I've struggled with eustachian tube dysfunction my whole life, along with a dust allergy. I started facial gua sha for the skin care benefits, but I keep doing it because of all the things I've tried to keep my ears from getting plugged up and tubes from collapsing, this has by far been the best. I can feel my sinuses and ears draining every time I do it. It's also so soothing and sends wonderful messages of self-care to the brain. :)
@sa pasa I do this twice daily. I use wood tools, not stone. I practice wood sculpting all over the body, but for the face I work diligently in upward motions, then lighter motions with my fingers in downward motions (lymphatic drainage patterns.) I start first with "pinching" to get the blood, any fat pads and collagen to start working. It's very meditational. I play my favorite music, I find this very medicinal. I switch up oils, lotions and b4 bed use 100% collagen. I make my own serums from herbs I grow. I think my favorite now is lavender, basil and wild mint mixed with a gel base moisturizer. But I think any pure organic lotions seem to work best, nothing in products I don't know. I do my homework.

@sa pasa I don't do video. lol I'm sorry. It's quite simple. I concentrate where I need it most. But not 5 minutes per spot. I started with 10 strokes on each area. My lower area I concentrate more on. 3 upward movements on the neck (I always do 15 -20 strokes here and on the jowls area. And they were awful!) I concentrate on the fat pads that pull the face down just above the jowls. This is an important spot for me. All 15 to 20 upward motions. I always pinch first, then end with light finger work in a downward manner. People are shocked that I'm 63, 🙄 lol. A mother of one of my daughter's friends asked how old I was and she screamed, "HOW?" this I found quite fun. I offer to teach people, but most just won't do it. The whole practice takes 5 minutes. I use nivea products and hyaluronic acid and add my herbs and combine creams sometimes. It really gets in my pores, not sure if it makes a difference what moisturizers to use. I like organic and natural ones. Mint feels great. Makes my skin tingle and herbs just feel fresh. And I'm learning about more herbs as I garden, too. 2 birds with one stone. I do this twice daily on the face. I also use a charcoal mask once or twice a week. I have a lot of freckles from the sun. This has helped a LOT too. Of course, diet and drinking a lot of water helps. Really helps with detoxing all impurities. If nothing else, people need to drink more water. Once u start its addicting and not hard at all. You must know this as a dermatologist. Sorry... But I'm aggressive with the jawline, neck and jowl area. Body sculpting I do 2x a week. This takes much longer, but is very worth it. Some people replace this practice for exercise. I don't think that's a great idea. I hope I answerved your question. Sorry this was so long. If I get brave enough, I'll do a video. Wood sculpting is not my line of work. Because of my career, I'm suppose to be incognito. But the wood sculpting has worked wonders for me. Thank you for this video, the little lecture on botox was very informative. I was first introduced to traditional guasha and, while I do acknowledge its benefits, the bruising was too off-putting. Years later I received a skincare set that included a Jade roller and guasha tool. After doing some research, I realized that a lot of the techniques were similar to those I would use to perform a regular facial massage (lifting, wrinkles, double chin, eye bags). The results: as far as appearance goes, the changes have been subtile but satisfactory. The biggest bonus for me, however, was getting rid of brain fog. Due to some underlying health issues, I've always felt like there was this heavy curtain over my eyes and forehead. I feel so awake, refreshed and energized after working on my face that I've ditched the morning coffee in exchange for short guasha session, just because the effect so much better than that of caffeine.

I was tempted by some of the RUclips videos showing good results for jawline definition, but at the same time was concerned by the lack of research spring the practice. This has convinced me that there's no harm in giving it a go, in fact there could be benefits I didn't even consider, like stress and tension relief. I am amazed. After a month the base of my neck is tighter. My upper neck is likely not to tighten like plastic surgery, but it IS looking tighter and better.

Wow this is so amazing. I have a guasha but I was not sure how I should use it and if I should even use it ( I'm turning 30 this month!) but I do have those frown lines on my forehead. I think I'll concentrate my Gua Sha stone only on my forehead and on my jaw for tension release. I think it's going to be a good relaxing tool for me rather than a beauty tool and I could use that. Dr. Whitney, Understanding the process of manual lymph drainage I'm a bit surprised with the technique you recommended and demonstrated here. In the massage school I attended our 101 teacher taught us an excellent stomach massage that followed the track of the colon. We learned to 'start at the end' with small circular movements working back to the start of the colon then, proceed with the massage in the direction of movement through the organ. The reason: to release congestion at the end point, first, so 'things' can flow easier from the actual massage. When I learned about Gua Sha the technique I learned was for energy flow along the meridians. Interestingly, it was a similar procedure__using the tool with short, light strokes toward the starting point but working from a distal area. Then, working from the starting point using long, slow, deeper strokes along the meridian, several times. This is for the same purpose, to avoid further congestion while increasing ease of flow. As for under eye puffiness I, personally, would start closer to the ear/jaw area, working my way back to under the eye__then, getting into the inner corner working the under eye area, outward, even to the clavicle area. I agree with the doctor. I get blocked which results in pain under my eyes and in my cheekbones. I can literally feel the draining when I gently massage from my eyes downwards under my cheekbones and across to under my ears. I found that naturally, once, when I massaged my face to bring me relief, without knowing about how the lymph glands drain. So, I would agree with her biology based method, as opposed to the traditional ideas - at least when you have a specific issue. I'm not against traditional therapies - I have experienced the almost magical relief that acupuncture brings, as well as manipulation of the pressure point in the area between thumb and forefinger (a single acupuncture needle there once melted away a migraine instantly). I was taught how to manipulate that point to relieve pain anywhere in the body, but I haven't yet mastered it.
I enjoy using the tools. I have not seen any visible results but I do enjoy the relaxing routine. I see no lifting or improvement in skin. I may be too old at 57 to see any results.

