I did a search for info about distressing and your video answered all of my questions. I have my list...now I need to go shopping :o) Thanks so much! God bless!!!
It's so much fun to see fetus Tim.👶🤗 And his passion has only grown stronger.❤ Wow, 20 years of Distress. What a strong, amazing line of products it has grown into.⭐ I regret that I didn't discover them MUCH sooner.
Yes, that is a Ranger Craft Sheet. They are available in the UK. Check your local scrapbooking/stamping store or do a Google search for "non-stick craft sheet".
I've been watching these vids all morning. Thank you for showing how to use the distress line. I've been eyeing them but not quite sure what to do but now I have more ideas on how to add them to my scrapbooks. Thanks so much!
I so enjoy watching your videos. I like the ease with which you demo techniques. You make them simple and easy to follow. Glad for this refresher; hadn't watched it for a long while. Was referred by Dan99 in the UK, one of the Simon Says DT. He does amazing work with your products! :)
Hey Tim! This is a whole new creative outlet for me! All I can say (which is highly unusual for me) is "WOW! I'm in!" I've just replaced my second and on some my third bottles of alcohol inks that I'm using on my metal work. Thank you so much for those... I just don't know where I would be without access to all of the brilliant colors that you have created. You, my friend, are my Rock Star!Rock On~~~~
I bought 3 distress inks today for the first time I have never done anything with stamps. Lucky for me two of them are the ones you used for the non rinkled one, lucky because It's beautiful:) Anyway the stamps I was able to get where really boring I wish I could get something like what you use here, it's so perfect. Thank you for making this video I had no idea how to use it and it makes me glad I bought it:)
We use manilla tags a lot, but you should be able to use most any type of cardstock. It is the nature of any cardstock that once you wet it, it makes it look distorted or distressed. If you are saying that your stamping is distored after you try these techniques, make sure the cardstock is completely dry before you stamp an image on it. Hope that helps.
@FirstClassThiefRikku It is made by Clover, but unfortunately it has been discontinued. You might try a Google search to see if you can find it somewhere.
Yes, it is normal that it will distort the paper some. You can try to iron it. The manilla is coated, so it is a little more durable after it gets wet.
yes...I think that pad must be really dry...and a real drag since I bought it new. Notice on this video how much moisture there is? Do these things have a 'sell by' date like the supermarket? After awhile, even unopened, do they 'go bad?
@annperper Hi again, A kneaded eraser is a very soft eraser, it comes in a square but when you get it you can roll it into a ball and rub it over a clear stamp before you ink it up. Makes for crisp images. You can get them at craft stores, on ebay and at stationery stores
Also the distress inks react with water in a way that regular water based inks do not by wicking out and creating awesome effects, also if you toss some water droplets on after distressing it lightens the spot where water is for another cool effect :)
@datemenn: There is a difference between Distress Inks and "normal inks." The techniques in the video were created specifically for use with Distress Inks due to their unique properties.
That's unfortunate! Thanks for the speedy reply. Only smaller version I've found is rated very poorly. There is one full-size one available for about $30.00. If anyone has found one they like, I'd love to know.
OMG sooo awesome! lol. its the same sort of style im interested in . Tim your soo cool xD ... where can i get a stamp like the one you have there with ' memories ' on it ? im trying to look for ones like that. x
Hey Tim! Thanks for sharing these lovely techniques...I just bought some Distress Inks and used them on 2-3 types of paper but when I stamp with them, the ink blots and doesn't give a sharp image! Is there some special kind of paper to be used with these inks? Also wanted to know if I can use them for embossing with clear embossing powders on any kind of paper? Many Thanks! Su
@kerrikins59 If you buy a kneaded eraser and run it across your acrylic stamp before adding distress ink it works much better. Distress works best on rubber stamps or sticky acrylic stamps (like basic grey stamps) but if you have a kneaded eraser they generally give a nice stamp after that :D
I recently purchased my first Ranger distress ink from my local Michael's craft store. In the demos I've seen here on RUclips, the ink looks glossy and 'juicey' when the stamps are inked up. When I ink up my stamps, I can barely see the ink on stamp at all and the stamped image is very light on the paper. Do I have lousey technique or is the inkpad dry or defective?
