    Thank god for this video. The written instructions were as confusing as trying to build a nuclear reactor. The manufacturer would be well told to put a QR code on the packaging to link to this video rather me searching for one. Good job on the video. The instructions, not so much.

    You make it look so easy, lol. I had some trouble lining everything up, and then when I went to try it out for the first time, the lower hole of the jamb bracket split in two, so now it doesn't work at all. Any chance I can get a new jamb bracket sent to me, or at least a gift certificate for a beer? :-)

      Hi Brandon, Sorry to hear that. Shoot us an email at info@touchnhold.com and we can set you up for a replacement of the jamb bracket. Maybe you can send us a picture of your installation so we can see what the problem might have been? We'd be happy to help.

    This was extremely helpful! I am a new homeowner and this was my first time trying to fix anything like this. The only problem I'm having is that the closers won't bring the door completely shut unless I bring the tension to the point where the door slams. I'm wondering if there's a way to solve this. Maybe pulling the cylinder further away from the door jam will make it pull more? Maybe greasing the hinges so there's not as much resistance? Just curious if you had any suggestions before I go and create more holes in my storm door.

    • @greenstartnh1
      @greenstartnh1  4 года назад +1

      First off, congrats on the new home! There are several adjustments you can make to increase the latching force. The first thing we should note is that you do want just a bit of slamming. The reason for this is that when your main entry door is shut, an air pocket will form between your main door and your storm door. To overcome this, the closers are built with adjustable latching force. You want enough latching force so that the door closes fully when the main door is closed. But this will mean that is slams a bit at the very end when your main door is open.
      The latching force setting is controlled by the door bracket (the one that is on the door itself). You can increase or decrease the slamming force in two ways. By changing the pin hole that connects the closer to the bracket. Or by reversing the door bracket so that the arrow on it is pointing away from the jamb. Just keep in mind that to increase the latching force, you actually want the cylinder to be positioned closer to the jam (not further away). It's a bit counter-intuitive. Please take a look at the How To section our website and we explain this setting further: touchnholddoorclosers.com

    My screen/storm door jam was installed on the outside of the door trim. The jamb bracket would be about 2” from the door jam. Will this be a problem?

    • @greenstartnh1
      @greenstartnh1  Год назад

      Hi Robin, It might cause issues with the opening angle of your storm door. The bracket needs to be installed about 1/4" back from the inside of your storm door so that the door can open fully (but not too far). If possible, see if you can install it on the storm door jam. Good luck!

    • @greenstartnh1
      @greenstartnh1  Год назад

      We suggest using a 1/8" drill bit. If you're installing in softer wood, you might want to use a 3/32" drill bit.

    • @SmarandaLawrie
      @SmarandaLawrie Год назад

      HI. Sorry about the slow reply. The spacer just makes sure the door closer is still under some tension when the door is fully shut. It's easy to install without the spacer. Just mark the holes as shown, and then swing the closer out of the way and make a second set of marks about 1/4" further away from the hinge from the original marks. Drill the second set of marks to make the holes. So your just shifting over your original marks over a bit.

    This looks like a pretty cut n dry install until it's applied to your particular situation. Such as when I try to attach the jamb bracket, it touches a length of weathersrip, thereby positioning the small tab out beyond the edge of the jamb where the door will hit it. Will removing the tab effect the door opening and closing properly?

    • @greenstartnh1
      @greenstartnh1  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Subbernh, No problem to remove the little tab. This tab is just to aid in installation. The tab should butt up against the door that the closer is being installed on. It can be taken off after that. If you don't have enough room in between the two doors to install the bracket using the positioning tab, you can remove it and slide it closer to the door, but it may alter the opening angle just a bit. Hope that helps!

    Even with the adjustment screw backed out all the way out,, it still closes slowly.
    Should the rod coming out of the piston be cleaned and lubricated in any way?
    If so, with what kind of lube? 3-in-1, white greese, etc.?
    Otherwise, I may have to buy another replacement set.

    • @greenstartnh1
      @greenstartnh1  4 года назад +1

      Hi Mario, you could try some lubricant on the rod. Something like a WD40 may help a bit. You might also check that the cylinder is clean. With the TnH Smooth, there are two small bleeder holes on the side of the cylinder that allow for the smooth closing technology to work. If those have gotten clogged up, it might be causing your closer to be closing too slowly. If you clean those off, it might help. Hope that helps!

    I just put on the tap-n-go closure. Works fine but is it normal to hear a ratcheting sound coming from it when I open the door?

    • @greenstartnh1
      @greenstartnh1  4 года назад +1

      HI! Thanks for your question. You should not hear a ratchet noise. Please email us at info@touchnhold.com so we can help you further but here are two possibilities. You may have a different brand of touch button closer. If your rod has notches on it, then you have a different brand. The ratcheting noise is normal with other closers because of the way they designed around the Touch 'n Hold patent. If you do have a TnH closer, then the noise might be coming from your door bracket. Double check to make sure your door bracket (the one on the door itself, not the door frame) is tightly fastened. If neither of those is the problem, please reach out and we can definitely help!

    • @greenstartnh1

      Hi. To get the door to close, try just pushing the door farther open (but do not touch the button again). It sounds like it's operating correctly. When you push the button, it will pop back up once the hold open feature engages. And then it is locked like that until you release the hold open feature by nudging the door farther open. Hope that helps!

    Why would you need a dual kit?

    • @greenstartnh1
      @greenstartnh1  3 года назад +1

      Hi Johnathan. The Dual kits are intended for a single, heavier storm door (typically with a full glass insert). The dual kits provide extra latching force for heavy full view doors, and also provide a bit of extra protection against wind. With a large glass door, you want to prevent torque as much as possible in the event the wind catches and pulls the door open.

    • @JonathanIsrael708
      @JonathanIsrael708 3 года назад

      @@greenstartnh1 Ok. I have a dual kit on my storm door, but when I was having furniture delivered yesterday the delivery guy popped the pins out and lost one. So I've been looking for a single replacement pin.

    The QR code on my instructions led me here, but literally every single part in this video looks drastically different from the product I purchased, and it just doesn't work.
    EDIT: The paper instructions worked perfectly. No need to consult this video if your parts don't match.

    • @greenstartnh1
      @greenstartnh1  18 дней назад

      Hi. We changed over to the metal door and jamb brackets recently. They may look slightly different than the video, but the installation steps and techniques are the same with the new brackets. The only thing you'll need to be aware of is that the metal jamb bracket does not have the positioning tab like the plastic bracket did. Just measure 1/4" back from the hinge rail to the edge of your jamb bracket and mark your holes. Hope that helps!
