I just tried this and it saved three entire beds of squash! Zucchini, cucumbers and pumpkin. It was spreading across all my plants and this absolutely took care of it. Thank you!
I had my doubts at first about this solution, but I tried it out because I was desperate. To my surprise, this stuff really works. As soon as I sprayed it on a leaf infested with powdery mildew, poof! It was gone and didn’t come back when the leaf dried. This stuff is a life saver. It’s cheap, simple, and super easy to make. It took 2 minutes to make the solution and it was so easy to apply. To anyone who has their doubts like I did, trust me, it works.
I t works. I made the same strong solution and after two applications, the fungus was gone permanently. Now my weigela is healthy and beautiful again. Thank you.
Wow. My Friend, you are a genius!! You literally just saved my hydrangeas. They look like a different plant within seconds of spraying this!! Thanks you, keep up the great work, and I just subscribed. Thanks for the help
I've just tried this on my 18 young oak trees which I've grown from acorns. They where absolutely covered in Powdery Mildew so it's fingers crossed this formula works, it may mean giving 2 to 3 treatments as the fungus infection was really bad so it's fingers crossed that this works.
500 ml water (strong) or 1 liter 3 tsp baking soda 2 tsp dishwashing liquid soap 1 tsp vegetable oil Shake well before using. Use after sunset, in the cooler part of the day.
Oh my gosh, thank you for putting out this video. We have had such crazy summer weather here in Chicago that suddenly all my zucchini and squash are covered with this powdery mildew. I am going to try this solution tonight.
I love your videos. Quick and to the point. I also love the way you re-use packaging that would normally be recycled - the eclair tray as a propagator was a brilliant idea 😁
You are brilliant. Each and every time that I have an issue which for me is quite often because I'm new at this, I run to your channel. You have just solved my problem. I actually germinated a cherry tree about 6 years ago (it's never grown fruit) but I've loved that tree and mothered it since the beginning but lately I saw what looked like talcum powder on it and the leaves are beginning to rot. It was my first garden project so that tree means the world to me. Thank so much for giving me a solution.
lightly prune branches 10% back to a outward facing bud when that tree in the dormant season (early spring b4 leaves appear you will have fruit within 2 years!
Make sure you only test one leaf over 24 hour period to make sure you've made the mix right. You could end up burning the leaves if you use too much oil.
I had tiny cucumber plants and one day I placed them outside and when I brought the in, one of them had some white spots. I wondered what they were but just shrugged it off. I was this video and was like OH NO! so I quickly made the spray and it worked! Thanks for savings my cucumbers!
I think this is just what I was looking for - powdery mildew on my zinnias. I live in a sub-tropical zone with high summer humidity (Australia). Can’t wait to try it - great tip. Thanks.
YOUR A LIFE SAVER! I'm a first yr gardener and this helped INSTANTLY. I was so relieved. I had almost given up hope in using something natural for my plant after i had used another method that didn't work. THANK YOU SSSSSSSSSSSOOOOOOO MUCH!!!
Yesss it worked my tomato plant had so much powdery mildew I thought I was going to have to throw it out, I tried this recipe at night then in the morning I sprayed 1 part milk 8 parts water when the sun was hitting the plants. I did this because I read that the protein in milk in combination with the sun kills powdery mildew and also I did this just Incase baking soda and oil were still on the leaves I did not want the leaves to turn yellow and die how other people in the comments mentioned, I sprayed the milk 3 different times as the sun was hitting it. And yesss my plants are back and beautiful green with no mildew after one day🙏 thank you so much!!
Thanks so much for this easy, cost free tip.I have mouldy mildew on some succulents.I just finished applying, fingers crossed it helps rid of it.Keep up the amazing help for everyone and happy gardening and lots of love from Australia 🇦🇺 👍
Hey, I just came across this video because I’ve also started getting powdery mildew on my succulents and wanted to try this solution. Was just wondering if it helped yours??
So either some plants are way more sensitive, I did something wrong, or oil is a bad combination to use with indoor LED lighting. I used 1tbsp of baking soda, and a half tbsp of oil and soap in a quart of water. Sprayed it on my smallest plant right after the lights turned off for 6 hours, checked in the morning and its cooked. Looks like someone spray painted it with rust spots, which leads me to believe the oil sat there overnight and still burnt the plant in the morning. I still appreciate the video and certainly don't blame you for my results. I've seen this same recipe is so many places, but apparently it doesn't always work. Glad I tested on a smaller plant!
my tiny garden is enclosed without much air circulation. I get white mildew on my Acanthus Spinosa leaves and honeysuckle at this time of year. I'm going to spray the leaves today, before the flowers start to form. Thank you!
