As someone who has hundreds of hours in CK2, I must say its actually really interesting to hear someone's comments on CK3 who is a complete newby to the series. Thanks for your review.
Ikr, games like CK3 and Wastelands 3 in their modern UI design philosophy aimed towards new audiences have done an amazing job without devolving much of the complexity, hopefully these more obscure genres can get a growth in player numbers and provide incentive for more of such games to be made! :D
@@2fun55 It's much more intuitive, interface seems more user friendly, tutorial is much better than the one in CK2, it's essentially updating CK2 and perfecting everything in that game, ironing out the bugs, making it a bit more noob friendly. The stress system is a new feature, previously in CK2 only certain actions would make a character gain the "stressed" trait instead. You can now form cadet branches of dynasties, there's also a new resource system of "renown" to take certain actions within your own dynasty. There's multiple other new or altered features from CK2, I'd recommend checking a review from somebody who has played CK2 before they will probably go into more detail on the differences between CK2 and CK3.

Jumping for joy when a great developer gives an early game key to a great, honest reviewer and everything is good and hunky dory! Gives me hope, not everyone is a dick! Great work Mack and great work Paradox! You both have my fealty!
@@Plague_Doc22 Yes, well, sadly like all industries, they change and evolve. The era of unlocking content through secrets and gameplay was amazing but it isn't really there anymore. And this isnt only due to companies being over-greedy and nefarious (although that certainly happens with shit games, releasing before game is ready and of course the awful micro-transactions). Technology has changed and so you can add more to a game now in the form of DLCs. I agree that DLCs comprising of skins, emotes and maybe a tiny level or two, or even games purposefully split up into DLCs for financial reasons is really garbage-people behaviour. BUT, and it is a big but, some developers add truly great DLCs with heaps of extra content, because they know fans want to play more but they also know they have a lot more to offer. Support of the game, extra content, new stories and/or factions, creating these things take a lot of time and work and I think it's fair that we, as consumers, pay for it. In the end, contributing financially to a developer for really good content is the only way to ensure that developers give us great content. And isnt that what we all complain about on this channel? That too many companies give us terrible content at inflated prices? It would have been easy for Paradox to have cashed in on the success of CK II and cut corners, save money and focus on increasing revenue only for this game, but they didnt do that. And a good relationship is a two-way street, we must play our part. If we appreciate and want the extra content of good DLCs, we should pay for it. Obviously the price and value of said DLCs are subjective, so I can't speak to what you think is fair. All i try to think about are the thousands of man hours and overheads the company has to pay in order to continue making quality content. Hope you have a nice day!
@@coreymilstein7407 Well I think once the DLC goes beyond 100$ it's kind of insane. They know suckers will pay it and have paid it. So I'd bet cash that they'd do it again, it's just too profitable same with how the sims does it. They'll even exclude features that was in the expansion for the new version and then add a new expansion that does that very thing.
I played as a count in tribal Moravia in 779, I became a leader of leaders, a hero of heroes. The petty king of Moravia recognized my talent and appointed me a marshal. In the following years the petty kingdom of Moravia conquered all the lands from Bohemia to Siberia, from Wlachia to the northern sea. The king was so fond of me he gave me more land and made me a duke. But then my guy died at the age of 76 and the tribal dynasty council voted for who would be a proper successor, they could choose my son who was an unparalleled genius in stewardship and ruling, they could choose the proven military commander or even any of my more average sons. Instead they chose my bastard imbecile grandson who was still a child at the time and his childhood focus was heritage and learning. There were even plots against him already. You can probably guess how that worked out.
I think it was good that you as a person who has never played CK2 did a review on this. For me who has played paradox games for years and have thousands of hours in them it usually isn't difficult to get into their new titles, but something they have lacked a lot is tutorials and showing the ropes without having to watch hours of tutorial videos, so the fact that you got into the game quite fast and could understand it and have fun is a huge thing for a Paradox game. Great review!
