Yeah, I'm silver, a quickly approaching golden territory, but my buddies out west, who are mostly already golden, were all about one spot. They took that daily ride, as far south as possible, without crossing the border. They parked in the same spots everyday at IB, spoke to the same gold+ residents on their daily dog walks, and ate lunch at the same little Mexican joint afterward. I understand a little problem with poopy water, has caused them to change up a bit in recent years. But they had a close-knit little crew of characters there, and that made it a fun spot for me to return to each year.
Silver in the 40's? Come on Brad some respect for the old guys, 50+ 60+ those of us who nurse our injuries and miss weeks and months working our ass off trying to get healthy enough again to get back on the water for just a few more waves. Aw hell at this rate I am going to need to buy a better camera set up and a tripod.

I was crippled for a few years and started back again on a wavestorm. Got some sick waves about 8-10 ft faces at my local before deciding its time to switch back to my good board.
Especially on the Gulf Coast. It’s always the same 5-10 guys on these days. And the only time it holds a decent semi consistent sizable wave for 1-2 days. The best one I’ve had was hurricane Harvey when it hit Texas I was just south of it and it was ridiculous (above 7ft lol)
Don't forget the surfer who loves surfing but just isn't that good at it. They usually know they aren't that good but they don't care, they just enjoy being out there and having a go
I was at the beach yesterday about to go in the water. I was taking selfies and some dude yelled from his car "stop taking selfies and get out there" 💀
Well if you have the big wave surfer, then you also need the small wave surfer. He has a longboard and only surfs the smallest of waves. A one foot day is just perfect for him or her.
How about the LATE BLOOMER surfer? Guys who started at age 30+ and have the excitement and intensity of groms, as well as the same occasional lack of awareness. Talk about their daily sessions like they just fell in love with a girl. Truly, like watching kids in middle aged bodies.

After he walked away, my friend ran up and asked "How do you know Jimmy Buffet???" I didn't even know it was him. He was just a cool surfer and probably liked that he got treated like a regular guy.
Very PC of you to omit (1) the local a-hole that snakes, fades and burns people on a regular basis because it‘s "his spot", gives you the stink eye for having the audacity of existing in the same place at the same time and breathing the same air; and (2) the instructor/guide that pushes a bunch of "intermediates" into waves they would never be able to catch by themselves, thereby effectively shutting down the place because every single wave has one of the students on it.
Monthly surfer from Utah. Looks like a kook. Shows up with a Wavestorm and basketball shorts on a decent sized day in cold water. Everyone is nervous I'm going to die, but I end up catching a couple decent sized waves after being caught in the impact zone for 45 minutes. People are left in awe I didn't give up earlier and shocked that I actually caught 3 or 4 decent sized waves.
One of the secret advantages that the Grom ripper has - when you're 4' tall, a 6' face is 2' overhead... And when you weigh 90 lbs. - soaking wet - it's alot easier to glide across the flat spots, and smash the lip on gutless waves... We silver surfers and big wave guys need a little more push to get moving, like that.
Man i feel your pain! As a santa cruz ex surfer who had to shut it down cuz i had spinal fusion in my neck! Still in santa cruz county tho just training dogs and fishing now! Dig the video
I would say I’m a weekend surfer/grom. I live in Valencia and am at school so I don’t have many waves but when there are, I’m there. I picked up surfing last year and have been blown away by the waves!
I’m surrounded by groms that rip. Every 10th wave or so they give me some closeout to surf. These little $hits, I wish I was 1/2 as good as they are. But I’m just happy to be healthy and lucky enough to paddle out and enjoy.
I had a pinched nerve in the neck that too two + years to finally get better. PT, traction, Meds, Accupuncture etc. left arm would go numb, neck was stiff and painful to move, no way could I lift my head or even paddle. I feel for you and hope you can get better too.

Hi Brad :) there is this wonderful first time when you just have to jump on the board :) and its coming also to me :) in 2 weeks I fly to California and I will try my best on my first surfing. Do you have any tips ? Is Hermosa Beach good for starting point ? what you think :) thanks for your videos !
Depending on the swell direction. Yes, Hermosa has waves. Good luck 👍