Just tried this 2/3rd strength 2 tsp baking soda , 1 tsp oil , 500ml water and the effect was almost immediate ! Will look again tomorrow but think my zucchini / courgettes are a goner however hope to have saved spaghetti squash , cucumbers, aubergines, and melons. Thanks for this.
Thankyou so much, natural remedies are so much better in my fruit/ veg garden! I did this on plants in the sun, the leaves became damaged. Others in the shade were ok. Should it have been rinsed off after a limited time to help them?
Thank you! I’m trying this on an arrowhead houseplant. I saw another video where they say all you can do is cut away the affected leaves and stems. There would be basically nothing left. I pray she fairs well 🤞 My little plant 🌱
What a lovely guy! I have just discovered your channel and am watching all of your videos. I am into organic 100% and it is so easy to make natural fungicides, etc. Thank you.
Thank you! You may have just saved my cucumber crop! I've got it on all 3 varieties - Whopper, Chicago Pickling, and Dragon's Egg. I may plant some more seeds after I spray, just in case, as I think our season here in US zone 7b might be long enough to start over. Hopefully it's not too far gone and I won't need to replant. Your videos are the best. Thank you for doing what you do.
A few years later and this is a fantastic video with great simple advice for all us amateurs. Can I ask tho how often can I use this on my plants and does the type of plant make a difference to how frequent it's used? Thank you anyways for the help
Thankyou so much…. It is such a simple solution. I have tried this today on my rose plants. How often should I spray this? Should I cut off the affected leaves?
In the town I'm living in we seem to get this every year, it starts with the dandelions around the city then spreads to my garden shortly after. Thanks for the tips, this recipe looks great I will be using it everywhere I can go with it!
I made this treatment using 3c water, 1 tbsp of baking soda and 1/2tsp of eco unscented soap and sprayed it on the zucchini leaves as they were completely covered in the powdery mildew....it worked like a charm! HOWEVER, this evening I went out to water and all the leaves that I sprayed looked like they were burnt...they were brown and shrivelled....Would you say my mixture was too strong??? (in the meantime, I've cut off the dead leaves....many of the leaves are still perfectly fine). PS: love your videos...thank you for helping us!!!
Absolutely! Always test one leaf first for 24 hours. Many things to go wrong with over spraying, too much oil or direct sunshine so always test. I'm glad my videos are helping you :)
Neat, I use 3 Tbs of 3% hydrogen peroxide from the store in a pint (1/2 quart) of water. Spray it on in the eve and the next day nearly 100% green. I have to apply it once a week.
Hydrogen Peroxide isn't really poisonous. You can ingest hydrogen peroxide and people even use it to brush their teeth. The problem is that when it touches raw/delicate tissue, it foams up. So if you drink too much, it will foam up in his esophagus and possibly choke you. So technically it's not really poisonous.
It's an interesting thing, hydrogen peroxide.....H2O2....think about it...H2O is water of course, but HP has an extra oxygen molecule, hence the 2 on the O. So that extra molecule of oxygen attaches to and kills the microbes.... and the byproduct is...water. Trippy.
Hello there , so glad I found you, Please if you could advise me ; my honeysuckle vine has l think mildew , it was so beautiful. But as of late it has been raining and raining and raining. I think maybe that has to be the reason that it’s looking so sick. Can you please tell me how to help it . I’d absolutely appreciate your advice. Thank You.
Brilliant, used this exact formula on sage plant leaves. They have recovered and are much healthy. The only difference Is I used Castile liquid. Thanks
I bought a thalictrum aquilegifolium from Dobbies in Scotland. it's my first season as a gardener. It was fine for a month then it got covered in powdery mildew which has spread to the aquilegia on either side of it. I've tried rose clear and that's not working. I'll give this a go, as the plant looks like it's properly dying now. love your videos.
removing affected leaves can do the job indeed, but in doing so, you risk the plant getting other sorts of infections due to open wounds. he mentioned in the video that this should be done as a last resort and ive seen other videos advocating to remove affected leaves only if there are other, healthy leaves on the same plant, otherwise removing lots of leaves could kill it

love your video thank you but can you consider using measuring utensils rather than a coffee spoon and calling that a teaspoon which is 5ml and that looks like 12 -18 ml each
If its only the old leaves, don't worry that much. If it is mildew, there are always white spots. Otherwise over fertilized, or sun damage. Maybe they are not the healthiest plants, and just lose some leaves, but dont worry if you still have plenty of green parts.
