Assange by his releasing the secret records without redaction proved nothing, other than that he is arrogant and indifferent to the lives he endangered. He doesn't deserve sympathy.
This is a tactic straight out of the KGB playbook. I was subjected to the same many years ago, and know many others who have been subjected to this tactic.

He blundered with invading Ukraine, showing the world how badly armed, trained and incompetently led the Russian forces are, after his vaunted modernization of Russian forces. He has gravely, possibly fatally, weakened Russia with his evil wars and corrupt system.
