      @@katewang4351 Mb Yeah I meant to say 862 lbs. I just didn't have the correct statistic up.
      About 200 scientists in the United States and 10 foreign countries are still studying the lunar samples today. Even though about 840 pounds of lunar samples have been
      brought to Earth, NASA is still being very conservative in how much is used. Those who study the samples usually receive a piece smaller than one-fourth inch on a side; a very few receive larger pieces.
      All material (except that which is used in experiments that consume the material) is returned to NASA when the work is finished for use in new studies. Only 2
      percent of the total samples have been consumed in analysis during a decade of study; another 10 percent is in use being studied in scientific laboratories, on exhibit in museums, in educational sets that are circulated among schools and universities; 88 percent is being carefully preserved for scientific studies in future years, which will use new and more powerful analytical tools not yet known today. All in all the U.S is using more than 100 lbs of moon rock for study at almost any given time.

      Nick G yes US is definitely far more ahead of China for space science investigation. I didn’t mean the prosperity of advantages compared to US. The yearly budget for space has been much less than US. China has not tried to have competition with other countries. Take own steps little by little to get to where we desire and plan. Anyway this step of Change 5 is a big step for China and means a lot.

    • @nickg1895
      @nickg1895 3 года назад +3

      @@katewang4351 China has increased space spending 349% over 15 years. That's just on the government side. Private investment in space is also reaching a new orbit. A total of $22.3 billion has been invested in 476 space companies since 2009, according to investment firm Space Angels. You are right though that the U.S does spend a lot more on space exploration but its usually only .4% or .5% of the federal budget each year, around $19-20 Billion.
