If you haven't seen their collaboration with The Philharmonic during The Sing Off, its fantastic ... Rob's inner animal comes out in hysterical fashion.
I love Home Free and first learned about them from The Sing Off. Life Is A Highway could be considered country but also rock. Too me, its not the older country nor the older rock so i put it in, what some people call, country rock. Most current country artists sing country rock. The days of Loretta Lynn and Tammy Wynette are gone, but George Strait is still considered good country. Maybe give him a listen sometime. He's had over 50 #1 songs and is called The King of Country. Thanks for all your great (and fun) reactions. You guys are awesome!
Life Is a Highway was originally by Tom Cochrane, rock and roll from back in the day. Sorry, Ninja. Jeremy was right on this. Most people only know the country version (Rascal Flatts) because of the Cars movie. Thanks for doing these. What a ride! By the way, from my understanding, Chris was the music director of HF and did a lot of the behind the scenes stuff along with singing with them. Some Fries may correct me, but that was my understanding. But he does a lot of solo stuff and sings with some other groups herenow if you ever want to get more from him.
Such a good rendition and yes, Tim hits an F# I believe…goodness. When he sings live in concert his voice goes through you. Hard not to mention him. The judges love Austin. They’re all amazing but not of all them were recognized in the show…sadly. There were groups even larger than Home Free and lots of them weren’t recognized either…although in TV it’s hard to do. They only have a couple of minutes to talk. 🥰😄
Thank you both! The reason it took me forever to become 🏠 🍟 because Chris and Adam my favorite tenors weren’t highlighted on the sing off. Chris, Adam and their sister Tristan are favorite singers on the planet! I have a Rupp siblings’ playlist. I love their vocals!
Life Is a Highway was originally performed by Tom Cochrane and was a rock song. I think I forgot to mention on the first video that they did not have all of these songs already in their repertoire. The guys believe that their experience in arranging was a definite advantage in the competition. All of the guys arrange along with their producer, Darren Rust, and others. (If you watch HF’s Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer, Darren is one of the participants, along with at least two others you should know.)
Life Is A Highway was a rock at the beginning, Tom Cochrane did it. Rascal Flatts covered it when the Disney movie Cars came out. So it's had it both ways
It is a rock song!! I have never heard it by rascal flatts, I only knew they covered it because of watching reactions. I loved it when it first came out, though. Thanks for a great reaction!
I love all their renditions of this (the Sing Off & an earlier video). Of course the singing & harmonies are terrific and Adam's beatboxing is always fantastic. The original song was by Tom Cochrane (a fellow Canadian), it was later covered by Rascal Flatts. I still think Adam & Austin were dogging it - Adam has great rhythm & Austin's degree is in Music Theatre (I don't imagine such a course doesn't include dancing).
I don't know if you realized but this was the same season that Voiceplay. At the time Geoff Castellucci wasn't even singing that low. This was one of my favorites because of how everyone came in one at a time. I really enjoyed watching your reactions to this song.
Always fun watching the Sing Off. I am most familiar with Tom Cochrane's version of this song than Rascal Flatts. The guys did a great cover of this song. They later released a studio version of this when Chance was with them. The video shows them touring & the behind the scenes at shows. And now they have just released a 3rd version of this song.
Loving Home Fryday and your journey to The Sing Off to see their (tv) beginnings. As a Canadian Home Fry, I know the Tom Cochrane original version. You were both right, as Rascal Flatts (and others) later covered it, but IMHO Home Free's latest (10th anniversary edition) is an absolute upgrade to their previous ones - it's a MUST, so add it to your list. #HomeFree never disappoints!
So glad your doing the sing off performances! It’s a great way to get to know the guys! And I’m sure you have heard by now that their newest album was just released and irs songs that they sang on the sing off! And they have already released individual songs with videos to some of them. Also, I’m. It sure where you got your links to the sing off songs but there is one that is usually left off the list. It’s “Stand by me” and in that performance they sing with the judges! Don’t forget that one too! Just FYI my favorite performance is “I’m alright”. You’ll be rolling!! Also this isn’t a song but there is a series of videos where they tell about the history of home free. It includes even the member of when it first started. it’s really interesting and funny! It really gives you a chance to get to know them and their history and have some laughs as well. Tim is a natural comedian, he narrates most of it (as he does at the live concerts) and I guarantee anytime he is talking your gonna be laughing! Of and did I say “live concert”??? I am going to my second Home Free Concert and the count down Is on! I go dec 21!! Can’t wait. I purchased vip tickets through their patreon which is a great price for what you get! Third row seats! Boom!
Some Chris-centric songs are Little Bit of Everything (Keith Urban) (audio only, Chris left the group before they could make a video) and Moving On (original by Chris). Moving On is his going away song with the group.
Y’all are both right. Just depends on who is singing the song 🎵. Love both y’all. I love y’all’s little jibs at each other. It makes my day Thank y’all so much. #HOMEFREE. ❤
Tom Conchrane's is the one that I always heard in my teens, (released in 91) Rascal Flatts covered it for the movie Cars. I like their studio version because the show seemed to rush them like crazy.
I grew up with the Tom Cochrane version of this song, so to me, it will always be a rock song (I've actually never heard the Rascal Flatts version). Either way, they killed it!
This series is so aw some.. this was the beginning of my addiction to HF.. Make sure you listen to Home Free and the Filharmonic (another acapella group) do the song I"'m Alright".. from the movie Caddyshack. Rob sings the lead. on "Colder Weather". Btw.. Peter Hollens got his start on The Sing Off too.. he was the lead singer with the group from the University of Oregon.. On The Rocks.. They sang "Kyrie.". great season.. great show.. I miss it! . . Thanks for all you do.. Love you both.
Don't get me wrong, I adore Tim and Austin and they deserve every accolade they receive, but-- on the Sing Off (as it is still a lot of times) it was those two almost exclusively. Adam got the occasional mention but Chris (and now Chance) and Rob may as well be absent. They got no love from the judges. 3:03
You really aren't going to see Rob or Chris highlighted much in the show. Because it is a competition format and the groups are going for the "wow" factor with each performance, the highs and lows (esp tim since he was so much lower than the competition) are put forward with the middle voices primarily providing support.
As for Rob, as you'll see he, does get a little attention, a little. But, sadly, they never once said anything about Chris. Nothing.😢 The producers kept the focus on Austin & Tim. Which really sux because they ALL deserved way more & better praise. ❤❤
Yeah, my understanding was that there was even some conflict with the producers over Rob because Home Free featured him starting a later song (I'm blanking on the title) and the producers weren't having it. They saw Austin as the star and wanted him to sing the lead throughout. They even tried to pressure them into dropping Rob's solo saying they might not advance if it wasn't Austin. The producers were looking for "star potential" whatever that is and what they thought would be marketable. Home Free stood their ground in that fight, however. (I remember now. The song they fought over was Colder Weather.)
@@momD612 yeah, I think the judges tried to play it off as if Austin had been too scared to reach for the lead or some shit, and later that Austin had gotten better because of their advice.
Yep, the Fries have schooled me on the situation. Sounds really CRAPPY and I hate that they had to deal with those politics. So happy they are doing what THEY want to do now!

