  • Update* To see how Turdy is doing now, check out her latest videos on my new channel that I will be posting to from now on - • Meet "Turdy" the Commo...
    Turdy is getting big fast! So big, that she's having a hard time getting around her tank with the way the drift wood is set up. In this video I change the layout so she can swim around a bit more freely, but still has a nice natural look to it.
    Song is called Snackmix by Michett, check it out here: freemusicarchive.org/music/Mic...

    Might be hard to do in an aquarium but you should try adding a basking area. My common snapper basks all the time.

      I should make an updated video. She's got a basking area now, and a hide. It doesn't look quite as nice but it's way more functional for a big turtle.

    Turdy. Appropriate name. Going to have to cut the tip on the turkey baster.

    Hilarious. Found a yearling snapper today. My 5 yo named him poop head. Great video! They love frogs and toads too You could have bacopa plant floating in there. If he tares it, it will just keep growing Do you worry about his claws tearing out the silicone and ending up with a leak?

      I'm going to have to upgrade here soon. I took out the wood to give her more room. I'm going to upgrade to a 300 gallon stock tank eventually.

      Wow! A alligator snapping turtle? That’s amazing, mostly you need a permit for those and there illegal where I live

    • @jessiefranklin9318
      @jessiefranklin9318 3 года назад

      Wouldn't the snapper eat the sliders though?

    • @jessiefranklin9318
      @jessiefranklin9318 3 года назад

      @CeIestiaI They do eat other turtles in the wild though. So if one of the sliders goes for the bait then it will eat them

    • @jessiefranklin9318
      @jessiefranklin9318 3 года назад

      @CeIestiaI Yes commons are more aggressive but that's because of their hunting style. A loggerhead will definitely eat other turtles if they go for its bait were as a common will actively attack them

    • @motiszm
      @motiszm  5 лет назад

      I've been working on an update, I'll share it here when I upload it! I'm using a canister filter with an external inline pump now. The duckweed came from the river I live next to.

    I have a snapper and im having a hard time with his water seems like it turns green even just the next day when i change the tank water I do treat it and I try not to change all the water but since its so green i change prob 75% of it is there anything that i can do to fix that?

    • @motiszm
      @motiszm  5 лет назад

      Get a huge canister filter and load it with filter media. I'm using a cheap one off Amazon called a sunsun 704B, it seems to do the trick. Also get plants, even just duck weed helps.

      Cindy Geer Try using filter fish, plants, and use a filter with filter media like OP said.

    Does the turtle eats some of those fishes when she is hungry?

    • @motiszm
      @motiszm  5 лет назад

      Yes, they do get used to the turtle though and find places to hide, which makes it hard for the turtle to get them.

    • @21dxminic13
      @21dxminic13 5 лет назад

      [CHFD] Chainfeeds889 if it were to be a common snapper a 90 gallon would be enough for about 4-6 years if it lived there since it was a baby

    Great aquarium, love the catfish swimming around. I have a common snapping turtle (just a baby when i found it near the creek and was missing a foot). I figured it might not survive and felt sorry for it so decided to keep it. Mine doesn't bite, I can hold it, pat it. Cute little guy! Yours had its mouth open ready to snap, do they get more agressive when becoming adults?

    • @motiszm
      @motiszm  5 лет назад

      Hold your turtle frequently and hopefully it will keep its nice demeanor. Mine generally doesn't snap, but I keep a close eye on her and don't risk getting bit. She's getting better but each turtle is different.
