  • The Supreme Court will hear what's being called the most significant homelessness case in decades on Monday. The court will consider whether banning homeless people from sleeping outside when there isn't enough shelter space, is cruel and unusual punishment.

You can't have a free for all. You have to have permits to drive a nail. What about tax paying homeowners? Health and sanitation are serious issues. Predatory crime.

To say a person with nowhere to sleep can't sleep outside is to say they can't exist. What are we going to do to punish them? Give them a bed and a meal?

This Supreme Court may rule that Police can end homelessness by mag dumping anyone sleeping in a tent or laying on the ground due to homelessness.

@@trucking4crypto195 Oh right. Everything was amazing in 2020, and everyone had a job and a home. That's why Trump handed out two, multitrillion-dollar rounds of disaster relief money.

Who needs empathy and practical solutions when you can just outlaw being homeless, right? It's not like people experiencing homelessness have any other options or anything. Brilliant move, Supreme Court, absolutely brilliant.

If only they can mandate affordable housing. If sleep8ng outside is banned. Where will they go. I know a few who are homeless and have a job.

Poor is optional in the US. Usually because of drugs, alcohol, or laziness. Those who are mentally ill should be admitted to an institution like we used to have before the 1970s

This city sees the homeless as something that will take away from tourism, its only money maker since the logging industry collapsed. There are empty building all over town that could help wirh the homeless problem. But the latge senior retirement community is grifting off renters

That means that if I’m driving along, and I’ve gotten a little sleepy in the afternoon and I pull over on the street and snooze for a couple of minutes which I have been known to do then I would be arrested and thrown in the clink because I got sleepy behind the wheel of my car and needed to take a break for a few minutes. That’s insane, other thing that’s insane is we’ve got a problem here in this country and all we’re doing is letting the flipping drug companies and our society responsibilities off and why don’t we just create poor houses again?

  • @grisall

Why don't they move to a more affordable region if their problem is because it is a high cost area not drugs, alcohol, mental illness or just plain laziness

We actually do have the resources it’s just that the president keeps giving out the money to other countries. And allowing immigrants to freely come into our countries without being vetted.

It's faulty legislation. People are vilified, criminalized and disenfranchised via the war on drugs. Sec 8 restricts household composition. While when poor children turn 18 yrs old many lose assistance.

We embrace Capitalism, whose cornerstone belief is competition. When we compete, there are winners and losers. This is what losing looks like. It's inhumane and barbaric. People are made to live like animals because they have behavioral health conditions. Livestock is better-taken care of because it has financial value in society, while humans are discarded and treated like things and thrown away. As technology progresses, this will be the fate of more and more of the population as they lose their jobs to automation. We are already living in a dystopia. We don't need a zombie apocalypse or nuclear war. We are doing this to ourselves. It's a self-inflicted injury.

Socialism is NOT the answer, it has always failed. We need a major shift and plans that do not pretend to be humanitarian when all they do is enrich politicians and grifters.

Make helping homeless people a tax deduction, and the rich would be helping every day. The government gives no incentive to help the homeless. When was the last time a billionaire gave a large donation to help with affordable housing or turning large vacant buildings into homeless shelters?
