Johnny Gamester, I love your channels for over 10 years. Every time I see a new video I jump for joy like Moe giving Barney a free beer. Hope you and your family are doing well in AZ.
Sorry, I know I posted already but...The Simpson's Arcade was actually ported to XBLA. Unfortunately, when Disney brought the property they pulled it. I purchased it while it was available but I no longer have it...which is sad.
Many great games, and I don't think anyone's list will ever match anyone else, but that's the fun of list like this, seeing what others make their top pics. Not sure what my top 10 would be, but my number 1 would be "Renegade" from the arcade, as that game to me is just beat up perfection. It's easily the beat'em up I played the most in the arcade, and while not as long as many others, the gameplay for me was top shelf.
Very solid list. You forgot to mention that The Simpsons was also released digitally for the Xbox 360 and PS3, as well as TMNT arcade that was only on Xbox 360 and it's a hidden bonus game that can be unlocked in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Battle Nexus (Xbox, GC, PS2). My list of beat's ups (not counting side scrolling ones like Kung-Fu Master or Vigilante) would include all the ones you chose (minus Battletoads for NES, I prefer the arcade game) but expand it and add: Spider-Man: The Videogame (Arcade), Batman Returns (SNES), Double Dragon Advance (GBA), The Punisher (Arcade), Alien vs. Predator (Arcade), Sengoku (Neo Geo), Arabian Fight (Arcade), Night Slashers (Arcade, Switch), Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death Adder (Arcade), Warrior Blade: Rastan Saga Episode III (Arcade, PS2), Knights of the Round (Arcade, Xbox, PS2, PSP), King of Dragons (Arcade, Xbox, PS2, PSP), and Dungeons & Dragons: Tower of Doom (Arcade, Saturn, PS3, X360).
Gamestar, are you alright brother? I know it's none of my business but you're looking a little under the weather my friend. I have been watching your channel for many years and I'm worried about you man. It goes without saying, another amazing video from one of RUclips's finest. My favorite beat em' ups from the 1980's and 1990's are- 1. Streets of Rage 2 (Gen) 2. Streets of Rage (Gen) 3. Final Fight (Arcade/Sega CD) 4. TMNT: The Arcade (Nes/Arcade) 5. TMNT: Turtle's in Time (Snes/Arcade) 6. Double Dragon (Nes/Play 10/Arcade) 7. Cadillac's and Dinosaurs (Arcade) 8. Die Hard Arcade (Saturn/Arcade) 9. Armored Warriors (Arcade) 10. AVP (Arcade) Addendum- Like you, I was there for the 1990's arcade golden age. I could have easily listed at least 25 beat em' up games but no one wants to read a list that long. Your list is absolutely flawless. ;)
All great picks! In no order target renegade, mighty final fight, the final fight series, streets of rage (all 4!) tmnt 2, double dragon series, alien vs predator, golden axe, X-men arcade & battle toads.
Beat 'Em Ups are my favorite favorite Genre! My most favorites would have to be Battle Toads Double Dragon: The Ultimate Team, King Of Dragons, D&D: Tower Of Doom, Streets Of Rage 2, and Turtles In Time.
The D&D arcade games came so late in the era, I'm not sure it's fair to even put the D&D games on this list, otherwise they both would easily make this top 10 list. I think Gamster81 was going for games that came out between the golden era of beat'em ups from 1985ish to 1995ish where as the D&D games came out quite a few years after those golden age years as a "last hora" of arcade beat'em ups.
X-Men arcade was based on the failed pilot 'Pryde of the X-Men', not the animated series. I really wish there was a game based on the 90s animated series.
Bimmy and Jimmy!! Great vid! I'd love to see another console review, I have fond memories watching all your console reviews from back in the day! Though, I think you already covered like everything haha. You're the best man!!
Final Fight is cool as well as 2 & 3 for the SNES, Cadillacs & Dinosaurs is cool but I also like Battle Circuit, Knights Of The Round, Captain Commando, Night Slashers, Warriors Of Fate, The Punisher, and Alien Vs Predator
My top 10 Beat´em Up games ??? This is a tough one i´m more a fan of Beat Em Up series. The list is: Battletoads (NES) Battletoads in Battlemaniacs (SNES) Battletoads Arcade Battletoads (XBOX) Final Fight 1 - 3 Turtles in Time Streets of Rage 1 - 4 and many more there are so many good Beat´em Up´s i probably forgot some gems.
Great list of beat em ups! Nice to see Die Hard Arcade make a list for once. Gotta say, I'm not too big on the DD arcade games, but the NES and SMS games rock. Cadillacs & Dinosaurs desperately needs an Arcade 1up and/or home port. It's one of my favorite beat em ups!
Love my beat-em-up's. Great to see your list. The late 80's early 90's was the golden age of video games full stop imo. I think the Simpsons arcade game got released on xbla on the 360 but it's long been taken down. My list would include -. Denjin Makai 2 Vendetta Final Fight 3 The Punisher Battle Circuit Double Dragon Advance
