Also the decent into evil/crazy is 7 years of Silco manipulating her and feeding her paranoia and various other issues.
If Vi hadn't been taken away for 7 years, they would probably have reunited soon after, and (hopefully) Powder wouldn't have turned into Jinx.

Jinx is utter trash. She kills her family and NEVER takes responsibility!!! Not once! She is a terrible person and I hope she dies next season, and I hope Echo is the one who kills her.
Echo is YOUNGER than Jinx. They BOTH lost everyone in one night. But Echo had no one to take him in. HE managed to NOT be a psycho murderer. He ends up HELPING people. Bringing them together and making a family group.
Anyone making excuses for that literal shit Jinx should really self reflect. She's no different than a mass shooter. Bitch needs to be put down.

The saying goes “any port in a storm” and Powder was fucking drowning. Literally, her deepest darkest fears just came true and her world was falling apart around her. She was surrounded by chaos and the corpses of her family, abandoned by the person she cares for the most after she confirms what she always feared she was (a painful burden on those she loves), and then here comes Silco; a calm, comforting voice when she was at her absolute lowest (mirroring how she was found by Vander in a lot of ways). We as viewers have perfect clarity on the situation, and exactly what part Silco played in this tragedy, but the character, Powder does not. That context rationalizes her reaction to me.

@@andrewreynolds912 It's the Queer Experience problem where cis hetero males tend to struggle to relate and understand. It's the same with Scarlet Witch in the MCU how Gays and Women tend to love her and there's a lot of cis hetero male fans who hate on her and act like her actions are unjustified despite having witnessed all of the trauma that led her to these moments. But people who have known trauma from discrimination for things beyond their control like being LGBTQ, female, not white, mentally ill etc. They find it easier to identify and relate to the trauma and how the character feels/thinks as a result the experience. This is mostly known as the Queer Experience and when characters go through it and refuse to forgive and are "difficult" yet fans still love them It's called Diva Worship. And it's because these characters represent our desire to hurt those who hurt us and get our own back on the world that constantly tore us down in the past. So when we see characters going full villain after their abuse and getting revenge eg: Jinx, Scarlet Witch, Harley Quinn etc. We feel represented and connect on a personal level with them. More privileged people who have had easier lives don't like the characters and struggle to understand having not known that sort of traumatic experience. I'm a trans woman who's mother verbally abused me with her boyfriend for two months until I had to leave home to get away and became homeless for two months. So when I saw Powder trying everything to impress her role model, main family member and most important person in her life and do everything she could to help then that person hit her and shouted at her and called her names that really stick with you I fully felt for her. She was only trying to help and didn't realise she had killed her family right away. I don't know why this person expected Powder to know who Silco was and that he had kidnapped and tried to kill Vander and Vi when she'd never met him before and didn't see what went on in the factory she just sent her bomb in there. But to me it was clear when Powder met Silco she had no idea who he was and just thought he was a kind stranger. She didn't know he knew and had history with Vander until he told her. Xx

jinx doesn't know who silco is, her hugging silco to her is just her hugging someone, anyone, cause she's too emotionally unstable to really think straight. my sister leaves me here alone, this man comes to me, soft spoken, asking me about where my sister went. with everything that's just happened within a snap, probably the instinct to do is cling into someone present. she needed someone, vi was not there, so silco.
also, jinx was originally a harley quinn character, with all of her crazy talk and especially her famous music video "get jinxed". but with this show, they made her crazy girl trope into something more traumatic and realistic. the reason she is what she is is because of what happened to her and not cause she's quirky.

