I made this design with 1.5 piping instead and it works really well. I've carried boards up to 10' long in it with no problems so far.

Thanks for this great video! I'm gonna give this a go at the weekend, not to carry a surfboard but a window cleaning "A" ladder.

can you make something like this to fit existing U holders that I already have 2 pairs of from previous bike racks where the clamp went with the bike??!! Anyone have suggestions of how to do that?

Great board rack but how the fk do you think pvc pipe/ bike tyres etc are manufactured.. you justify your cycling but it is created by many diverse manufacturing processes so as to allow you to go " GREEN " .. you live in a fkn dream ... good luck inhaling all those exhaust fumes on your way to the surf ... still a great build

It's impossible to live 100% 'green' in every single way, but I would assume at the very most 1 week of driving emissions plus the environmental cost of processing and transporting that crude oil/gasoline would offset the PVC pipe and the bike tires. It's a net benefit and one that will improve your life as time goes on with more exercise, easier to park, no emissions, etc.
