I would say, do not go to the shower straight after your run but wait 5-10 minutes for your body to warm down a little. I like do stretching for 6minutes and then go to the shower. If you walk for 5 minutes after your run that’s great too 👌
@@aliasgharkhoyee9501I’ve tried, but the inner-temperature of the body stays warm ( if it’s an under 5 minutes shower ). Furthermore it can be bad for the muscles depending on your goals. But I’m not an expert so don’t take my advice for granted. Sorry if my English is bad 😅
sounds crazy but If its hot outside(above90°F)ill hose myself off with the garden hose before I change gets all the nasties and sweat off your gear before theyre washed and it feels great
Thanks for this. Living in Borneo at the equator where the hardest thing to do - year round - is to cool down, this seemed a bit pointless and I turned off. But was obviously interested enough to scroll the comments to see if others felt the same. Just didn’t apply to me at all.
Just finished a 15km run. Checked online, and found out you just released a video what should (or shouldn"t) I do now. Thanks. Also: Marry Christmas :)
Started this running season at the end of January this year which is earlier than usual and I live in Canada so some of those January, February runs were cold.
I used to just have breakfast, shower then off to work - never did any stretching which I’m sure lead to runners knee and about 2 months off. Now I go straight into a 10min stretch routine each time, foam rolling and all 👍💕
I come back from my long ISH run, jump in the shower and re-fuel with a healthy wholemeal sandwich and a drink, then take a quick nap on the sofa. I'm not as young as I used to be 😮😇👍
love your video i do not do any off these its just common sence not to, i dont tell anybody about what i do or how fast i run, i run against my watch not against other runners,
I AM NOT saying the advice is not good. But I used to be a member of a successful large running club that meet at a sports club house. After every run, the routine would be shower, then into the bar for a couple of pints. Was never sure it was a good idea, but that's what happened, and still does as far as I know.
I believe that low or non-alcoholic beer might be. Read somewhere about German non-alcoholic beer being a good post run drink. I have milk after a run and a beer abit later as the presenter suggests.
@Global Triathlon Network I frequently have a sweet bar after a long run (2hr+) to cope with carb depletion before my proper meal is rdy. Is this a bad practice?
There is nothing like a cold beer after a run! I guess the only better thing is posting a photo of it as you drink it on Strava while lying down on your couch after beating your friends on a segment and waiting for them to respond after they get the notification they’re no longer the leader!!
It’s actually better to have something sweet post run, as long as it’s combined with a protein source. Spiking your insulin will help get protein where it needs to go.
With having sweet things after a run, I'm not a scientist, but I'm pretty sure your body needs insulin for protein synthesis to take place. So wouldn't it be a good idea to have something a bit sugary alongside a nutrient rich high carb and protein snack/meal?
Heather and Mark Love your video, I'm guilty of that (put my hands up to it) guilty of having Chocolate/sweets after run, have a sweet tooth. Also have Coke, after run. Is that bad for you. (Coke after run) Heather Mark your both cool people, hope you both had a nice Christmas and hope you have a Nice New Year.
@@johnpatrick3096 I mean not really, yes obviously, having coke all the time is bad, and will cause you to gain weight, but my excuse for eating all those unhealthy things is that I run and end up burning whatever I gained 😂
It all depends.. Elite athletes often run up to 3 times a day. It's very rarely when an elite marathoner runs only one time in a day, unless they had a hard 30+k session that day. And even then some runners will go for a shorter recovery jog in the evening.
split infinitive, gee... "NOT to do". Regarding the tips, from a logistical standpoint, it can be difficult not to get in the car after a run. But point taken.
Don’t expect anyone to give a crap about your run. Especially the Mrs. Because they won’t especially when your prioritising half killing your self over relaxing with them. Speaking from experience 😂
Just don't start or end by your high intensity interval and your are fine. It depends of each person and the kind of session you have planned, but between 10 and 20 min at Z1/2 is a common thing for your HIIT session. Dylan Johnson made a video on that subject also.
Starting to get in a routine of afternoon long jog, come home and prepare big healthy dinner after having shopped beforehand and of course nice hot shower, fresh clothes and rehydrate. It's going well. Now relaxing sipping tea eating fruit in bed tweeting 😁🙏🥕🍄🥑🍉🥦🥬🇬🇧
I am confused, I always thought beer was THE perfect isotonic, rehydrating beverage. Are you telling me runners in Germany have been doing it all wrong?
But after a run I always go straight to the couch to drink beer and browse social media while eating sweets and bragging about my run
You HAVE to have a beer and brag about the run. Why else did I download Strava?
Lol
You've earned the beer and bragging rights!!! Why else would someone run?
Why do these people think I run?
Me too, Wilvin! Where would we be without GTN?!?
By my count, you sat down with a total of 9 beers in that video...Merry Christmas!

Lul thanks for saving me time. I feel like they just pump out videos to pump out videos, not to help anyone with a lick of common sense.
Why would you drink beer with alcohol which will make your hard work meaningless when you can just drink water or protein shake
Good work Gazza mate
Most of if it is garbage. These running channels are jokes for the most part. A big piss up if you ask me.
Get some hot beverage instead of beer... 🤷

What beer?
Also forces you to drink fast to avoid warm beers...genius.
The first tip definitely doesn't apply in most parts of Australia - you're lucky if you're able to cool down without a cold shower after!
Number 1 was a very british problem... For me number 2 was as well...

'Well you might wanna check strava....' hahahahaha I'm dying here 🤣 brilliant, nice video thank you
Be honest. You got caught with the beers after your run so decided to turn it into a "what not to do" video to avoid getting judged.
I love that refreshing sweet (but not too sweet) taste of a quality chocolate flavoured protein shake with milk after a run.

Post Run beverage of choice = 40 ounces of Ice Cold Malt Liquor, specially wrapped in a brown paper bag...so thick you can spoon it up!!
i always: shower, eat, sleep, wake up and drink a coffee. I love it! :)
You should never drink Heineken after your run, or at any time of the day!
False news.
@Seppe Snoeck Definitely agreed. Sewage water.

Heather really had to suffer for this video…wine, beer, TV, cakes, 😂😂
I never knew I shouldn’t eat sweets after a run. I’m actually being serious. Thank you so much! x
Admittedly I get directly in the shower and bring my phone with me. Reviewing data in a hot shower with a post recovery shake is my favorite.
Shower beers!!!!
Went to a bakery after a morning run once, ended up having WAY too much bread roll, biscuits and pastry for the day^^
Watching this in my sweaty, cold running clothes while enjoying a beer.
Good points,
Heather, those images of pastries and cookies are not helping :)
In some experiments Beer can hydrate better than water. I'm still waiting for somebody to make a post-run beer.

No. If in the UK try Brew Dog. Lovely
