Then she’s pulled off her silk-finished gown
and put on hose of leather, O!
The ragged, ragged rags about our door,
and she’s off with the raggle-taggle gypsies, O!

It was late that night when the lord came home,
inquirin’ for his lady, O!
The servants cried on ev’ry hand,
“She’s off with the raggle-taggle gypsies, O!”

and go and fetch me my pony, O!
That I may ride and seek my bride
who is gone with the raggle-taggle gypsies, O!”

he rode through wood and copses, too,
until he came to a wide open field,
and there he espied his lady, O!

What makes you leave your money, O?
What makes you leave your own wedded lord
to go off with the raggle-taggle gypsies, O?”

“Well, what care I for my house and land?
What care I for my money, O?
And what care I for my own wedded lord?
I’m off with the raggle-taggle gypsies, O!”
V8.
“Last night you slept on a goose-feather bed,
with the sheet turned down so bravely, O!
But tonight you’ll sleep in a cold open field
in the arms of a raggle-taggle gypsy, O!”
V9.
“Oh, what care I for a goose-feather bed
with the sheet turned down so bravely, O?
Tonight I shall sleep in a cold open field
in the arms of my raggle-taggle gypsy, O!”
Outro: Am G Em Am
Beautiful !!!
So glad to hear this version! This is the one I learned and I had almost thought I had made up the lyrics since they differ from the more popular version of this song.
Great accompaniment with the mandolin
I was looking at what to listen via what the algorithm would give me….. I went look for copper and found GOLD. I have been listening to this the whole way to work and now it’s on my favorites. Can’t wait to check out what else you have!
Ah what a beautiful rendition of this tune! It's a been a favorite of mine for ages. You're an inspiration to every aspiring folk singer
Thanks, Yona!
This is a song I'd never heard before. and I absolutely LOVE it!! Excellent arrangement!
You have a wonderful voice!😍
I'm curious how you came up with and did the harmonies. It's a nut I've never managed to crack.
Hi Yona,
I can't read music, so I just record the main melody then listen back to it multiple times, experimenting as I go. Sometimes they come quickly; other times, it's a real challenge.
