I just learned about Hostas yesterday in an Appalachian video. Evidently, the shoots, leaves, and flowers are all edible and the shoots taste similar to asparagus. Hostas were originally classified in the Lily family, but have recently been reclassified as part of the asparagus family so that makes sense they would taste similar. Several cooking videos are on RUclips now.
I'm in So. Texas so I'm chkg on heat tolerant varieties. There seem to be a few that can handle a warmer climate and more sun.

They are easy to divide, when they are about 3 inches up, or a little higher.

The eggshells at the base is a myth. It’s best to use diatomaceous earth for snails.

I save my shells and grind them down and place under and around plants for snails and slugs plus the benefit of calcium for the plants.

try putting broken up eggs shells around the bottom of the plants.. diatomaceous earth works well too....they won't crawl across either one

Copper rings apparently work well, but I've hand no luck with egg shells. Beer traps are effective, but I have a very excitable dog who loves to try out anything that smells good. I'll be trying the copper rings.
