@@spiritualpopcorn respectfully disagree -if gaga is inspired by these artists, she will bring new fans to the artists she was inspired by and the younger generation will discover people like GJ. ive seen it 1st hand with my nephew and nieces. the influences she has had on young people to discover, Madonna, Kiss and bowie, metalica, queen (for gods sake, she is proud because she got her name because of Radio Gaga- which made her fans go -who is Queen?), u will be suprised.
@@andrewwallace1281 A bit like Roger Taylor's Barbie doll listening to the caca on the radio and wondering what it was all about perhaps. But I think that Queen wanted to liken the Radio Gaga theme to an H G Wells (or maybe even an Orson Wells) dystopia setting. Lady Gaga apparently took her stage name from that song title (it is said). Whoever inspired the Lady Gaga style is still a question for me, but it probably wasn't entirely of Queen origin. It's suggested by some that it was Dale Bozzio from Missing Persons who inspired Lady Gaga.
I'm totally impressed! She didn't have a huge production, no follies, no dancing men....Just a staircase and a lift, in the dark I might add... and it was brilliant! LMAO wtg!
Hi James, so far "One Man SHow" is only on VHS and not very good. I don't think it's ever been put on Blu-ray. I've only seen it in it's entirety on RUclips. Watch it on a large flat screen...movie theatre style with the lights off. the hues or red and blue make her look like a floating dream. terry
Thank you for that! I presume that because it's rare the VHS lack in quality. I'll search further and maybe have some of my geek gods to clean it up and transfer it. Thanks again!
I remember the first time I saw her perform this song. It was October 1978 and she was doing a benefit for the Gay Community Center in DC. The concert was held at the Sheraton Park Ballroom (in Woodley Park) and I'm not sure hotel management knew what they were getting themselves into. As per her usual, Grace was hours late but a DJ kept the thousands of gays and lesbians dancing like it was a Sunday T-Dance. When she finally came on stage, she thrilled the audience with her electrifying performance. For this song, she donned a long white wedding veil and used a black leather whip to chase after several young, hot guys all wearing the skimpiest underwear probably allowed by law. What a memory!
I was at one of Grace's Birthday parties and she showed up in Kabuki makeup w/a blond triangle wedge wig w/Dramatic heavy Black Eye liner with the gold textured version of this Issey Miyake body amore. She had a room just for her immediate guest and another one for the cake which was on the stage.. She & Scavullo decided to do the tango and it was a sensation to see the two of them dance toe-to-toe in the middle of the floor that was strone w/large pillows at which some point Francesco fell on one of them. Grace cracked her fan and began to flap it over him. The fall was not intentional but the cocktails were. The night was one to remember seeing cake, being served and airborne by Grace from the stage, frozen in mid-air approaching my camera lens. The lens survived. The cake did not and was dissolved w/champaign. LoL AND she Graced us w/a mini performance of a few numbers..... There are others I'll pardon from sharing here.
A true performance Artists I saw her outdoor concert at Paramount studios Hollywood! She was Insane! I loved Her the police cut the show short it went over scheduled time they unplugged her Mike so she threw the Mike at them The one and only Grace Jones Fierce!!
She was before Madonna - I saw Grace in concert in 1984 and one wonders just where Madonna got her ideas for moxy and costume - probably from Grace. But, being a white woman Madonna became more popular but the rest of us know where she got the idea. Long live Grace!
I was too young & sheltered to appreciate her back in the day. I'm watching a bunch of her videos now. Madonna, Lady Gaga, & so many others had lessons here (& elsewhere). ...damn, shame people have to be rude, especially to say so little.
i saw her live in 1977 at a san francisco disco. what a night. the kind of thing you hear, but think they are exagerating, but no, she put on a show like i've never seen. it wasn't the best i've ever seen. but i'll never forget it.
she is still ahead of her time. remember norma desmond saying "im big, it is the pictures got small"... and i watched her live in Istanbul once. one of the best nights of my life.
This is one of the deleted songs from "A One Man Show", recorded at the Beacon Theater in New York City, 1980. The concert was released on VHS, then reissued at a later date, under the name of "State Of Grace" with the video of Slave To The Rhythm added. Neither has been released on DVD.
Grace Jones é fantástica em todos os sentidos..... Deveria ser obrigatório todo ano ter pelo menos uma batalha de lip sync no Raul Paul Drag Race com essa música! Que performance, socorrrrrro!!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Ahhhhh.....Grace Jones......I am so grateful that I shared the time and space on earth at the same time that you did....otherwise I would have missed the opportunity to see what self-expression in it's true definition is all about.....YOU ARE FUCKING AWESOME !!!!!!
Love the top. I'm going to make one for Kevin. Saw her in the streets of DC many years ago at a free concert downtown. It was past its time, she was topless and raving, women were removing their children. Her image is still relevant, her art still informs, if there is anyone listening.
The breastplate was made specifically for HER....then it photographed for ART NEWS MAGAZINE.. the 1st time a article of clothing made the cover of the magazine.. A SERIOUS STATEMENT FOR THE EVOLUTION OF HAUTE COUTURE.. AS ART....
A Grace Jones movie should be in the making right now. This woman is AWESOME! I shout it out to the WORLD.
She was so ahead of her time. Her influence took 40 years to be mainstream. She definitely deserves a place in the Rock Hall.
Yeah and Gaga should be put out of our misery

Minimalism to the best degree.

*Yawn* Madonna has absolutely nothing to do with CJ. Different artists, different background, different influences, different everything.
I was too young & sheltered to appreciate her back in the day. I'm watching a bunch of her videos now. Madonna, Lady Gaga, & so many others had lessons here (& elsewhere).
...damn, shame people have to be rude, especially to say so little.
My mother used to rock that hairstyle in the 80s. A little higher of a flattop but she rocked it. But nobody but Grace can be Grace.
Magnanimous performance! What a powerful black beautiful woman.