Awesome list. Thanks for sharing it. I think mine would be very similar. I've not played Battletoads and I'm not a fan of Golden Axe so I'd probably include Captain Commando and Super Double Dragon. It probably would count but I still regularly play Arkham City just for the beat-em-up single stages. A side-scrolling Batman game using the same mechanics would be awesome and would get my money.
good list but sor 2 and 3 were blah lol and you forgot ninja gaiden and when you did not use a credit after death a saw blade cut through ryu's chest, used to love pplaying it in the arcade now i play it on ps4 5.
A few that probably should have been on this list: I don't know if it can count as a "beat'em up" as you mostly use guns instead of fists but it still was fantastic was Sunset Riders. Sunset Riders was probably the true pentacle of Konami beat'em ups as it had fantastic game play and great graphics. Another beam'em up you can't forget is Warriors of Fate by Capcom, another incredible beat'em up. Also though Golden Axe was OK, the sequel Golden Axe 2 The Revenge of Death Adder was an upgrade to Golden Axe in almost every conceivable way. I just never could get into Golden Axe even when it was brand new, it felt very clunky and difficult to control and play where as Golden Axe 2 seemed far more fluid and playable all around and I played that game to death back in the day where as I rarely ever bothered with the original Golden Axe. Another one you can't forget is Knights of the Round though it's often not on most people's top 10, I'd put it above several on this list though with Sunset riders, Warriors of Fate and Golden Axe 2 on this list, it still may not make it on there.
Simpsons Arcade works awesomely on the NES Classic Edition, and takes up very little space! Also, the game only requires two buttons, so the NES controller is perfect for it.
Great list John! Personally I have the SNES port of Final Fight. Must be the early one because it has Hagar, and Cody with no cooperative multiplayer. Have the Atari VCS/2600, and Nintendo NES ports of Double Dragon. I kind of prefer the Atari VCS/2600 port for having cooperative multiplayer. Have the Nintendo NES port of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles the Arcade Game, and it is a long time favorite. Also have Golden Axe via my AtGames Sega Genesis Flashback, and it is tough as nails.
I like Battletoads and Double Dragon for SNES better than Battletoads for NES. I also like Simpsons arcade, Xmen arcade, turtles arcade, Turtles 3 NES, Double dragon NES, Batman Returns SNES. There are also a lot that I haven't played that I look forward to.
My list will be 1 per series, console games only 1. TMNT 4: Turtles in Time 2. King of Dragons 3. Streets of Rage 4 4. Maximum Carnage 5. Final Fight 3 6. Golden Axe 3 7. Knights of the Round Table 8. Batman Returns 9. Alien Storm 10. Splatterhouse 3
My top 10; 1: Streets of Rage 4 2. Streets of Rage 3. Streets of Rage 2 4. TMNT: Turtles in Time 5. TMNT Arcade 6. The Simpsons 7. Final Fight 3 8. Battletoads & Double Dragon 9. Final Fight 2 10. Streets of Rage 3
Great list i would have to say my favorites would be Simpsons Xmen Bucky Ohare Ninja Baseball Batman spinmasters capatain america and the avengers Final fight Streets of rage 2 Golde. Axe
Wow I got 4 of them my slef The Simsons, X-Men, TMNT and TMNT TIT; All for Dreamcast. I read how alot of these games lost the console planed ports once the SNES CD was caned. That's way The Angry Video Game Nerd can't find Ninja Baseball Batman on any console since the Irem never released the SNES CD game. Thier's more to it them that but's the easy from wording.
ı like game like not all beatem up like platfrom style Altered Beast or last battle style but if ı chose only beatm up strets of rage 1 and golden axe 2. strage 1st game music ı think better. but in my mind never get best game after waitching fist of north star anime. last battle supose licence to be that game but not too good. guys need to explode and have to goes on future. in my kids days ı dont know what is platfrom or whats beatm up and always thinking them action game so streets of rage or golden axe was low games for me compared platfrom games like sonic and rocket knight. ı think it was cheap to send enemyies over and over and not allow to progress beat all enemiyes. in europe of coruse in arcade caddicac and dinasours can seem gold but in home mega drive we never praise beatam ups. ı suprise streets of rage 2 so high list on usa when first saw. games like rocket knight 12 earh worm jim vectorman for eu was so much better and seller than beatm ups even ecco games. its also fact that famliyies dont want to buy game like golden axe and streets of rage bcouse of their covers. naked womens and violance. mortal kombat did good job to put the cover only dragon.
@HECTOR MONTALVO turkey. or general eu out side of england. on offical sega branding also beatump games called action games. there is shootemps genre brand world wide but no beatemup. its more like usa thing. also key 2 game thunder force 3and golden axe 3 not rleased eu. also buy games from enlgand and ıreember vividly there is no streets of rage in top selling stores list. golden axe you can see but no streets of rage.