Kinda a weird criticm, as a game which is uncomplicated and aimed at everyone will probably end up like that new Marvel game. Complicated this way just means more options and layers which i would consider anything but bad. Though "I made my son marry a 3 year old" is there too so not sure how serious that last part actually is haha, guess the score is what matters.
@@drago1943 It's not that Ck3 is difficult, it's just a learning curve to get used to the UI and how the game works. It's like saying you don't like football because it's complicated, when you have just never played it and just never have get to know the rules.
My greatest CKII lets play happened as a Basileus that was overthrown by his Dukes and ruthlessly murdered. I took over as his young 8 year old son, with a 15 year old sister who was far more talented than myself. The new Basileus let us live, but he made the mistake of not erasing our lineage from the line of succession in the Byzantine Empire. My sister went on to lead a revolt, instituting herself as the Empress of the Byzantine empire, and this is where things get extremely interesting. She refused to marry, made me her direct successor and went on to eliminate each and every Duke involved in the original revolt, replacing them with more common courtiers who's loyalty was unquestionable. When she died I rose to the throne at 45 and had the entire world at my feet. I went on to create a dynasty which spanned all the way north to the lands of the Rus, removing all traces of pagan idolatry. I also ventured west and took Lotharingia, essentially splitting Europe between me and Charlemagne. All good things must come to an end, and a Mongol Doomstack ended up leaving my 4th heir with only Greece and Western Anatolia. But to this day I tell this story to people who are interested in Crusader Kings in general. That's just one of many amazing stories, don't even get me started on how I rose up as a lowly ex slave to conquer all of the MIddle East under a Sunni Heretical sect.

You are the best Mack, the best of them all. And after some hesitation and finally watching your review, purchased the game. Right now Im only 10 hours into this game. I now have the utmost respect for Paradox what a fucking good game this is. I am speechless of how much this game has given me so far. I appreciate all and each one of your reviews, you are HONEST, and knowledgeable you know what to demand on a game. I maintain it: Mack you are the best videogame reviewer in the Internet, and my favorite as well. Thank you for even existing.
I'm glad you mentioned Game Pass recently in your Wastelands 3 review Mack. The fact that both this and Wastelands 3 were on Game Pass for PC at launch and the subscription is £3.99 a month is pretty nuts. I've played so many good games because of Game Pass, it's the best deal in gaming at the moment imo.
I finally bought this and I’m in love with it. I knew I would like a game in this style since attempting Victoria games and Crusader Kings 2, but those didn’t hook me. This one did, wow. It’s been a long time since I found a game that can absorb me for hours on end and keep me up at night. What a game.
Thank you so much for making this video. I have played a lot of ck2 and eu4, but was a bit on the fence since I don't pre-order or buy on launch. This cemented my decision to get the game.
I've played CK2 half to death, and you've told me enough to now know that they didn't go to a sequel for a cash grab. It sounds like there's real, genuine evolution of the systems that required a new base game. So good job, Mack. :)
I always end up buying these kind of titles on sale, putting between 20-150 hours into them and then completely forgetting about them for years lol. The depth of these games is on another level compared to basically anything else on the market, if you're a deep thinker/planner you'll be amazed by the options presented to you which you can use to become a huge empire.
I loved CK2 and CK3 is looking very good, can't wait for its release. What I love about these games is that they don't limit themselves to be map painters like the rest of paradox games but they let you build these amazing stories. Hell one of my most interesting games was as an heretic family in france, befriending the king of france and converting his family to my heresy. In that playthroughnever got a higher rank than a count but my actions really influenced how everything unfolded in europe. CK games are the best Paradox games.
I'd buy it if it wasn't a paradox game and we wouldn't have to expect DLC for many hundreds of dollars. I might buy it in 5 years when they stop developing it and offer a complete edition.
