    Trode was 100% correct about Rylus. If Rylus spent less time on an elixir and more time on teaching Dhoulmagus simple, but useful magic that would tide him over until the elixir was completed, such a mess would not have happened.

    Spending years doing nothing but cleaning and feeling like a servant makes Dhoulmagus' desperation to learn magic acceptable. He'd been taken in by a great magician, but spent years learning nothing. He probably felt cheated. Rylus probably should have told him earlier that his work was to help awaken Dhoulmagus' potential. That might have avoided their falling out.

    • @Flaris
      @Flaris 6 лет назад +49

      No doubt a lot of this rests on Rylus. It was downright irresponsible to spend years with Dhoumagus and not tell him a darn thing. Years that he was working on that elixir and he didn't think it would be a good idea to let his apprentice know that?

      FlareKnight That's what happens when someone perceives their actions to be above explanation and for the best. That doesn't work for everybody and sometimes you have to come clean about what you're doing. Rylus' words and actions were the direct catalyst for not only his own death but many others.

      I don't feel like Rylus would have taught him anything at all. It seemed more like he abused him as a cheap slave. In a way, I feel bad for Dhoulmagus after seeing this but then not really at the same time. He's like a lot of people you encounter in this game, not necessarily a bad guy but moreso an asshole at times, especially when it came to tricking people. Still, I don't blame him especially when Rylus treated him the way he did. Unfortunate for both of them in the end when Rylus tried to mend things and even had something for Dhoulmagus' magical capabilities.

    • @berzerkersteel2129
      @berzerkersteel2129 7 лет назад +14

      Although the way he treated him was in fact because of the very nature of Sages, to work on something until they finish the project, but if he had explained the reason he was busy instead of treating his apprentice as just a slave it might have ended differently.

  • @maxmolemen7786

    It’s all Rylus’s fault for his negligence

  • @humanstandssans2484
    @humanstandssans2484 4 года назад +15

    On the one hand, Dhoulmagus felt cheated, as if he were being just abused, used for nothing more than cheap labor. Rhylus was too focused on his own works to consider the reality of his apprentice. Perhaps he could have explained to the boy "I need to understand this formula for..." and then explained why he would spend so much time. A sage like him probably spends months, YEARS probably developing new formulas for magic and the like.
    On the OTHER hand, Dhoulmagus should not have been so cocksure. Perhaps the reason why his master took so long, made him take so many chores was to teach him that sometimes, you have to take time, to learn the power of patience. That magic is not the cure to all ills, nor is the savior for everything. Yes, the staff probably would let you summon magic of all kinds... but at what cost? Your soul? The soul of everyone around you? Corrupted into becoming a demon? What about other magics? What if you cast a fire spell and it rages out of your grasp? What if there was more danger than just meets the eye?
    Both sides have a point... but in the end, who can know.

    • @lpallad1
      @lpallad1 6 месяцев назад +1

      Technically Dhoulmagus waited for years (not weeks or months, but years) without receiving any teaching and without learning anything believing he was simply at a standstill, and then he really didn't know what would happen to him if he took the scepter. He only thought it was a weapon that would give him immense powers and nothing else.

  • @pokemontrainerelio3648
    @pokemontrainerelio3648 3 года назад +8

    I do feel bad for Dhoulmagus, as he was treated like nothing more than a slave and Rylus NEVER taught him simple, yet wholly helpful magic (this could have made Dhoulmagus happy and allowed Rylus to work on the elixir in peace).
    Also, when it comes to reading about the scepter, I can see Dhoulmagus not reading the fine print and going like a bull at a gate due to excitement of unlocking powers beyond belief. But, when he tricked the guard and blinded him, I must say, that was out of pocket and proof of bad intentions.

    His past personality is wonderful. The weak point of this scene is the timing. It should have taken years for dhoulmagus to decide what to do with the sceptre. If he really was a good and simple person, it should have taken years to process that goodness into rage, and that rage into action, and that action into lust for power.

    • @QuickSilverKitsune
      @QuickSilverKitsune 5 лет назад +17

      Except that rage was still there deep down, slowly growing over the years of Rylus seemingly taking advantage of his desire to learn magic to get a servant.
      Imagine you had a lifelong dream that someone promised to help you fulfill, but seemingly did nothing to actually help you take steps to fulfill that dream, and had you doing chores every day; then, you discover an artifact that will supposedly help you fulfill that dream. Most people are going to leap at that chance, and remember, Dhoulmagus doesn't kill the guard protecting the stairway to the scepter, so while he desperately wanted to be a true Mage, he didn't want it badly enough at that point to kill. However, before going much farther into that, we have to remember that, through game dialogue and context clues, not only is Dhoulmagus unable to properly deal with all that magic power from the staff(Rhapthorne's) being inside of him, but he doesn't have Marcello's stubbornness to resist the staff, allowing Rhapthorne to possess him; also remember what happens to his body after he's beaten; unlike with Sir Leoplold, his body straight up disintegrates, no corpse left behind; it's entirely possible that somewhere between Dhoulmagus getting the staff, and your final confrontation with him, Dhoulmagus dies, Rhapthorne's will and magic being the only thing driving his corpse along

    I'm sorry but unlike the rest of the comments I cannot forgive doulmagus he was a grown adult, not a child.
    He as a magician's apprentice 100% knew magic was dangerous his teacher told him he wasn't ready and everything that happend was all on him.

    • @AlphaSorrow
      @AlphaSorrow 6 месяцев назад +1

      He rushed into magic rather then learning it slowly.

      While it is a very sad backstory, it does NOT make amends for all that he has done.
      Doumagus was in the wrong and his teacher should have kept a closer eye on him.

      @lpallad1 6 месяцев назад +1

    Wow...I came here to see what was the difference between ps2 and 3ds version of dq8. What's this scene ? Firstly it is really bad, the dialogues are empty and for me it just breaks the evil figure of Dhoulmagus, what's the point of making it a dull tragedy ? Is this a fantasy rpg with some mystery or a soap opera where "everyone has his reasons and everything is understandable". It's easy to see that this scene was not made by the same people or with the same intent than those who made the first version.
    This scene is just shit, it has nothing to do with the game. I'm gonna see the other differences between the 2 versions but this start is really bad. I pity those who discovered the story on 3ds, ps2 was much more credible and less naive I think.
    I am truly disappointed.