Yall know Milo was shittalking powder so much because he knew that the only reason she hadn't overtaken him in skill yet was her age, and because his lockpicking skills were often mocked (Vi just impatiently kicks the door open and Claggor smacks him in the back of the head. Milo was incredibly selfconcious and he took that out on Powder because she still made a lot of mistakes yet Vi just lets her get away with everything and Claggor doesn't stand up for Milo. When it came down to it and Milo had to free Vander and the reason he folded was because nobody seemed to ever actually need him or care about building his confidence (so he build his own confidence by picking on powder, probably subconsciously hoping to keep her 'small' so she doesn't outgrow him too), and Vander saw that and knew, and told him to calm down, gave him the confidence to succeed under pressure. And finally, FINALLY, his skills are helping, he does something nobody else could have done, he proved his worth! Maybe now he can finally work on putting his insecurities to rest and stop fearing Powder and putting her down every chance he gets! And then he dies. And at least Claggor is instantly knocked out, but Milo is actually given a moment to process what is happening and panic and he is conscious when he is speared and the rocks crush him. I felt sorry for Milo. He wasn't a good kid, he was a bully, yes, but he wasn't evil. He was just another orphan in a dog eat dog world where he slowly had to realize that maybe he is the unstable link in the chain. That maybe he will be abandoned or abused when he is the lowest ranked member, who knows, I mean we don't know what his life was like before Vander. I mean just look at how he freezes up when Vi kicks the door open and that's just one of several moments. Milo has issues and nobody really cares, because that's the kind of world they all live in. Powder has lots of issues too, but she has Vi and Vi never stops showing Powder how much she cares. I wonder what that felt like to a kid like Milo who felt he had to put down a little girl to make himself look better and get any form of attention. He compliments Vi telling her you where twice what Powder is at half her age, he looks up to her, he wants to be seen as competent and useful, playing up his average skills as if fishing for compliments. And Claggor isn't helping, he's more on the quiet side and doesn't really admonish anyone but he does tease Milo about his shooting and losing to Powder and that probably isn't helping his inferiority complex and doesn't make him like Powder any better. She WILL be more useful than him soon enough, and then what? Will he still be needed? THeir skillsets are awfully similar. I dunno man, Milo was a huge dingleberry but I felt very sorry for him. The way his facial expressions and his whole demeanor are animated and the whole way he talks make it easy to find his weakspots if you just focus on him and try to find them. Fuck man, he was just another orphan. Just another kid. Fighting to justify his existence.

wanna get more heartbreak? Milo still loved Powder as a sister. He wanted to see her succeed, but he couldn't say it out loud to keep face. In the shooting ground, he's missing every shot on the targets. When enforcers come in and he's actually threatened, he hits every shot he fires.
The only logical explanation I have for it is that he wanted to give Powder some confidence after the botched up heist, and missing targets was the easiest way to do it without breaking character.

  • @42percenthealth
    @42percenthealth Год назад +33

The thing with Jinx is that she seems to be codependent. When her parents die, she completely relies on Vi for her mental stability. When Vi tells her to stay behind, it 1) confirms her own doubts about her self-worth, and 2) makes her fear that Vi has abandoned her. That's why you see her having what looks like an over-the-top reaction -- it's just a panic attack. She only calms down when she thinks of an excuse to follow them. After the explosion, she clings to the first person who comes along, which is unfortunately Silco. This also explains why she was so quick to turn on Silco when she thought he would betray her. She has trust issues big-time.
Man, that fight scene between Jinx and Ekko literally brought tears to my eyes. The switching back and forth shows that they've had this fight before. But now the stakes are life and death, and Jinx doesn't even know that because mentally she's a child playing with her friend again.

But eventually they didn't want Jinx to just be their clone so they decided to flesh her out and give her things that are unique to her. A lot of league's characters are heavily inspired by other media. Lee Sin is inspired by Bruce Lee, Wukong is inspired by Sun Wukong, Casseopia is pretty much Medusa. Arcane is the closest thing to a perfect season I've ever seen. I can, across the entire 9 episodes, only think of a handful of things that I thought could have been better, but they're so minor it's hardly even worth pointing out because frankly in any other show you wouldn't even notice, it's just Arcane is so close to flawless that the tiniest inconsistencies seem inflated.
    My complaints are;
    - Sky's death (Viktor's assistant) doesn't hit as hard as it could've, she could have used more setup.
    - The music was very good in the show, but sometimes it got a little bit jarring when a mini music video played in a scene. This is barely a negative because I feel like you could just as easily like this as dislike it.
    - The CGI during Vander's final moments (after escaping the building, before he dies, ep 3.) was just a little bit under the absurdly high standard that the show set. Something about Vander's mutated form lying there seemed a little too jarring to me.
That's it. Everything else was perfect. What can you do?

Powder gravitated to Silco because of all the reasons already stated, Vi left her and Silco was the only person to provide comfort when she was at her lowest. But it’s also the fact that Powder is perfectly aware of what Silco did to Vander but she also blames herself for the deaths of Milo and Claggor. So both her and Silco are guilty but she latches onto Silco because he’s the only person who would GET her at the time.
Powder thinks of herself as a monster. She’s the monster who killed her family. The monster who did something so heinous and unforgivable that it would cause Vi to stop loving her and abandon her. What she did was so horrible that nobody would ever accept her or love her again unless they were just as monstrous as she was.
Powder and Silco share the same guilt, so she joined him and just embraced it.
Because it’s all a mixture of her low self worth and her struggling with her identity. In her eyes, she failed at being a person worth loving by regular people and the only person who can love and accept her is someone like Silco. That’s how she sees it.