Absolutely
It is on the new album wait till the video comes out to compare
Thanks for doing these. Their new album, As Seen on TV, does the Sing Off songs done by their today’s voices.
It was a rock song covered by a country band for the movie cars. Many people are not aware of the original.

Yet Tim can sing in the 5th - maybe 6th - octave! He's really amazing! Geoff from Voice Play says he is magnificent! 💖 And such a nice guy. 😊
It’s really cute watching them react to the judges compliments. I swear Tim blushed. So cute.

Happy Anniversary Double J hope you had time to enjoy yourselves. Thanks for all the Home Frydays.
Lovely reaction, so glad yall are checking out the sing off, complete with back stories and judge comments!
We listen to our Fries!!! Everyone said we HAD to hear the judges commentary! ;-)

They met their choreographer, Kristen Dennehy on the Sing Off. She still choreos their concert moves and some videos like Blue Aint Your Color.
Definitely great fun to watch these performances! Thanks so much for doing these reactions ❤. The two of you together is especially fun.
That's so sweet, thank you Steven!! ❤,🥷🏻

Thanks , Sally!! Will do on the Filharminc song. We love you, too!! ❤️,🥷
The producers wanted to highlight just Austin and Tim. The guys had to fight/demand for Rob to do a solo in Warmest Winter.
Colder Weather
Thank you @donnaflynn9615 for the song name correction

Rascal Flats is 100% country Jeremy....lol

This is considered a rockabilly song.

@higglety230 yep. And that was the ONLY criticism the judges said to the guys & it was complete B.S. 😠
@@momD612 yeah, I think the judges tried to play it off as if Austin had been too scared to reach for the lead or some shit, and later that Austin had gotten better because of their advice.
There's a bit of controversy on the Rob lead on a song. The producers only wanted Austin to lead but the group insisted on Rob.
Yep, the Fries have schooled me on the situation. Sounds really CRAPPY and I hate that they had to deal with those politics. So happy they are doing what THEY want to do now!
Jeremy you don't like country because you know nothing about it 😂 Rascal Flats, Life is a Highway is country 😊
Amen, Scott!!! You tell him! ❤️,🥷🏻
They ( The show ) wanted Austin to lead and they only had 2 !/2 minutes so each song sounds to fast at least to me.
I definitely do not like those politics! And we agree, songs were so fast!
Sorry, Rascal Flatts I'd a country group. 🤷♀️ always have been.
Amen!! ❤️,🥷