Hi Tim, I noticed in some of your more recent videos that you seem to have adhered your nonstick craft sheet to a piece of plywood or something, so that it stays flat and you can move it around easily. How did you attach it? Could I use Scor-tape, or would that melt underneath when I use my heat tool during projects? Thank you!
I had the same trouble. It is because the tags have a "clay coating" which makes them smoother than regular cs. Where I live our tags are not coated so I had to get the tags from the US lol... :)
Hi i recently went to america on holiday and visited a michaels craft store. I purchased the tea dye distress ink pad by tim holtz. However when i got back home 1 day later I found it was nowhere near as wet as your pad and i was wondering is there something i can put on it to A) soften the pad B) make it more wet I cant really go back to the usa to return it And i was wondering if i hould put water on it. Like 2-3 sprays or not I would really appreciate it if you could answer my question
I know the inks are water-reactive, that's their special quality. Are they permanent once they are dried, like the paints? or would subsequent layers move the dried layer of ink underneath?
Thank you. I use a 240 GR drawing paper and it gets distorted when I "collect" drops of distress ink from the surface. (I hope I am ckear with this question). when the paper gets wet. ever if i dry it with a hit gun... It like i need to iron it :-)
@wannajo24 If you visit our website under tips & techniques you will find a link for fabric-friendly Ranger products. Sorry, I cannot put the link in here. but our website address is rangerinkdotcom
Love these ideas. The only issue I have with Distress Inks is that the stamp pads are NEVER as wet as they are in this video. I don't know if it's because they don't move quickly through our local arts and crafts shops, but it kind of stinks. I'll definitely try these techniques out, though!
I have had the same issue on the mini distress ink pads. Does a person buy a re-inker? Or the refresher spray. It is disappointing though, I love watching the videos and effects that are produced. LOVE IT. I'm new using your awesome products and have quite an inventory built up. I am sending an email also to ask a couple of questions about re-inkers. Thanks for being so inspirational!
In Adult Colouring, can you do this for a background? It'll curl my coloured picture, but with heat, will it straighten out the whole pic again? Also, will the heat change my coloured pencil colours? GREAT VIDEO! Love your videos. So enjoy watching them. I bought some of the spray inks but don't know how to use them for my backgrounds. Hopefully there's a video on how to use them this way...
can you please tell me what the tag is made out of? I used ranger distress ink in the same colours but used stampin up card. The card did not take the ink up like Tim's at all so I wondering if his tags are made of something different?
well.. i've never had an unopened one go dry. but i have had my gold pigment ink pad (Brilliance) go dry, but i didn't store it upside down either - one big key. So I dunno. Could happen if they sat right side up too long on the shelf though, i'm sure. Probably *should* have a sell-by date lol
sounds to me like the inkpad is dry. unless - did you press down the stamp a lot all over pad or only do it once? i'm working on my technique at stamping and sometimes get missed areas on my stamps or even light color since i seem not to pat the pad all over the stamp a lot... so. well. it could be either LOL didn't help, huh? lol
Could anyone tell me why my distress ink beads on clear stamps. I can't get a clear image when I stamp, it looks terrible. Is there anything I can do to stop this.
Tim, what kind of iron (with no holes) are you using, & where do I get one? Also, when your pic is totally dry & you're finished, can I still spray my KRYLON permanent fixative over it all, including the Distress inked background?
Nice little introduction video. Can't believe this was 12 years ago!
LOVE ALL OF "RANGERS" PRODUCTS !!!
TIM, YOU ARE THE CHIP FOOSE OF THE SCRAPBOOKING WORLD
well that was a blast from the past. Came up in my suggested videos. Oh @TimHoltz how far you have come and taken us with you. Well done.
Has it really been 15 years?!! Tim is so young here, almost a kid. Just sharpening my rusty skills again. So good to see the master at work.
Yes, it’s been that long! Glad you enjoyed watching and you’re getting back in the swing again.
Interesting to find this 14 years later , cool
I did a search for info about distressing and your video answered all of my questions. I have my list...now I need to go shopping :o) Thanks so much! God bless!!!

