tom belcher who passed?
The guy he interviewed who did the logos, proton packs, traps and Ecto one
Steve Dane and George Barris r.i.p movie car legends
This guy is in for a treat, Ghostbusters 3 is almost confirmed, and Blade Runner 2 will be happening soon
Daniel Rieger this comment didn’t age well.
I love the lack of attention people give to this shit, esp. when people who take it seriously are the only ones who would appreciate an interview like this.
And could we please stop harassing old guys that worked on movies 30 + years ago? They don't remember this stuff, it was a job to them, and the proof is the fact that this old hippie is talking about the final sketch for the car in the first GB and is clearly looking at the drawings for the car from the second GB.
This is just great. Right up there with Mel Blanc claiming he invented 'What's up, Doc?'
He says as he's showing it "this is the Mark 2, we didn't have time to build this" so I'm thinking that by GB2 they looked at doing the stuff they didn't have time to do for the first movie, and then built up from that?. since the copyright on the drawing is 1983, not that you can't just write whatever you want down.
