I like Tom Hanks but this movie sucks. It doesn't look like they are acting in Saudi Arabia. The actors are not even Saudis, mostly probably non Arabic speaker's plus none of the cities that are in the movie exist in Saudi. I think that the movie is not even close to reality. Sorry Tom Hanks but your movie really sucks.

I caught it today..opening day matinee. The imagery of Saudi Arabia is incredible. It has tremendous space to it. It's a mature, wise, very unusual film. Extremely different than anything I've sen before. It's not a small screen experience. I was knocked out. Hanks is excellent. The locations are a character unto themselves in this.

In no way does it show Arabs as being undeveloped, far from it. For me it shows them in a somewhat positive light, as a people trying to achieve the perceivably impossible. It shows a foreign individual who travels to a country, with preconceptions that are shattered by love. I don't see anything wrong with that.

I have almost watched all of your movies. and I was fascinated by your roles and the main ideas they discuss.
However, I'd like to let you know, that it's cristal clear, that you've taken this role only under temptations, and I'm quite sure you've made big money out of it.
First, this is not your type pf movies, Tom Hanks's films are deep, rich, and elegant (I've always been amazed by the Dan Brown films). this one is overloaded with political shit.

The trouble is that the events reported in the media often fail to provide the all important context.

I stumbled across the DVD a few weeks ago & really enjoyed this film. Tom Hanks, as always was brilliant & very amusing in parts & had me on the edge of my seat with the Panic Attack Scene. I've been there & that was very realistic. I cannot believe all the negativity & nit-picking in most of the comments on here & fail to understand that "Feel Good Movies" with happy endings, many laughs & good acting do not get more plaudits.

they definitely dont. They cant even drive cars over there. They also have religious police that beat and imprison women for going against god. My aunt was chased by them many times in Dubai (she didnt like to wear gown and headwear.)

fenkinfe - Even though Saudi Arabia doesn't look as it does now, this doesn't mean it was dessert in the 90's, because in the 90's it was the peak of Saudi Arabia, when everything was great. but then Saddam happened.