Wow, 20 years of Distress. What a strong, amazing line of products it has grown into.⭐
I regret that I didn't discover them MUCH sooner.
there is a clear stamp version of this - tim holtz lost and found. you get this stamp (maybe slightly smaller) + a few more images besides.
Great video on how to use Distress Ink for art. A huge thanks to Ranger Ink for including captions!
Yes, that is a Ranger Craft Sheet. They are available in the UK. Check your local scrapbooking/stamping store or do a Google search for "non-stick craft sheet".
I LOVE ALL YOUR PRODUCTS, IT'S SO NICE TO HAVE PRODUCT TO WORK WITH THAT FITS MY STYLE OF PAPER CRAFTING.
I've been watching these vids all morning. Thank you for showing how to use the distress line. I've been eyeing them but not quite sure what to do but now I have more ideas on how to add them to my scrapbooks. Thanks so much!
I love your techniques. I am slowly acquiring distress inks and applying the techniques from the videos.

Sarah, I checked it out and added to my "wish list". Thanks so much for remembering and following up.

Excellent video and tutorial - easy to follow. Thank you so much :)
Thanks for posting-I got a lot of new ideas!
You make everything look so EASY!! Wish I had some of your talent! Thanks!
I've tried all these techniques and they are super simple yet very effective.
Thanks for sharing this technique! I really enjoyed watching!
Wow, in love with Tim Holtz!!!
Glad you enjoyed our video. You can find the mat by doing a Google search for "non-stick craft sheet".
Thank you for the info!!! I just ordered a bunch of new colors, looking forward to playing.

must say Im in love..missing my stamping days, but will be using the inks for metal and upcycled plastics. thx

Love your products...
Thanks for this fab video I am off to try some of the techniques myself. I have a
Tim, You always amaze me. Love that rubber stamp! Carlene :>
Thank you so much that was extremely helpful.
I have so many distress inks from you, but must overcome this fear to use them.... thanks for the video!
Yes. You could use a household iron but use a fabric hankerchief to protect both the paper and the iron
You can use a spray fixative on card and paper.
@wannajo24 Distress inks are not permanent, so they may stain certain textiles, but the inks are not washable.
Also the distress inks react with water in a way that regular water based inks do not by wicking out and creating awesome effects, also if you toss some water droplets on after distressing it lightens the spot where water is for another cool effect :)

Seriously cool man!
For these techniques you need the blending foam. The felt is for alcohol ink.
Will give that a go, thank you for the tip :)
@ursuletemail You print on the tags by using a rubber stamp and ink.
That's unfortunate! Thanks for the speedy reply. Only smaller version I've found is rated very poorly. There is one full-size one available for about $30.00. If anyone has found one they like, I'd love to know.
@bakermanswife The tags Tim uses are our Inkssentials Manila Craft tags.
Love your techniques. Good Luck with QVC , cant wait to see you on there !!
Where can you get the mat? web address?
We hope to be back on QVC, but currently there is nothing scheduled.
Thank you, I will give the eraser a try.
OMG sooo awesome! lol. its the same sort of style im interested in . Tim your soo cool xD ... where can i get a stamp like the one you have there with ' memories ' on it ? im trying to look for ones like that. x

@sniggle16 Those are our Inkssentials Mini Misters
The spray is water in the Mini Mister.

amazing. LOVE IT

Hello Tim Holtz, I would like to see the refill staples for my tiny attacher at my local Michaels, but no luck.
Hi i recently went to america on holiday and visited a michaels craft store. I purchased the tea dye distress ink pad by tim holtz.
However when i got back home 1 day later
I found it was nowhere near as wet as your pad and i was wondering is there something i can put on it to

The Distress Inks are not permanent once dried. Subsequent layers of something wet would cause a reaction.
Thank you.

That explains it :-)
Thank you !
what colors is tim using here on the tag - wrinkle free where he put the ink down on the craft sheet?
since this ink is so reactive to water what do you use to seal it?
@gaylalwilson The Inkssentials Blending Tool comes in one size. I sent you a message where you can find them online.
Unfortunately the iron used in the video is no longer made. You can try searching for a travel iron to see if you can find something similar.
can you please tell me what the tag is made out of? I used ranger distress ink in the same colours but used stampin up card. The card did not take the ink up like Tim's at all so I wondering if his tags are made of something different?
Great job Tim with the stamping!!I would love to have that stamp,is it one of yours? TFS,take care!
well.. i've never had an unopened one go dry. but i have had my gold pigment ink pad (Brilliance) go dry, but i didn't store it upside down either - one big key. So I dunno. Could happen if they sat right side up too long on the shelf though, i'm sure. Probably *should* have a sell-by date lol
hi, are you supposed to store the ink pads upside down?
What's the name of the crafting iron? I can't seem to find anything similar to it.
Does anyone know if that's a Ranger craft sheet he's working on? I didn't know they made them. Are they available in the UK?
Hi,
Which kind of cardstock to u use for this project. especially water splashing. My cardstock get wet (naturally) and distorts .:-(
what is a craft sheet and what are they made of?
sounds to me like the inkpad is dry. unless - did you press down the stamp a lot all over pad or only do it once? i'm working on my technique at stamping and sometimes get missed areas on my stamps or even light color since i seem not to pat the pad all over the stamp a lot... so. well. it could be either LOL didn't help, huh? lol
Are the distress inks designed to be blended?
When you iron on the craft sheet--don't you still have to protect your work surface underneath from getting burned?
Judi Bennett His using a heat proof craft sheet

Could anyone tell me why my distress ink beads on clear stamps. I can't get a clear image when I stamp, it looks terrible. Is there anything I can do to stop this.
Does anyone know who makes that craft sheet? Is it a Ranger product?
Tim, what kind of iron (with no holes) are you using, & where do I get one? Also, when your pic is totally dry & you're finished, can I still spray my KRYLON permanent fixative over it all, including the Distress inked background?
Hi Tim, could you tell me the make and name of the stamp you used? Thanks a lot!
how do you print on those tags?
Hi Tim,can we use these inks on canvas and will they be permanent?
What's the spray?
What stamp r u using
Did anyone get an answer as to where you can find the stamp!?
stampers anonymous have it in a small version in the set "mini muse" nr:CMS063
Ok, where did I store my travel iron?? Cool... Of course! :)
is distress ink a stamping ink?
yes
