So after getting a little outpost setup in the first episode I took on board some advice from the comments of the last video and put them to use.
Fancy hanging out and chatting about the games I'm playing apply here :- / discord

The refinery wasn't connected to the base. It was attached to the panel you ground down and stayed in place as a static grid. Just like your base is a static grid. The red light on the top of the refinery indicates having no power. Since the base has power as your (short and lonely😄) wind turbine is turning, but the refinery is silent and showing a red light, therefore the refinery has no connection.
The assembler had the exact same issue as the refinery.
Every (Large Grid-) block you place occupies a full cube of space:
    2.5m x 2.5m x 2.5m
Depending on which side of the grid you place your block defines where no other block has any room. If you use full cubes of armour or interior blocks (which are cheaper) you will find it easier to understand the building system. Using steel plates in the beginning can be very confusing. I wouldn't recommend using them as main building blocks. Interior blocks have so many interesting features and looks.
The Basic Assembler can also disassemble... You regain it's raw materials.
"Construction Comp." is a sturdy box with lots of bits and bobs like screws and washers and nuts and bolts,...
    "Construction Components"
The yellow conveyor ports can be connected to each other or via conveyor tubes etc.
The material and gas flow either direction through such a network. Sorters can be used to restrict or allow certain things to pass.
You can access the whole network when accessing a conveyors inventory. Have a look at the two icons above the right inventory list. if you click on the box-icon next to the helmet-icon you can see all inventories connected and move materials around. This also helps in finding faulty connections like you had with your refinery and the conveyor tube corner.
    Keep going! You'll get there!

@@Dagonius. Appreciate the reponse. I'll take a look at the conveyor stuff next time I'm on. My biggest blocker currently is cobalt which I need to find but I think i need to move the ore finder onto my base.

@@praggersgamingukonce you get the tech unlocked, you should start making a rover.
You can attach an ore detector to it and that’ll help increase the detection range of ores to around 50m.
You only need to construct a landing gear to get started with vehicles. It all flows from there.
Use small grid blocks to lay down the foundation of your rover a few blocks above the landing gear. Size will depend on what you’re using it for.
Add a cockpit, storage, wheels ( 4 or 6, choice is yours ) a battery or 2, and a connector so you can attach it to the base to recharge it, and an ore detector.
Make sure you name the items on the rover grid, so it’s easier to differentiate its components from the ones on your base’s grid when you’ve connected it to it.
Once you get to space and get moon bound, you’ll need to consider a O2/H2 generator to keep you alive in the cockpit, but you’ll need a steady supply of ice for it to function, as well as power.
Just be sure to adjust the speed settings on the wheels once you finish, as default does seem to be a little too quick.
Once you get the hang of building a rover, you could then design something a bit larger like a mining ship. This will allow you to mine and move larger quantities of materials.
Keep it up, you’re doing well.

Thanks, funnily enough, making a rover was going to be my next project, as i said in the comment above, i need cobalt to make the wire mesh which i need for the next assembler and refiner. so was thinking about getting a rover built to allow me to go a bit further and maybe gather more in the way stone and build stuff faster.
