Hi, I just found your channel and subscribed to it! I've watched all 3 videos and although I've done some work with copper ,I learned soooo much from you! One thing is how to bend a leaf "back"! I've scrapped all of my attempts at it but can now make a form,,,,thanks to you sharing how it's done! I'm retired and do this as a hobby but LOVE working with copper! Thank you so very,very much for these videos and sharing your knowledge! I'm really hoping that you do more videos! Tom

Komen Breast Cancer Race for the Cure, St. Jude, a local Children's museum and I just walked out of the shop finishing up one for ALS fundraiser for tomorrow night. My long time student helper who is now an occupational therapist, has been coming to help lately and I think it will be a long time second job for him. He can do just about everything I can now and even better, he's good at shooting the videos. We have talked about doing more soon, so check back.
I was using a size 2 tip on my smith silversmith torch. I was working on my table covered in firebrick. It was only 10” tall. I was using handiflux paste flux.
Well, you are welcome to visit. Best plan may be to find a like minded friend to come with you and spend some time here and sometime sightseeing. We have some great places to go to within an hour of the shop, some much closer as in French Quarter (about an hour).Houma's House (20 minutes) other plantations within 30 to 45 minutes.

Pammy, let me know what setup you have. Do you use oxy/acetylene, oxy/propane or some other setup? What type of solder do you use? What type of work are you doing?
Thanks. I use 0 and 5% silver solder. Mainly 0%. I also will just braze directly when joining bronze and copper together. When brazing bronze rod to copper you will need to use High Temp flux. No need to flux when doing copper to copper. Harris makes a good flux product. I use low fuming bare bronze rods.
New to this, and just LOVE what you are doing here! (When I say new, I mean newbie lol!) My question is, what is the tool called/size you are using to make the leaf veins? It looks like a Chisel but unsure. It's the best tool I've seen yet to make the veins! Please let me know, I'd so appreciate it! Your work is amazingly beautiful!!! Thanks, Kristy 🤗
Kristy; Most of the chisels are various sizes of masonry chisels; available at hardware stores or online at Amazon or EBAY or any good flea market. As I mentioned in one of the videos, you need to blunt them some and round the edges a bit so they don't cut through the copper. Use a hammer with rounded face to strike them. Get a neoprene pad to set your work on so you can get a softer line.

I'm trying to get around to it. I've been backed up a lot for a while and I have to sort of shift gears to do these. At my age, the gearbox doesn't work as smoothly as it once did.
Would love to see more videos. I made a little tabletop fountain using your magnolia flower and turning it into a lotus. But I’m having trouble getting my small sculpture hot enough. I used an acetylene/air torch and extra easy silver solder from my jewelry making stuff and just can’t get the whole item hot enough for the solder to flow. Took forever. What do you recommend?
Catherine, sounds like you may need a larger tip if you are used to doing jewelry or; and this is a possibility, you have a heat sink soaking up your heat. What sort of table are you working on?
Catherine, I use an oxygen/propane torch but used oxy/acetylene for years. Both will get hot enough when you are working on pieces with more mass. The air/acetylene torch may work fine with jewelry sized pieces that don't have enough mass to soak up the heat you are trying to add but not hot enough to work with larger pieces. That is just my guess as I have no experience with air/acetylene. I use 0% silver solder and high temp flux.
Michel, I use low fuming bare bronze rod. I either use the rods directly with high temp flux or use with 0% hard solder and flux. Available at welding supply. I use mainly 1/4 and 3/16 for most things. Copper to copper won't need flux with the 0% solder.
