In this interview, Kirk describes the civil rights legacy, close community ties, and the historical significance of Rogers Washington Holy Cross, an East Austin neighborhood built by and for black professionals after World War Two.

    This interview was conducted as part of What Once Was’ efforts to preserve the oral histories of Roger Washington Holy Cross, an East Austin neighborhood that was founded by Black professionals after World War II. Many of the neighborhood’s residents centered their lives around community and education.
