- Panel and Q&A from November 13th 2021 Comic Con Liverpool. This panel features stars from The Originals which is an American fantasy supernatural drama television series that began airing on The CW on October 3, 2013. It is a spin-off of The Vampire Diaries and the first television series expansion of the franchise based on its parent series.
The panel features Phoebe Tonkin, Summer Fontana and Charles Michael Davis, and was part of a full weekend of festivities at the UK's leading pop culture event Comic Con Liverpool.

Summer is like the innocent child, Phoebe is like the protective mother. And Charles is that older brother that says whatever he wants infront of whoever 😂😂😂 I miss this cast and this show so much

This was amazing we definitely need more of vampire diaries,the originals,and legacies interviews and for them to be longer

Phoebe and Charles seem like such lovely, humble, fun people, and of course Summer is totally sweet. All three of them were wonderful in the show. It's so nice to see they still look back fondly on the experience and that they all got on so well with each other. That genuine chemistry I think really comes through in the show to make it something special. I definitely was absolutely gutted that they killed Hayley off, especially in the way they did, so I think I agree with Charles and from the looks of it Phoebe as well on that.

Little did they know, Charles would be in Legacies this year.

I have to agree with Charles, The Originals is "Vampire Diaries but better." i found seasons seven and eight of the vampire diaries so boring, imo it got worse after Nina left. but with the originals, it just got better as the seasons went on. season one was more establishing context, and season two was obviously finding out about klaus' relationships with Finn and Kol and having Vincent and Caleb introduced. season three was the best because it was when Hayley and Hope left New Orleans with the coffins after Lucien bit the original brothers and freya. season four was obviously about the sacrifices everyone made because of the hollow and how at the end, the mikaelson clan ended and they had to go their separate ways. and season five was sort of a wrap up to all the loose ends, and with Klaus and Elijah dying, it was sort of a restoration of order in nature. imo the originals has such a deeper meaning than the vampire diaries. tvd is more about romance and betrayel whereas to is more about the depth of relationships within a family and the sacrifices made (as shown through the countless death.) i love watching to way more than tvd. i still think there should have been more seaons of the originals because wtf is legacies? lol
Despite a few small continuity errors from the final 2 seasons, I am totally in agreement that Originals massively out did Vampire Diaries. I love the originals. Every season is relevant and interesting if not as fun to repeat as some others. The emotional moments are STRONG and only get more powerful. The character building and consistency is superb and Marcel was a character that fit in so naturally and so well it was like he had always been around. It's moments with EVERYTHING were so powerful. The betrayals, the affairs, the losses, the heartbreak. I have found few shows if any that can compete with Originals in that sense, never mind just comparing to VD! There should have been more Originals because as you said, Legacies? Really? But at the same time... mehh I dunno. It stopped at a perfect point to wrap up. I would be worried if it continued just for wanting more that it would ruin it. But they certainly gave no reasons to believe that. Was always so damn well done despite ever so slight writing errors toward the end.
Same, just for me it got better when nina left. Her character annoyed the hell out of me.

No tvd had more of a nice clean baseline and originals had too many things that didn’t line up .. the magic part became a little extra even though I loved them both

Hab mir vor kurzem erst alle Staffeln von 'The Originals' am Stück angesehen und muß gestehen das sie mich mit jeglichen Emotionen (Freude, Trauer, Sehnsucht und sogar Tränen...) komplett gefesselt hat! Echt Hammer Serie (die es sogar geschafft hat mich mit 46 Jahren wie ein Teenie zu fühlen da ich mich direkt in die Traumschauspielerin: Phoebe Tonkin verliebt habe! xD Ist einfach eine Traumfrau und super Schauspielerin!) ^^

what i want to know is why the hell was there not a lot of crossovers/ characters going between each show when they literally were on the same set? like i would have loved to see Damon in New Orleans and for Hayley to return when Tyler was killed. and i wanted Elijah and Elena to get together so badly! and hello, KLAROLINE COULD HAVE ACTUALLY HAPPENED! SCREW DELENA I WANT KLAROLINE!
I don't think Caroline was the right one for Klaus because cami would actually die for Klaus Caroline I don't think so Caroline call Klaus when she actually need something
They said it in I think one of the San Diego cons that crossovers, while fitting since they're the same story, involved having the cast do 2 episodes simultaneously so that was double the work. They also apparently filmed at least TVD and TO several miles apart so that'd also take time shuffling actors from set to set and probably a logistical nightmare to coordinate. Crossovers also took away from the main show as storylines might need to be put on hold and there was a completely different set of writers on each show. I also personally feel like once it'd make sense to have them crossover (aka they're gonna need to be gone for a bit cause you're not gonna say goodbye just to bring them back cause then just keep them there in the first place) that they "belonged" on their different shows. The stories were taking place states apart (goggle says 15 hour drive) so a character would have to travel out of their way to begin with. And they had their own things going on. They "didn't have time" to deal with another show's problems when they already has so much of their own!

Thank you Caroline should have crossed over once she turned off her humanity. Have Klaus take her too New Orleans and they interact. I also think there should have been 5 episodes were the entire TVD cast are in New Orleans for some reason. Just bad and lazy writing from Julie Plague sadly. Never capitalizing on opportunity

SPOILERS ALERT FOR END OF ORIGINALS
I think it sucked how it ended for Hayley, I think we all do, because even though Tonkin said it may have been necessary and yeah she had a bad arse death for a great reason, it was still fricking Hayley!! Deserved WAY better, or rather just.. more? Plus Hope losing Klaus AND Hayley in one season when she finally could have eventually had both back is beyond harsh. Sure of course we all know that she still has all this power and has her original bad arse aunt Rebekah and Super OP Brother/Uncle? I guess? 🤔 Marcel and she has aunt and uncle Davina and Cole respectively and her Aunts Freya and Wolf etc etc we know all that. But despite having all that, come on, she is gonna likely live a LONG life considering herself and her relations, and yet she has to go through all that eternity without either of her parents? She would have only had them for the what?.... 8yrs of her life she remembered upto when she lost them? That is rough as hell to go on with. By a hundred years later there will be so little of them to draw on for her. Elijah's perfect ending would have been the same but for him to take the hollow in and have what would have been a suitably noble end for himself and die at Klaus side knowing he had finally succeeded and was dying for something worth while and so that Klaus could go on. They should have made it so that Klaus allowed it that way.
P.S For those I spoke to that said part of the reason was because it was the last remaining of the White Oak Stake that they both decided to die together, remember that is irrelevant when Marcel has the power to end an Original whenever they choose.
ANYTHING anyone has anything to add based on Legacies please let me know as I have not been able to see the show yet and am still reluctant.

I miss Phoebe and Charles and Summer and the show especially miss Joseph, Daniel and Claire and all the rest of the cast.
Summer has always been so poised and so mature even back when she played Hope she was very smart for her age. She reminds me of Cailey Fleming from The Walking Dead shes so wise beyond her years just like Cailey. I always thought she was very mature even as a child for her age, she is an amazing child star. I thought she did a beautiful job playing Hope Mikaelson....

I am rewatching H2O and thought it was cool that Phobe was going back to her roots. I like all the answers.

I would never want that. A Vampire is an easier Transformation than that. Its not worth it. Waking up with a tail and having powers would be so much easier.
