  • So now that it is built it is time to upgrade some things. First things first: Electric start ($100 battery), Super adjustable metal plate CVT mount ($160), Racing Seat ($288) and a GPS speedo mount ($20). I know the racing seat is expensive but it is definitely less expensive than adding a rear suspension and seems to be doing a pretty good job absorbing some bumps. I borrowed this seat from another kart for the time being, now I have to save up for another one because it works so dog-on well.
    I'm waiting for parts on the two seater and can't wait to get back to work on it!

    Hey @KJ Raycing! Love your stuff man, you got me inspired and I built my little prototype kart too ;) to my level, of course. So out of ingenuity, I used a 4-wheeler swingarm for the rear, never seen that setup before and it seems to handle, the only gripe is of course the swingarm pivot vs. countershaft sprocket thing, you know like in full suspension MTB's, it causes chain issues , I still have to perfect a chain tensioner (of course you wouldn't have that problem if you got a solid rear or a differential). So this kart's engine/converter setup looks a bit like the one I did, in my design the motor doesn't swing with the suspension ( a feature I wanted) it stays with the frame and the sproket close to the swingarm pivot kind of allows it to work, although chain guides are a must.

    Nice job, throw a pipe header on there and run some VP 94 fuel and a measured amount of VP octanium and you will see a signifying amount of performance. We run that in our buggies with tillotson 212r stage 2 engines with a juggernaut. Have fun and make some memories. Also the rfy shocks with a resivoir helps out a lot as well.

      @KJRaycing  Год назад

      It would be awesome for sure… but for v-twin predator money I would just put an atv engine in there like I did the other ones. The one I have with the bike motor was actually the least expensive to build after the budget kart of course.

    Nice to see how well that 459cc moves it stock! I'm building a full suspension off road kart out of square tube. Using a 440cc with some modifications (stage 1, governor removal, and billet rod/flywheel for safety). Any idea what the weight of yours is?

    • @KJRaycing
      @KJRaycing  2 года назад +1

      I honestly don’t know the weight of the budget build. I’m guessing 400 or less. My 8 year old daughter can push it around the yard so it can’t be too heavy. A fully built chassis weighs about 115 lbs before adding anything. And I didn’t use all of the pieces. Spending $150 on 4 analog scales seems like an awesome idea until it’s time to hit the checkout button. I’d much rather get something towards building.

    Quick question, how did those gussets on the CVT plate work? I have the same issue with mine (very similar aftermarket backplate to yours, just a different manufacturer). Mine is 1/4" steel. Thinking about welding some 1/4" flat bar on mine just like yours.

    • @KJRaycing
      @KJRaycing  2 года назад +1

      The gussets definitely worked but check out the latest video with the comet 44 magnum, that really made the driveline perfect. The basic 40 series clutch was jumping around causing the flapping of the backplate.

      @@KJRaycing got the plans, rogue fab bender and notcher on order; and all the metal priced out, i cant wait to get started!
      Im torn on donor vehicles, part of me wants the ease of the polaris outlaw setup (wish i could find one as cheap as you did!) but wrecked bikes are so much more common and a lot cheaper. That protodie rear end set up looks great, but i dont like having to spend a lot of money for a weak reverse.
      Im wondering if reverse is even worth it, will the polaris set up pull it out from like a high center over a small berm? I dont expect too much out of it, but im wondering if i should just pull the trigger on the protodie set up and put a 600cc sport bike motor in it. I heard you briefly mention it in another video so i figured id see if i can pick your brain about it a bit. Thank you so much for all your hard work! I hope i can get at least one finished by september/october!

      @@g00gleisgayerthanaids56 see that’s a tough question because I’m not sure what your expectations are or where and how you will be driving it. The KTM is my absolute favorite, it’s punchy and explosive and has reverse. The cool thing about the street bike powered ones is the rev range, having 14k to play with while drifting is incredibly fun. The KTM is super lightweight too and is less complicated for maintenance. I don’t want to steer you the wrong way, I’m just giving you my opinions. The protodie setup is definitely awesome and definitely expensive. I’m working on my own rear end but getting it right and making it affordable takes time and patience for sure. Getting an outlaw donor will give you everything you need to build one; which is huge. I haven’t “needed” reverse yet but it is a nice convenience. But if you don’t have reverse you drive like you don’t have reverse. I’m really excited that you are getting to build one and thank you so much for joining us on this crosskart movement!

    • @g00gleisgayerthanaids56
      @g00gleisgayerthanaids56 2 года назад

      @@KJRaycing yeah i dont expect much out of reverse, im down in florida so a lot of sand but weve got some clay tracks and a few spots with real dirt. A lot of road courses and rallycross events to ride.
      Im just struggling to find an outlaw donor for a decent price, not many of those quads around me. Cheapest ive found is 3k and it doesnt even have fox podiums, just no name off brand coilovers. Plus the axles are toast.
      The more i think about reverse, the less i imagine ill actually need it, id probably use it primarily to back the kart into the trailer, to squeeze in a second one.
      Thank you for your detailed responses! Ive been wanting to get into crosskart for years! I think itll really scratch this old group B rally itch that ive had since i was a kid!

      The sprocket wouldn’t fit between because of that flange. The output shaft on the motor isn’t long enough to hold the clutch in your configuration. So you are right for sure, but I couldn’t do anything about it.

      You need to flip the driven around. The sleeves have to be opposing. You'll be eating belts when climbing hills. Plus your only getting about 70-80% of that engines power. The driver/driven misalignment is eating some of your tourqe and alot of your top end.

    I think you were talking about me as far as wanting you to mount the drive sprocket inboard in between the driven clutch and the back plate. That is correct leaving the driven mounted the same way you have it now just moving this sprocket to the inside. Then you take the drive clutch off and mount it the opposite way, where the clutches retaining nut is facing the engines side cover. I will leave a link to what I'm talking about, after mounting it this way it'll work absolutely fantastic. I've been running this setup on a 35 Plus hp stroker 460cc for a year and a half now with no problems whatsoever with the same exact torque converter kit