Anybody new to CK: don’t get frustrated, you’ll understand the mechanics and the game so much more after 30-40 hours. It’s certainly a difficult game to try and get into, with the overwhelming amount of information and tabs. There are loads of helpful tutorial guides and tips for beginners on RUclips. CK3 is far more accessible than CK2!! I’d urge anyone to at least try it out if you like role playing and history in general.
it's a paradox interactive game. there are two things that all paradox games have in common. latest from the mid-game, unpredictable obstacles are thrown in making the game too hard to play for casual gamers. you have to begin over and over until you find out how to trick the game logic. plus: paradox's DLC politics is an utter cashgrab! with every release comes at least 10 purchasable expansions (some of them are quite relevant to the basic-game). this leads to the fact that the basic game will soon cost less than the shitload of DLC's. my advice: wait until the basic game plus important expansions come in a bundled offer
Thanks Mack ! I am gonna pick this up and give it a whirl! Cheers mate for your positive reviews on this!!! I have 4 days left before I start a new job , might as well make the most of these 4 days!!!!
I did CK 2 runs for last 2-3 months to learn the ropes of this. I only played Europa Univeraslis before. I deffo gonna get it now, needed some validation by trusted reviewer.
"I was so triggered that I spent two years trying to murder everyone he even knew." 😂 I genuinely got a belly laugh. Ancient video, I know, sorry, but that one got me. Love ya Mack.
Keyzer Mac: How you doing Mormaer? Mormaer Murethatch of Strathearn: I can't feel my legs... Keyser. Keyzer Mac: Ready? Mormaer: What time is it? Keyzer Mac: 12:30 Mormaer: *closes the eyes* Keyzer Mac: *chops head off* He waits until his kingdom is in turmoil, a perfect distraction, and he goes after the rest of the bastards. He kills their kids, he kills their wives, he kills their parents and their parents' friends. He burns down the houses they live in and the stores they work in, he kills people that owe them money... And like that he was gone. Underground... Nobody has ever seen him since. He becomes a myth, a spook story that lords tell their kids at night. "Trigger your pop, and Keyser Mac will get you." And no-one ever really believes.
I agree, Paradox has always sort of leaned towards the greedy side. Especially now with the normal edition for half price and the super duper deluxe edition for mucho moneys. Not to mention the radio and skin dlcs for hoi4

When you get kicked off the King title and become Duchy, you can click ESC for menu and "choose character", pick the King that took you over and play as him.
Had a baby that looked like Chucky? Mice. I've been priming myself up for a good Halloween scare around this time. Cool review. I'm betting there is so much more than can be put into this review but no way there is enough time. WOW!
CK2 is my most played game. I just love the character aspect of the game and how anything can happen like in one game I was playing in Scandinavia and my sister got turned into a bear. I also like how there is no hand holding, you make your own decision on what you want to do. Plus the mods! But currently I can't buy the game on Steam due to being in Australia.
I've been playing CK2 for over 8 years (released in 2012) with 2000 hours into it and I'm considered a novice by most... Crusader Kings 3 will be a game you always come back to play because Paradox keeps updating and releasing expansions for it, just like with CK2... And if you're into grand strategy, the game is just that good to be a must have.
@Sincerely Inept I bought the royal edition for $60 on g2a. I know its still technically supporting paradox but at least I gave someone else the money and not them directoy

You ruined this for me, Mack.
How can you not raid Northumbria? One of the raiders could be Mack's ancestor.
StrappingOldLad the bell of justice will ring over the infidels!
@10:06 Bells must be rung before sex... And I was wondering why you keep ringing bells during your reviews...
Negative aspect: "I have to review Marvel Avengers next"
Mack is awesome
Literally was waiting on your review of this and Wasteland 3. Good stuff.
Same, was quite glad they both god good reviews. I have had a blast with Wasteland 3 so far myself.
@@TealMjM do i need to play wasteland 2 or is it not a sequel (continuation from a story i mean)
@@cannedpiss5178 I have never played any other Wasteland and have been having a blast. The game does a good job of explaining prior lore, so I don't think it's necessary.
As a long time fan of Ck2 and the channel I have been waiting for this and was not disappointed!
Id love to be a fly in your room when you play a game like this
I finally bought this and I’m in love with it. I knew I would like a game in this style since attempting Victoria games and Crusader Kings 2, but those didn’t hook me. This one did, wow. It’s been a long time since I found a game that can absorb me for hours on end and keep me up at night. What a game.
