It’s a technique I have tried to copy as well. Have a search for Mhairi (?) Hedderwick who illustrates her own books with ink and wash landscapes. I love the effect.
all the students laugh in my ART college course when My professor YELLS at me NO LINES>>>NO LINES>...LOL....he hates the use of any lines around subjecsts...LOLOL ...I love the look of ink lines

I stumbled across ink and wash by accident, when painting along with you, a beginner floral arrangement. I was not happy with how mine turned out, so I outlined everything in ink. After doing a previous one of your ink and wash tutorials and staring gleefully at my painting (and not understanding why I had such an emotional response to it) I realized that my favorite book as a child must have also been ink and wash- “Rain” by Peter Spier.

Ellen, I too love the ink and wash. You asked, a few days ago what we would like to see. Your mini monday madnesses have been such fun. I fire them off to my sisters, who love getting some snail mail. I would enjoy seeing a few of these in series, for example, this cottage in winter and fall and spring. Or our christmas teddy in easter and summer. Tryptychs (sp?) The garden tools in a trio. The winter landscapes in spring and fall. :)
I do minis every now & then they were not getting views like they used to.

Ellen! This is so timely...I want to paint my best friends' house next door because they moved out of state. As a beginner watercolorist, I wasn't sure how to approach it, but you gave me the inspiration I needed. It's perfect. Question: There's a big tree covering a third of the house in the front. I wonder if I should include it or leave it out?

It's good to try different things.
I have another suggestion I want to throw out there. I think you're past this age with your kiddos but I saw a friend do this and thought it was brilliant. She illustrated with line and wash her kiddos bedroom before they upgraded it for her little one growing up. A way to freeze in time a memory of childhood bedrooms. Or I would even be interested in seeing a living room/ kitchen/ inside a coffee shop maybe illustrated? Just a thought/suggestion :) thanks again!

I've never had bleeding with Micron pens. Obviously let them dry before adding water over....
I'd use Pitt pens, not sharpies if I didn't use micron. Matter of taste I think.
Good to know mine always bleed! 🤷🏻♀️
I love ink and wash. But then, I always enjoy your tutorials. I live in MA and would love to go to any workshops you are putting on. I would’ve loved to have gone to the one in France but it just was not possible. Do you ever do them close to your home?

Plus since they are alcohol based, if you need to get them off of something you can usually use rubbing alcohol to remove it. Like water, the marks are removable with the base they are made in!! I never worry about writing on jars or something with them because I can relabel them. Plastic, glass, ever wood sometimes although the grain makes it more difficult!
