Too much is made of a single gig when in reality Michael Lemo has played hundreds of amazing gigs. He is a total Pro. I wish he was doing more of it, so that he could push his own envelope past the point of comfort. Norm is being a super boss to promote himself. Nice family of musicians down at Norms.
TJ Nugent lol, like there’s nothing in it for Norm. Lemmo is showing off his inventory I a way Norm couldn’t. Lemmo has a lovely manner about him too so sells every instrument without trying if that makes any sense. Works for both. Norm isn’t doing it for the good of his health though. Lol
murphyebass Norm doesn’t need Lemmo at all. He likes the kid. All those guys can really play and if Lemmo left he could replace him with someone as good. Norm was a professional touring musician. He loves being involved in the music. Sure Lemmo is good for the business, but the business was doing fine before Lemmo and will be fine when and if Lemmo leaves. I’ve heard a lot of Lemmo’s original stuff and haven’t heard anything yet, that will make him a star.
@Eddy Vanderhellen Lemmo is the second GOTD host. You have no statistical baseline on which to base your "Impression." And yes, the videos "stay with Norm forever," but the guitars don't, so the videos won't exactly have a long tail
It's been proven time and time again a $2,000 Nash will make you happier than a $3,500 Custom Shop 80% of the time. No disrespect to Fender but I had to go through several before I found the right one. I hit the jackpot with Nash on my first purchase. S-63
I recently acquired a new lightly/minimally relec'd sonic blue Nash PB63 and I'm loving it. It arrived with a very close to dialed in, low action, setup. It only took me about 5 minutes to do the final pass to make it 100% right.
I agree with other commenters that Nash’s relicing is just plain weird. I have an old Tele that was played by a bar band vet for decades before I got it, and it looks like it. The fretboard is nearly as worn as this guitar’s, but everyone who’s ever seen & played it can tell it’s the real deal. The worn areas have softer edges and the entire neck has darkened from finger oils and night after night of smoke and stage lights and hand wear. IMO better not to aim for that level of detail if you can’t take it all the way.
I don’t like the relicing at all. If a guitar is good, it will age. Why are these companies trying to fool people? I can tell a reliced guitar in a few seconds and I’m not impressed. The fact that this custom made guitar that the original buyer probably spent a fortune on, and had a lot of input into its’ construction was sold off indicates to me that it is a lousy player.
Regarding relics - I never really cared for them either. But, I have to say Nash Guitars are f'in awesome. That's just his style. And they do feel nice to play because of the relicing...less about the look, more about the feel I think when it comes to the relicing. I'd never pay $4000 for a fender custom shop, but Bill Nash makes excellent quality guitars and has started offering non-relics too. The quality is way better than any recent American Fender I've played. I know it's a point of contention, but I agree more with this sentiment - who gives a shit if it sounds good? I just bought a Nash P bass ($1900) and a recent American Pro Fender ($1500), and there is just no comparison. The Nash bass feels better and sounds better. So who really cares about the finish. It also looks bad ass in my opinion, and even if you can tell its not vintage, that doesn't bother me for all the reasons stated above. Just my thoughts on it. But, I have only owned one reliced guitar - and it's minimally reliced (nothing like the one in this video), so I do get the other side of it too.
thuyvi vo when lemmo plays without a looper, 1 - it’s much more impressive 2 - we can actually hear what the guitar sounds like Anyone can sound good with a looper...
I have an S-57 three tone with light aging. I thinks its great. Its a 1 piece ash body and resonates like crazy. The Lollars are excellent. I'm not sure about the HW as it not labeled, could be Callaham. They're made with Extra Light to Heavy aging. People should head over to Norms or wherever you can find a Nash dealer and do your own comparison. Missed the Lemmo show at the Troubadour. Next time Mike. This time it was the Allman Betts Band at the Palace Theater in DTLA. Devon Allman Duane Betts. Robbie Krieger sat in for Trouble No More and Roadhouse Blues.
Over the top relicing....I like it. Dunno why, but add to that the tone coming from it, and you have a winner! Hope all goes well at ye olde Troubadour for all the Norm's folks♥
"Medium" aging? If that's medium, heavy aging would have holes worn all the way through the body, or something! It does sound good in general, though there doesn't seem to be much differentiation among the pickups as you toggled through. Nice strong tone though. 😎
Love Nash. Very comfortable to play and sound killer. Guitarists only genres are too pissy about relicing. It’s like buying jeans that are already broken in. Different strokes. They feel great to play.
nuendo2496 I’ve had 7 Nash Strats and still have 4. I’ve never found a fender custom shop one yet that sounds as good. I’ve played over 40. I’m sure there are some good ones but you would have to spend half of your life looking. 6 out of 10 nash guitars sound awesome. You can tell within 30 seconds of playing. A good les Paul is even harder to find. Wildwood featherweight Gibson Les Pauls we’re extremely consistent. Most were right at 8lbs non chambered. Glad you like your Nash.
These guitar Bill makes just work. My 2006 T-52 has a beautiful 1" thick boatneck w/maple fretboard and the Lollar pickup just nails the tone so good. Butterscotch Blackguard, not heavy and not featherweight.
I'm not into the fake relicing thing as a concept, but I have played one, not a Nash, and it was really comfortable, not sure if it was because it was "broken in" or if it was just because it wasn't so pretty that I felt i had to baby it.
Sounds amazing (& Lemmo is a wonderful player despite that moustache creeping back) but I personally am no fan of that relic style job. I thought it was just me until I saw the comments... Still a great video, & hope you're kicking ass (you'll be onstage as I write this, lol)
