I grew up with Denver. Took him for granted. Musicians that can paint feelings into music like this are rare.

I saw an interview with Annie after John's death. She said he wrote the song after an arguement. John had left their house and went skiing, and the words came to him while on the ski lift. Unfortunately, their marriage did not survive his celebrity and the travel that required. But you could tell from this interview, that even after they had divorced, Annie still felt love for John.

He too still had love for her. If I read this correctly, shortly before the crash he was out of town and they were on the phone together. He told her he loved her, she told him the same and that she’ll see him when he got back.

He was one of the greatest singer/songwriters ever! The world lost one of the greatest human beings who cared so much about the Environment and Wildlife. He is truly missed. Rest in Peace John Denver. You gave the world your gift of song that will last an eternity.

It was a long concert and at one point the band had to take a break due to union rules. During the break he sang a capella. It was amazing. 🎉 Unfortunately he and Annie divorced. Denver wrote this for his wife at the time, Annie Martell, i.e. Annie Denver, after they had a major fight and brief separation. Apparently, Denver wrote the song in 10 minutes while he was riding a ski lift up an Aspen mountain in Colorado, reflecting on how thankful he was they didn't break up.

He stayed with his wife as long as humanly possible, in spite of the fact that there must have been millions of women who would have gladly stayed with him. no matter how often he had to travel for his concerts.