"The Norway People", formerly knows as Vikings :)
I love playing (failing) CK2 can’t wait to get my hands on this.
Its on xbox gamepass, £4.99 a month and only £1 for the first month, so if you want to try it for cheap...
One of my fav reviewers man, keep it up! Can't wait for this release 😁
2000 euro’s of total DLC: Being near you somewhere 2030
Thank you so much for making this video. I have played a lot of ck2 and eu4, but was a bit on the fence since I don't pre-order or buy on launch. This cemented my decision to get the game.
5:28 "I've done nout to you, go n play golf or sumit." lmao
Paradox is just fantastic. I wish more game developers had such attention to detail and depth in their games.
I think having the options to adjust history is a total "thank you sir" like the more options the better!
I'm so interested in this but just put off because I'm too lazy to learn it.
I've played CK2 half to death, and you've told me enough to now know that they didn't go to a sequel for a cash grab. It sounds like there's real, genuine evolution of the systems that required a new base game. So good job, Mack. :)
"I'm thicc as f***."
-Mack, 2020
I always end up buying these kind of titles on sale, putting between 20-150 hours into them and then completely forgetting about them for years lol. The depth of these games is on another level compared to basically anything else on the market, if you're a deep thinker/planner you'll be amazed by the options presented to you which you can use to become a huge empire.
This game was and is wildly underrated. The character development and consequences in this makes it one of the best 10 RPGs ever made imo
CONS "I have to review Marvel Avengers next" LMAO goddamn Mack that was awesome.
I've been on a knifes edge wondering about getting this. I'm definitely getting it now
it's on MS Game Pass for PC, not bad seeing as you can also get Flightsim 2020 as well
Pretty sure this is also in the XBox game pass for PC
it is, game pass is on a roll at the moment.
I made the mistake of trying to get into Stellaris last year (same devs), lost days upon days and still didn't have a bloody clue what I was doing
"The Norway People" would be more historically accurate than "Vikings" lol
@0:54 Duke Vratislav? Baby dont hurt me. -ill show myself out.
Mack what’s your ending song name? It’s great!
it's a paradox interactive game. there are two things that all paradox games have in common.
latest from the mid-game, unpredictable obstacles are thrown in making the game too hard to play for casual gamers.
you have to begin over and over until you find out how to trick the game logic.
plus: paradox's DLC politics is an utter cashgrab! with every release comes at least 10 purchasable expansions
(some of them are quite relevant to the basic-game).
this leads to the fact that the basic game will soon cost less than the shitload of DLC's.
my advice: wait until the basic game plus important expansions come in a bundled offer
Thanks Mack ! I am gonna pick this up and give it a whirl! Cheers mate for your positive reviews on this!!! I have 4 days left before I start a new job , might as well make the most of these 4 days!!!!
I plan to save a euro a day, so in 2 years I would be able to buy this game and all the DLCs that came out with it until then!
Thanks Mack! You have the best reviews
I loved ck2 one of the funnest games that I've played, would love to watch a live stream of you playing this game.
I did CK 2 runs for last 2-3 months to learn the ropes of this. I only played Europa Univeraslis before. I deffo gonna get it now, needed some validation by trusted reviewer.
I loved the first one.
Could you please show more gameplay?
"I was so triggered that I spent two years trying to murder everyone he even knew." 😂 I genuinely got a belly laugh. Ancient video, I know, sorry, but that one got me. Love ya Mack.
Goddamn hill people, am I right?
Your right Mack "the guy in Munster" was actually called "An fear i gCúige Mumhan" :)
😂
I trust your reviews and this gives me a hope that CK3 is actually great (considering Imperator: Rome flopped pretty badly)
Just play CK2.

Keyzer Mac: How you doing Mormaer?
Mormaer Murethatch of Strathearn: I can't feel my legs... Keyser.
Keyzer Mac: Ready?
Mormaer: What time is it?
Keyzer Mac: 12:30
Mormaer: *closes the eyes*
Keyzer Mac: *chops head off*
He waits until his kingdom is in turmoil, a perfect distraction, and he goes after the rest of the bastards.
