  • In this video I teach you how to Back Roll on the Rings.
    Learning the Back Roll is a great skill to add to your bodyweight strength game.
    The Back Roll on Rings does come with a few pre-requisites. The false grip, the muscle up and the front roll are all recommended pre-requisites.
    In this video I share the key technique cues, the equipment and some supplementary drills to help you unlock the back roll on rings.
    Let me know in the comments if you have any questions about ring rolls or training on the rings in general!

    i GOT THAT movement after 1 year of training not easy one...
    But in my opinion the timing is key and keep the rings close to the body when you roll, that two points make the exercise, but it requires a lot of time to udnerstand it, but by the way a biceps-destroyer and for "high gymnastic level". Top excercise.

      I agree about the timing. It takes a while to find that but so stoked to hear you unlocked it. Defintely heavy on the biceps but so fun to do!

      I have had elbow tendonitis in the past which I have rehabilitated before working up to these. I've made other videos on the elbow pain and how I overcame it. But these days no pain in the forearms.

    Awesome... Watching closely now 😎 did you say you did the front roll first? That would seem harder to me, not that I've tried it yet. Poor cushion 😭 more box meditation I guess 😢

    • @agrifforama
      @agrifforama  2 года назад +1

      The front roll is considerably easier due to the mechanical advantage it offers over the back roll (you don't need as much strength) but there are no doubt outliers who might disagree with that. Yes I was not happy about my poor cusion!

      @@agrifforama I've got an Afghan rug and a live edge coffee table i'm really fond of, and I'm constantly worried when people put drinks near it, it's horrible being a slave to a possession 😭 the front roll feels really hard to just roll over into, like I'm thinking what will my shoulders do under momentum, I felt like that over the iron cross eccentric though and it was ok.

    Just trying this move today, it seems the one thing I struggle most with is extending the body to get that lever round the ring. I am so tucked, it's ridiculous, removes all momentum

      @@DIYToPen that's a good part of the skill to drill in isolation like that. The box helps to not worry about the finish as much and let's you focus on the extension section. It takes a while to reveal itself but it will happen!

    Hey Aaron, could you describe what's going on between 4:35 to 4:37, from the legs pointing back, inverted torso, I can't figure out the process of getting the legs completely through 180 and the biceps pulling you back up? Is it strongly a Biceps contraction? I've just done session 7 working on backward roll and not much closer but you seem to be able to pause at 4:35 legs pointing back before the initiation of the upswing. My legs never do anything but drop down to the ground. I've been working the pelican transition as I feel that's a relevent move to lock the elbow angle?.... Ok you're saying elbows tight fulcrum over... I keep watching but don't take it all in I guess 😬

    • @agrifforama
      @agrifforama  2 года назад +1

      Its a combination on hip extension (opening the hips) as you pull with the arms and contrast the biceps. The hip opening feels like a small kip in some ways as it helps get the hips high and back so you can get above the rings and then keep those elbows in tight. The timing is tricky at first but you'll get it with practice and also increased conditioning from the RTO dips.

    • @HybridGym
      @HybridGym 2 года назад +1

      @@agrifforama thanks man. I'm going to regress for a few weeks and train the elements; pelicans, RTO dips, kipping etc. I've never been a kipper 🐟 . And I think my Biceps aren't strong enough to lock in the postion, surely for two seconds it's like static bicep curling the entire body around the fulcrum/hub hanging in space by the locked elbows and high hips... Watching again I see the clear anticipation of your elbows returning above the rings, it's very smooth like the whole body is involved in the effort. I'm finding with handstands a lack of belief in balance leads to less balance, the 'belief' in skills seems to be a strong factor in the performance

    • @agrifforama
      @agrifforama  2 года назад +1

      @@HybridGym "extension" of the hips is probably a better way to put it rather than kip. Plus building up the relevant strength as you say. The timing will reveal itself to you....in time. Keep going man!