i beend doing this for 2-3 weeks and i do se a difference in the deep lines around my mouth and also makes my eye area a littel depuffed, i think it helps the blood circulation in my face gets a small boost ( i dont really work out ) also its very relaxing :D i have also done it on my body and it has massivly helped out with alot of restriktions and nerv spasems in my left sholder& chest and arm ( but thats very deep work i would not recommend that on anyones face)

I tried this for the first time the other day. Bought one of these at TJ Maxx ($7.99). It felt so relaxing and my face did appear flushed afterward. I'll continue this along my jowls hoping to make them not as noticeable.

I tried it last night and I see the difference. I used the jade roller and any key with rounded tip🔑 🔑🔑....used the teeth part of the key for the jaw area, sanitized the key with alcohol, and then washed with natural soap before use.
Never did a thing for me and I used it night and day for two months, but I suppose if some people have puffiness due to lymphatic drainage issues it might encourage circulation and create a temporary improvement.
Hello I used gua sha just a couple of times with moisturizer and softly and since last time it seems like it burned my lip and it kind of sltered my chin and lips and I hardly touched my lip. Im really scared. Do you know if my face will go back to normal? It was about 10 days the last time. Ive bern applying healing cream for burns since then.

Anne F King, If you're referring to lymphatic draining, no real difference. If you're referring to releasing muscle tension or collagen production, big difference because of amount of pressure. Hope that helps. 💖🙌🙌🙌😺

Hi! Personally, I've done both and I see better results using the Gua Sha tool. With the Gua Sha you can have better control over pressure and a more uniform technique. Also, your hands don't get tired, causing stress on your shoulders doing a self massage. I've seen great results and I'm almost 50. You are holding your goasha Tool wrong, you are going to hold the flat Side towards your skin, and never , NEVER , put the Sharp edges towards the skin.
This reminds me of a video I recently watched of a practitioner doing guasha on a woman's back. And afterwards you see all the bruising and broken capillaries and the practitioner said the color of the bruising indicated she had "internal humidity". Internal humidity. Internal fμcking humidity!! Hilarious. I can agree that there's such a thing as lymphatic drainage massaging and that it can help with that, and help with inflammation and circulation. Never did a thing for me and I used it night and day for two months, but I suppose if some people have puffiness due to lymphatic drainage issues it might encourage circulation and create a temporary improvement.
Hello I used gua sha just a couple of times with moisturizer and softly and since last time it seems like it burned my lip and it kind of sltered my chin and lips and I hardly touched my lip. Im really scared. Do you know if my face will go back to normal? It was about 10 days the last time. Ive bern applying healing cream for burns since then.
Wondering if pulling the skin over and over with this may have a negative effect over time?

Interesting stuff. I have a Foreo sensitive which I'm testing to cleanse, focusing on strokes like you describe with cleansing oil at night. Not doing Botox just now but may go back to it later. Best wishes!

I can understand using this method on the face but what is the difference between coining and skin brushing, as far as the body is concerned? Wouldn’t a loofah and some oil get you the same results?

If you're referring to lymphatic draining, no real difference. If you're referring to releasing muscle tension or collagen production, big difference because of amount of pressure. Hope that helps. 💖🙌🙌🙌😺

Sure you won’t see this- late to this video. Was all set to go with qua sha then read some material and saw this. What if you are on blood thinners? I only take a baby aspirin but I bruise like crazy everywhere. Thin skin I guess. I’m 73
You must always put an oil on the face to do Gua Sha so it slides and just go lightly.
Also don't press on your skin, I have very sensitive skin (although very thick :)) and use it lightly because I don't want to upset my skin...

Hi! Personally, I've done both and I see better results using the Gua Sha tool. With the Gua Sha you can have better control over pressure and a more uniform technique. Also, your hands don't get tired, causing stress on your shoulders doing a self massage. I've seen great results and I'm almost 50. This reminds me of a video I recently watched of a practitioner doing guasha on a woman's back. And afterwards you see all the bruising and broken capillaries and the practitioner said the color of the bruising indicated she had "internal humidity". Internal humidity. Internal fμcking humidity!! Hilarious. I can agree that there's such a thing as lymphatic drainage massaging and that it can help with that, and help with inflammation and circulation. But honestly that was some caveman type understanding of what bruising is or why it occurs and that there's no such thing as internal humidity whatever the hell that is 😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣☠️