"Trigger your pop, and Keyser Mac will get you."
And no-one ever really believes.
It'll be worthabuy in 4 years and when they put the game + 15 DLC at 75% off for $100 US or so. OK, maybe not even then.
I agree, Paradox has always sort of leaned towards the greedy side. Especially now with the normal edition for half price and the super duper deluxe edition for mucho moneys. Not to mention the radio and skin dlcs for hoi4
"You doubt me, peasant?" - Sir Guy O'Neill of Munster
You can grab it for £36 on GMG (Price right at time of post) and help support the channel, just heard the keys from GMG will go out at 5:00pm tonight an hour before launch. www.greenmangaming.com/games/crusader-kings-iii-pc/?tap_a=2283-5d2ea6&tap_s=6586-4b38de
When you get STRESS, you get BANK, and then you get REP
Good to see your still pumping out videos love your reviews.
I bought CK3 because of your review. I was hesitant since I don't have a lot of money, however your review was truly refreshing and gave me the confidence that this is a great decision. Thus I played it today and it is incredibly fun. Thanks for your honest review.
As someone who's never played CK but been a tad interested..I'm excited about this one. I just hope the micro management isnt dull.
They seem to have tried to streamline it to remove the uninteresting micro and the arthritis causing nomads are gone so I'm excited for it.
Knew you'd love this one! Love the review!
When you get kicked off the King title and become Duchy, you can click ESC for menu and "choose character", pick the King that took you over and play as him.
8:00 is where it kicks off :D
nice way to deal with son, they only take time away for more.
I always check if there is a WAB video before a purchase.
I used to play EU3 and yes you can play these kind of games for years ;)
Had a baby that looked like Chucky? Mice. I've been priming myself up for a good Halloween scare around this time. Cool review. I'm betting there is so much more than can be put into this review but no way there is enough time. WOW!
I hope that you can still get a horse elected as pope and/or king like in the second one.
I’ve started several times so far.i played ck1 and 2 a long time ago. Don’t stress it if you lose just enjoy the story of your kingdom.
i've watched this review 3 times, its so funny and good. game is downloading now
The guy of Munster is called Herman.
I recommend the CK2 GoT mod so you can do a better job than the writers did
CK2 is my most played game.
The only bad thing for me is that I don’t like paradox’s dlc policy.
Same. That's why I think I'll wait for the DLC to come and then be on sell
@Sincerely Inept I bought the royal edition for $60 on g2a. I know its still technically supporting paradox but at least I gave someone else the money and not them directoy
@Sincerely Inept I got it but I didn't buy it directly from paradox. Although I wouldn't be too fussed even if I did because they actually did an impressive job. There are some aspects, like building for example, that really feel like an evolution to ck2's mechanics. I can't stop playing for the last few days

"I try not not be a complete bstd but the amount of people I burnt, they werent witches but but burn then all!!!!! Well it is cold up north! Thank you for the best game reviews on youtube!
CK 2 Conclave DLC introduced equal start random ruler placement. Does CK 3 have that on launch? Really important for me to know
Really positively surprised by Paradox. A good new foundation for CK.
It sounds like there is a little bit of distortion on the audio. like a little bit of reverb maybe? I'm not sure... anyone else notice a bit of an audio issue? Not sure if its RUclips, Mac, or me
Good review, cons at the end are my favorite part.
This is a paradox game. So look forward to spending 500 bucks on the future DLC. Fuck Paradox.
Looks brilliant. I have dabbled in CK2 for years now, the expansions and DLC were off the charts for that game. I think I spent over £100 on it.
Maybe I'm doing it wrong but I played CK2 and started off in Iceland. Nothing happened for 200 years except sheep farming went up. No civil wars, conspiracies, drunkenness, religious fanatics, etc.
Never played a CK before, but having recently got into the grand strategy world and Paradox games specifically, I'm looking forward to giving this a go. 5pm UK - Game Pass :D
man, I buy this review. that intro cover is hillarious.