I shared your gripe with Jinx until I rewatch the series. I realize she was so young back when her parents died and she probably saw some shit that messed her up emotionally. That scene when Vi left her to save Vander and she start freaking out in her room, crying and throwing stuff. That's not a normal response from someone. She has MAJOR childhood trauma and abandonment issues to begin with. So the scene where she instantly grabbed onto Silco when she thinks Vi actually abandoned her start to make a lot of sense for her character.

I don't know why but the use of Leorio's face at one point in here just about killed me. Your editing is fantastic. I think you'd probably benefit from a second watch of the show - knowing the characters a bit better makes it easier to follow their character arcs and motives, and the love they put into those things makes it absolutely worthwhile!
Also, to comment on the suddenness of Powder's connection to Silco, given she's like... 8... forming a trauma bond given what she was going through makes sense. It isn't so much that Silco hugged her - she hugged him first, after all - it's that he accepted her when she felt she'd lost everything else. She's definitely not a character everyone will appreciate or understand, but the depictions of her trauma and the results of her trauma are really well handled and executed.
So glad you gave it a shot!

Loved this video I laughed and got hyped with you big time 🤣. Also a thing about your comments on Vi and Jinx: I understand you didn't click with Jinx that's cool, but she is not a Harley Quinn wannabe in Arcane; in LOL her design was inspired by Harley and so is her crazy manic pixie dream girl persona, but in the show her personality, mannerisms are ways she has to cope with the trauma of her past from losing her parents to her adoptive family, so that comparison doesn't sit right with me NGL. And Vi is a menace indeed 😅she never backs down from a fight and ain't scared of confrontation, but she doesn't attack whoever whenever (majority of the time anyway), she specifically goes to fight people she knows and has had an issue with like Sevika, Silco & company, Decard and so on.

I am such a hard critic, and I will find any reason not to like something, but Arcane being less than 10 out of 10 for anyone makes me respect them less. You can not like the show, everyone's got their preferences, but when you look at objective quality, season 1 was easily a masterpiece. I have never compared anything to Avatar: The Last Airbender, but if Arcane ends with the quality season 1 maintained, ATLA will be replaced, in my mind, as the best piece of media ever produced. The animation, the attention to detail, the character development, I truly never excepted anything to across-the-board compete with ATLA. If season 1 was a fluke, and season 2 and on is garbage, season 1 was still the Mona Lisa of what animated TV can be.
I believe in Fortiche's capability to maintain that reputation, but it will need to be seen whether or not LoL's creators or Netflix decides to intervene and ruin this work of art in seasons to come. My advice to both of the latter: Let Fortiche do their shit. Ekko vs Jinx was one of the best, if not the best, pieces of cinematic history, and that was all Fortiche. Let them take chances, let them do what they do, and Arcane will be everything it was meant to be, and has shown to be so far. That is my advice to the powers that be.

Yeah, Powder has very bad dissociative disorder issues and validation issues along with trauma. The issue was the timing, when she came for validation when she tried to help Vi punched her but the Marcus came to arrest her to isolate Vi from Silco leaving Powder with nobody to calm her severe anxiety. It's shown during the fight scenes and when she is making gadgets and didn't fully hear out the conversation and leaves when she hears something she doesn't like and tries to leave instead of hearing the full thing out to reason. In the end, she killed both father figues who raised her and the same anxiety attack when the first fight happened, occured when Vi and Silco were arguing over her mentally but Silco actually understood she had mental disorders which is why he tried to shoot Vi.

Not to risk any spoilers for you in the future seasons to come, but I have good news about Ekko: He's got all of the plot armor. Arcane is basically a prequel to League of Legends. And Ekko is a champion in the game, sooo...He's safe LOL Basically, anyone who is a champion in the game is safe. It's actually my ONLY gripe with the show. And it is kind of a big one, but not big enough to actually give it any negative points with all the bonuses it gets in writing, art style, animation, voice acting, and literally everything else. If you know the champions, you know who is 100% safe, and who isn't. As an example, the bridge scene. Vi, Caitlyn, Ekko, and Jinx survive the mechanical butterfly explosions, while the entire Enforcer squad is taken out with all their armor...AND Jinx and Ekko both survive the point-blank explosion of her chomper grenade to boot? It's a bit much LOL Also, Jinx's mad tea party...Vi, Jinx, and Caitlyn are all champions. Silco is a new character for Arcane...So who is gonna die? Can't be anyone but Silco. That said, even if I didn't know all this, that scene still has the PERFECT writing to back up the decision. Silco's story is over. His arc is done, and his death is all that can truly seal the deal. Jinx 'killed' her first father figure (Vander), and has now killed her second, and the most prominent parent in her life (Silco). It solidifies her as Jinx, and was the true death of Powder. That show really makes all the deaths count, even if some of the non-fatalities are silly. It is, without a doubt, my all-time favorite show. I cannot wait for November this year...I NEED more