Wait, did you apply this in full sun in the middle of the day? Then they are probably burnt. If they look white-dead, and not the underside of the leaves.
Hopefully it won't next time. Just go easy on the amount of oil you use. Courgette leaves have very delicate hairs on them that you don't want to damage so try some without oil first and if it persists then add small amounts as you go. Always test on one leaf first just incase :)
Can I get your advice on how to treat trees for this? My christmas palm, Japanese fern & mock orange trees all have it all over their trunks & getting rid of the trees is not an option. I won’t be able to reach the length of the entire trees but will do my best. What ratio would you use? I’ll add the dish soap & oil as well. I have a one gallon sprayer
Mike Somewhere was trying to figure out what in the world washing up liquid was & if it was dish soap or what! Add in hard of hearing & it was a little hard to understand what he was saying.
Hi! I stumbled across your channel looking for something to fix this problem I have with my cucumbers plants at the moment. I am going to try this today! I don't know of I have missed it in the video but did you mention how long to wait between sprays? Liked and subscribed! ❤️
I tried this on my dill plant but it seemed to shrivel the leaves but I think that’s because I used Clorox dish soap (probably wasn’t eco-friendly) I’m hoping to try again with Castile soap soon. Any suggestions would be super helpful, thank you 😊
Hi I have a new Goji berry plant and has this. It's only young. About over 1ft high. I read this method could kill some plants and wondered if it would be ok on this plant please? Many thanks
Wow wow wow, really impressed with your results! We’ve had so much rain all my squashes are suffering. I was beginning to think I could loose them as more and more leaves on more plants are being affected. Guess what I’m doing in the morning?
My Howden pumpkins are COVERED in the crap, and it's starting to appear on the fruit. I'll be giving this a try because I really want to save these for Halloween!

@@karmen9514ditto, & it did not work to cut the leaves off at all. In fact, I think he’s right in this video, made it spread and made it worse.

Very informative and interesting. Does it in anyway harm the plant if I remove the affected leaves ?
removing affected leaves can do the job indeed, but in doing so, you risk the plant getting other sorts of infections due to open wounds. he mentioned in the video that this should be done as a last resort and ive seen other videos advocating to remove affected leaves only if there are other, healthy leaves on the same plant, otherwise removing lots of leaves could kill it

Hi I have just seen your wonderful video. Here is a tip for you. I know you use neem oil and I understand neem oil is quite expensive. Perhaps you could use a good vegetable oil instead and add turmeric (neem) powder.
Also i have been trialling something that I read about. Cinnamon powder but only the ceylon cinnamon powder is excellent for preventing damping off of young seedlings. It works wonderfully.
All suggestions correct. I will be making another video on the use of Cinnamon soon :)
Thankyou does it matter what time to spray and does it needs to be wash or water the plant after application?
This definitely happened for my first gardening year.
Never mind. I asked too soon. Thank you for your good information. I hope you're well
Can you spray this on the soil?
Hi can this mixture be use on rose bushes
Going to try this today
Can you plz advise if I could use another oil? If yes which kind
can I first water my plants then apply the solution when it dried? Can I also apply this twicw a day?
love your video thank you but can you consider using measuring utensils rather than a coffee spoon and calling that a teaspoon which is 5ml and that looks like 12 -18 ml each
It doesn't need to be exact. Use rough estimates.
Can this solution damage plant soil or other uninfected plants if it land on them ?
Can I apply this mixture in sunlight for my roses?
You said to pray it 2-3 times, but is this weekly? How often and until when? Thank you.
Can you spray this on the base of the plant? My snake plant has mildew growing there
Is there any suggested frequency of spraying in as one application doesn’t work? Such as everyday or every3 days?
Is it supposed to make your leaves look dry and burnt lookin before they get better? If not there goes my pumpkin patch..