arcades in late 80s through the mid 90s was greatness.
yes i agree, that was exactly my era and it was just the best

I love The Simpsons arcade game! I'm so glad you included Streets of Rage 2 on your list. I have played Streets of Rage 1 more, but 2 is great too!
Knights of Valour 2 has some beautiful background stages and a huge character select option
The sound effects on the x men arcade were revolutionary too. Loud and booming stereo sound
My #1 has to be Sydney Hunter vs Double Dragon - The sacred Mayan Temple
Very solid list. You forgot to mention that The Simpsons was also released digitally for the Xbox 360 and PS3, as well as TMNT arcade that was only on Xbox 360 and it's a hidden bonus game that can be unlocked in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Battle Nexus (Xbox, GC, PS2). Die Hard reminds me of a ps1 beat em up Fighting Force, really good as well
Interesting but we'll now we'll known fact - fighting force was initially developed to be streets of rage 4
Double Dragon and TMNT. I watched my brother pump $5 in quarters into DD. I remember thinking TMNT was awesome chaos while playing it as a kid.
Gamestar, are you alright brother? I know it's none of my business but you're looking a little under the weather my friend. I have been watching your channel for many years and I'm worried about you man. It goes without saying, another amazing video from one of RUclips's finest.

I'm surprised that Konami's 'Crime Fighters' or Tecmo's Ninja Gaiden wasn't on there. They'd both be on my list.
All great picks! In no order target renegade, mighty final fight, the final fight series, streets of rage (all 4!) tmnt 2, double dragon series, alien vs predator, golden axe, X-men arcade & battle toads.
Great list as well!
Streets of rage 2 is my #1 also. I'm currently playing streets of rage 4 with my son
Great list. Cadis and Dinos deserved to be higher.
Actually Golden Axe was inspired by hyborian fantasy.. think Conan the Barbarian but slightly mixed with other D&D fantasy things.
Beat 'Em Ups are my favorite favorite Genre! My most favorites would have to be Battle Toads Double Dragon: The Ultimate Team, King Of Dragons, D&D: Tower Of Doom, Streets Of Rage 2, and Turtles In Time.

My top 3.
3-Cyborg Justice - Mega Drive.
2-Guardian Heroes - Saturn.
1-Streets of Rage 2 - Mega Drive.
👍🏻
Great list!
@@Gamester81 Yeah leans a little Sega biased lol, but that’s what I grew up on. If pushed would put Golden Axe at 4 and Alien Storm Arcade at 5 👍🏻
For me Streets of Rage 2 was the best beat em up sidescroller, followed by golden axe.
I always loved Renegade

Great list! I would say my favorite is Battletoads 🙂
Great choice. Thanks for watching
Great list bro
Yes! Yes! Yes! You picked the right #1! 😁💯 🏆
Great video!! I think I would swap out Aliens Vs Predator instead of Battle Toads and that would be my list!!👍👍
No Vigilante?
You play as Jimmy & Bimmy
Would the arcade Aliens game count as a beat rm up?

Underrated and lesser known, but very good: NightSlashers by Data East, Ninja Baseball Batman by Kemco, and Violent Storm by Konami.
Streets of Rage 2 THE absolute Best Beat em up i played for the Genesis, Still have it! The Music Soundtrack Fabulous!
Streets of rage remake.
And now streets of rage 4
Inject that stuff in my veins.
spider-man arcade & punisher arcade

Prolly been said but Cadillacs and Dinosaurs is based on an awesome indie black and white comic from the late 80's. Originally called Xenozoic Tales.
