About the episode at Marcianople: It is perhaps feasible that Fritigern used the opportunity to rid himself of his friend Alavivus with the aid of the Romans. The Romans eliminate a hostile leader and put a (hopefully) more friendly one in the throne, Fritigern sells the idea to the Romans that he'll be pliable later. Saying this mostly because it would not have been the first time a dual-rulership was ended in a conspiracy between one of the rulers and their enemies.
As a fan of Rome/Byzantium these kind of videos are hard to watch. I usually read about these disasters once and move on. However it's important to learn and analyze these battles and compare them. For instance it's important to note that after this battle Rome found it hard to regroup and make an effective resistance against invasions/raids like this one, while during punic wars they suffered much more disastrous defeats and still managed to comeback and win. It only shows the state the empire had fallen to.
There is a staggering 6 centuries between these to battles; roughly the time between today and the end of the medieval period. Evidently, very different societies. Where the vast majority of the army for the past 250 years no longer came from Italy. But instead , from Gaul and the East; demanding direct payments instead of spoils of war.
