Guy loves his son man. Must be real proud of em. You guys are some good ole boys. Congrayts on that beautiful truck. I got a 97 yukon with a 6.5 in it. Needs a lottta lotta stuff done. Hopefully 2 will be up tonight. Dixie has gotten lazy in her old age. She does not like getting out of bed before 9am. She might go next time when we take the Scouts.
nice video, especially for a frenchie like me, i'd like to buy a chevy k3 ex us army and now i know how this truck handles off road, thanks a lot! (sorry for my poor english ;-) )
Can I ask, do you do any pulling with this truck? If so what gears do you run in the rear end? I pull a small rv trailer with my 6.2 with 4 10 gears and I was wondering if there was a better gear ratio for pulling and highway gears. Thanks
It has 3:73 gears in it now. It had 4:56 gears in it and you couldn't go over 55 with it. It pulls fine with the 3:73. The most we have pulled with it was about 13,000 lbs, so far.
It's a Chinese knock off from eBay. It's a clone of a Holset. Look back at part 2 or 3 of the build, Clay talks about it. He has had good luck with those turbos so far.
I’ve been looking at getting a squarebody for awhile and was originally thinking of getting a 350 engine but I’ve come across a 6.2 diesel that I’m interested in. Any tips or suggestions on what to look out for when buying one?
If you are going to get a 6.2l Detroit you have to understand that it is slow, very slow. Unless you put a lot of money into it and then it is kind of slow. You will either love it or regret ever buying it. It is very good on fuel as long as you are not in a hurry.
@@colemarkley9711 that engine will need to be rebuilt around 200,000 miles. Check the freeze plugs for corrosion, visible on the outside. They are very hard to replace the ones in the back with it in the truck. Other than that if it is running it should be ok unless it has had poor maintenance in which case it wears out quicker than 200,000. It is the better choice over a 6.5l in my opinion. It is a very good engine. If you want to drive the truck at 70mph you will need 3:73 gears, or higher. 4:10 and 4:56 gears don't do well over 55 or 60mph, it causes the engine to run at too high of an RPM.
Matthew Randall thanks for the help! I’ll let you know if I end up buying it and keep up the great content it’s really fun to watch and very hard to find squarebody content on RUclips
@@matthewrandall6320 In my cucv i have injections and turbo from 6.5L and an injection pump underlined. i have no problem pulling 39,5x16,5r16 irock tires.
When you are driving it you can definitely tell when that turbo is working. It has a sweet spot that will just make it coast down the highway with very little effort.
Beautiful truck. That thing sounds as refined as an lb7 with the turbo on it.
It is a very dependable daily driver that gets great fuel mileage. Awesome truck. It is a real head turner when you drive by with that turbo whistling
The 6.2 sounds healthy I've got an 86 M1009 cucv I've had good luck with the 6.2 they're good engines if maintained well.
My truck is a 1982 C20 Silverado 4x4...not a power house....but it seems to last forever...with very little maintenance.....outside of normal.
Can't beat an Ole IDI 6.2L!
please make videos about the 6.2 again very intrested in the speed and driving capabilities
Nice truck

Bad ideal ifn ya put the battery's under the bed thou ! Love them 4" pipes !

Clean truck.
Thanks!
Mine has the 4 shock front suspension, very smooth
Like kids on the playground looking for a puddle to stomp in!
It's like a 300 acre pile of sand and the Tonka trucks got bigger. It was fun!

I can hear the turbo spooling down the highway. Banks, ATS, Chinese knock off?

@@matthewrandall6320 how much boost pressure are you able to get?
@@Dadcam_Can the max so far is 12psi, it stays around 5psi when you are doing 65mph on a flat highway. Without a load.
@@matthewrandall6320 what transmission and rear end ratio? Is that an old CUCV?
@@Dadcam_Can It has the Turbo 400. The rear ends use to have 4:56, they were replaced with 3:73 gears so that it could be driven at highway speeds.

@@Archermboi I agree. It has a great sound, and a lot more power.
Yeah a little more power would be nice in my 6.2 powered k5 blazer, the 6.2 that’s in it is only rated for 135 hp (LOL)

He was going to keep the bed but changed his mind so that he could haul steel on the flat bed, giving easy access with a fork lift.
whats the mpg with that big turbo
21 mpg is what it is currently getting
@Robert Kunze it is not factory. It was an added turbo.
@Robert Kunze the turbo is just a cheap eBay turbo, clone of an HX35W. We used manifolds off of a 6.5.
@Robert Kunze it was worth all the work.👍
