I was actually brushing my teeth during that part of the conversation
i’m pretty sure ai just learns what images look like based on description (so like “icon of corn cob with “corn cob” written underneath”), but it never really learns what letters are or how to spell. so it’s trying to spell just by thinking about what a prompt should look like. it doesn’t really know what letters are; it just knows how/where they appear in images and tries to reproduce that. ykwim? and it’s gotten better over time but not perfect.

Why does ChatGPT get spelling wrong? Because it isn't true AI. It's just a large language model trained using examples from the internet. It just splices together replies using those examples without comprehension. Why is "Slippery Ladders" lubricated and safe? Because 'slippery' is often paired with 'lubricated' in its human approved examples, while 'ladders' and 'safety' are also paired together.

Image generators work differently than text generators. It's actually exactly what Link thought Rhett told him. It sees words as images, not words. They've gotten a lot better at making the words correct, though.