Two notes from the game that will likely become relevant in the future.
1.The Ekko Jinx fight scene is even better than you know. In the future he becomes a time traveler. By pulling out the watch and turning it into a childhood game he’s metaphorically using the same fighting style he will eventually develop without any actual magical abilities.
Madarda isn’t really a hero or a villain. She’s from Noxus which has a completely different set of core values than either Piltover’s or America. To them ambition and strength are positive traits while expansionism and conquest are a way of life. So, while her push for Jayce to weaponize his technology and political scheming may appear as evil from an outside perspective from her culture’s point of view it would be entirely positive and rather admirable.
While Noxus may appear as the stereotypical evil empire on the surface they’re actually rather nuanced and are one of the few truly meritocratic factions with little to no discrimination or restrictive social systems. When conquering a region they don’t just pillage it. Instead they incorporate it into the empire and give everyone a equal footing regardless of previous status. Even a former slave could quickly become a master commander with enough ambition.

Some people and I mean a minority of people did not understand Powder's "switch up" in episode 3 but if you watch the show carefully they have laid out plenty of clues that Powder did have abandonment issues. She also had self-esteem issues and there were plenty of times when the show pointed us to these facts. Vi was the only person that was still comforting her. When she killed everyone trying to help, it validated again that she was useless, a jinx. Vi slapped her hard and called her a jinx, validating what Mylo kept nagging at her for.
She had NEVER met Silco before, all he was for her at that time was a gentle older person coming up at her at a moment of pure weakness and heartbreak. Powder did not realize at the time the danger she was in, she did not see through Silco's fake silky voice there. She simply jumped at him and when Silco told her "it's OK." that was it.
I personally do not understand why a minority of people can't see that switch in a little low self-esteem child with war PTSD who's just been abandonned by her only relative left alive at that point in time. It's very basic humane psychology right there?
You could call it a weird switch up only in the case of her knowing who Silco was and what he planned to do with them. She did not immediately identify him as an enemy trying to kill her whole family.
Maybe you need a second watching to absorb all these. I have watched Arcane several times and I've found new pieces of this masterful story puzzle at every viewing. Would massively recommend it.

11:40 powder has no idea that it was Silco's fault at that time. He was there when powder was most vunerable, and no one else was. Powder gravitated towards Silco because she believed that Vi had just completely abandoned her and disappeared. This is further reinforced when Powder/Jinx does not hear from Vi for such a long time. Along with the knowledge of her own actions killing Vander and her friends (but, honestly, FUCK MILO, HE WAS JUST A BULLY), this fractured her mentality and she needed to attach to someone who could give her security. With no one else left, she turned to Silco.
Heimerdinger was 1000% a hater. He tried to block the progress of Hextech, and wasn't it Heimerdinger who originally got Jayce banished?? Now, we can make the argument that Heimerdinger has PTSD. The moment he saw Hextech, he had a flashback to the Rune Wars or w/e it was.
I love Jinx. Her character is perfect. She's an incredible representation of trauma. There are so many levels to this show.
17:53 - The Stopwatch is a small call-back to his ultimate in-game. The way he turns back time using it.
All in all, I"d give it an 11/10. The plot is fantastic, the worldbuilding is incredible bc you do not need to know anything about the game to enjoy the show, the women in the show have agency, so it's not just up to the men to progress the plot, like honestly there's so much to break down and it's amazing.

I think I put Breaking Bad at the second spot, I'm still not sure about the 3rd spot. But boy oh boy am I 100% sure that Arcane has the first one. I wasn't interested at all in watching it, I have spent my whole game life avoiding League of Legends, and I really even avoided this one.
After Act 1 dropped, my whole Twitter TL exploded. After act 2 dropped, everybody I followed was only talking about this. Decided I was the right time, watch 1 episode a day for a week until Act 3 drops, perfect plan... watched the first episode and I couldn't help myself I watched the 5 other available episodes in the same day. The week long wait till the release of Act 3 was probably one of the longest weeks of my life when it comes to media releases, and even with the massive expectations, it did not dissapoint,
