Synopsis:
When Jungars from western Mongolia invade Kazakhstan, a mystical warrior named Oraz warns the leader about a child who is destined to unite the Kazakh tribes and overthrow the Jungars. This is one of the most underrated movies of it's time. The cast is outstanding, scenery is tremendously beautiful, costumes and props are outstanding. The story is a great one. Jason Scott Lee's narration is perfect!!!

However: me myself being a Kazakh and all and me having actually worked during when this movie being shot in Kazakhstan, I must say the movie - the final product - deserves exactly what it gets. You simply couldn't put it alongside any other great monumental historic movies out there, like Alexander, Gladiator, etc., not by a stretch. The cast, the acting, many things are second/third-rate despite some of Hollywood's top-rated professionals took part, like the DP's, Ivan Passern, Pyrotechnician Yves Debono. Besides, Jason Scott Lee has been one of my long-time favourites, same as Marc Dacascos. These aren't their best roles TBH. And one only wonders, just WHAT THE ACTUAL HECK were Kuno Becker and Jay Hernandez doing in it, still puzzles me to this day, them all being decent great genuine people off the set and in-between takes all the time we were there.
I am Kazakh born & raised on our native homeland. Thanks to our ancestors our country is the 9th largest in the world even such large neighbors wanted to conquer it all the time! We stood strong.
Amazing movie. It was an absolute hit in Kazakhstan. I have watched it in pure Kazakh.
Keep seeing comments that the main actors are Mexican and Chinese so I wanted to clarify that Kazakhs are true Eurasian in the sense that our people can look all the way between white and Asian, and also Middle Eastern due to our Muslim heritage. Therefore, the main actors can definitely PASS for Kazakhs, and that is why no one in Kazakhstan had a problem with the choice of actors. If you analyze the whole list of the main and secondary actors, half of them are native Kazakhs which is also good.
I liked the film but as a Muslim I found some parts troubling especially the calling upon ancestors and belief that the stars have any affect on destiny because these are all pagan beliefs. Now I’m not talking about tawassul with the Prophet عليه السلام or the Awliyaa because this is bonafide Sunni Islam but I saw the worship of trees and ancestors and these things negate Islam. I suspect it was used to just make the film more interesting to the world incorporating pre held beliefs before Islam but I wanted to ask you what the reality is?
Khazakhs are Sunni and Follow the Hanafi School of Sunni jurisprudence is that correct?
And in Aqeedah which Sunni school do they follow, Ashari,Matureedi or Athari?
With that out the way I also wanted to know if khazakh martial arts are still alive especially horsemanship and Archery? Do they have clubs for the youth to learn?
Also how are Scholars made in your country? Do they go to India, Pakistan where there is a massive chain of Madrasahs all over their country or do they go to Al-Azhar in Egypt,or do you have your own madrasahs and if so where do they trace their scholarship?

@@muhammadbenjuraij7734Kazakhs are majority Sunni Muslims, Hanafi mazhab, Akida Maturidi. Kazakhstani imams often study in Saudi Arabia and Egypt. In Kazakhstan, horse games are popular, but there are no martial arts. Shamanic pre-Islamic traditions exist in all Central Asian countries, but in this film they are exaggerated, Sufism combines shamanism with Islam. But now radical Muslims reject traditions, oppose them, and ordinary people accuse them of Wahhabism.

I hate fighting scenes but am so curious of historical battles and events happened during many centuries ago that was written for historical look back so we know what's been behind us before now.
The movie was so outrageous and fighting scenes were breathtaking.

A wonderful movie that captures the essence of those struggles the peoples of Kazakhstan faced to simply exsist. Facing fierce opposition of tribes far greater in number. They overcame to become one of the largest in the region. The added
" Hollywood " flares serve in introduce the heroes that have in true life, have gone down in history as national icons. Kazakhstan has come a long way since.
Astana its modern capital, is beautiful. The Ishim River runs through the middle of the city like it does in London. You can stil visit places that resemble the grand Canyon, with its vast open areas.

The mystical hero Oraz shows his passion towards the child saved for the future effort with freedom firstly to the child who is destined later on to unite the Kazakh tribes. There is a basic similitude with the story Moses a.s against the pharoah of his time as revealed in the Qur'an by Allah SWT. Alhamdulillah.

The scarf reminded me of Braveheart. The two brothers of Romulus and Ramus. The story is predictable but nevertheless, the shooting sequences are quite good except for a few swords during the battle scenes with no blood on the steel.

As much as I love the Actors playing the main warriors, I don't agree that Hispanic & Euro-Spaniard should have been selected. Sometimes, Mexicans do look Asian, however not Jay Hernandez. There are talented & capable Actors that are like of the ethnic group that are talented. I so pray that in the future, that will be the choice so as to give the movie complete balance.

Beautiful film. In addition, I was born in Kazakhstan. What only bothers me here is the casting. How in the world young Kazakh protagonists transformed into Arabian/Europeans? Kazakh people are very talented and I am sure you could find better talents, which would convey this Turk’s nation, especially Ablai Khan.

To tell a story about this particular Kazakhstan history, the main character should look more like a Mongol. In great movies about Genghis Khan, Mongols were chosen as main characters.

But the swords in the scene of the attack against the child's caravan, 14:38 minute mark, doesn't seem to fit the region known for its curved blades.

Basic question. WHY does the sound keep going silent? What has been done incorrectly in the upload? And, if the cannon were firing a real ball, there would be recoil. That is basic facts/science.
