It's pretty crazy going back and looking at even iconic franchises and seeing the sequels often being the black sheep in the franchises Super Mario Bros 2 Zelda II Dark Souls 2 Final Fantasy 2 DMC 2 Prince of Persia: Warrior Within Animal Crossing: City Folk This is why I say companies and even fans give up on franchises too soon. One experimental failure or misstep in a franchise doesn't mean a developer can't learn from it and make a better game in the future. I'd argue some of the best games in these iconic franchises came AFTER those failures.
This is true. I hear so many people talk about how Mario 3 is one of the best, DMC 3 is always the one I get recommended with people telling me to skip 1 as well as 2, and if the 3rd Zelda is the one I think it is (Link's Awakening?) Then that's another one held in high regard. Like anything that came after no matter how long, but even the immediate next entries after the "worst"
I couldn’t really grasp what could mean to be a lesser game than the original, but be more fun to play…. Until you mentioned Ninja Gaiden 2. Yeah, yeah… now I get it.
Being a Xenoblade Chronicles 2 fan from the get go was a weird experience. If you were there for the first year, people were trashing the game for the character designs (which did have some pretty bad choices), and the voice directing(Rex's battle cry being the biggest example). The characters had long arcs that some wouldn't have payoffs until the final 25 percent of the story, and if you're not willing to make the investment into these long playtimes that the Xenoblade games are known for, then the characters are not going to feel satisfying to be with. After having played through all of them (X not included yet), I can say that Xenoblade Chronicles 2 had my favorite story and characters, and 3 had the best gameplay in my eyes. To me the cast of 1 had a more easy to digest story, and thus easier to quickly like, while 2 and beyond had to be a full course to be completed, if that makes sense. It's the story of these games, it's characters, the music, and the gameplay that keeps getting better and better that makes me a XenoFan for life.
I love this post, thank you! I couldn’t agree more, Xenoblade 2’s redemption arch needs to be studied lol. Even Rex, I’m sure you remember how much people hated him compared to Shulk, then by the end of the game he really won people over. Then by Xenoblade 3s dlc, he became everyone’s favourite character from the series lol. You’re in for an absolute treat with Chronicles X, loved that game. Thanks again!
I respect the opinion on Xenoblade 2, but even the combat, does not gel with me. If I have one thing to say that 2 does better than any other Xenoblade game, it’s the soundtrack. They knocked it out of the park. Totally agree with your opinion on Zelda.
I think Xenoblade 2 is the most replayable Xenoblade game. I replayed it recently but skipping all the cutscenes to just do fights, and it was fun getting random rare Blades for each party member and trying to synergize them together. It does not require a lot of grinding if you already have the DLC with all the legendary crystals they give you. Doing fusion combos is still just as fun as ever.
You may have just given me an idea for another list “video games that are better when you skip all the cutscenes” haha. Seriously though you’re bang on - its replay value is great because of the blades and all the synergy between party members. I also should have mentioned how awesome the Torna DLC was and how OP Jin was lol
40% of the difficuly for some people in Ninja Gaiden games was the camera. If the camera was halfway decent it would be one of the greatest games of all time
Pure facts lol. Even in part two where the enemies would do their self destruct attack off camera and still grab you lol. Have you played devil may cry 5? If not, in that game if enemies are off camera they won’t attack you.
Tears of the kingdom is 10000000x better than beta of the wild. It also had an actual story and satisfying conclusion. Honestly Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is easily the worst. Same with NG3 that’s the worst entry.
Brother how did you think of beta of the wild lmao. And yeah NG3 was absolute garbage - don’t even know what they were thinking…they did release another version of it called razors edge but it still wasn’t the same level of the old games. Still fun though
@ Hehe it just felt that way since release. I remember when Breath of the wild dropped it was full of glitches and as much as I enjoyed the atmosphere, mood, temples, and very little story there was it felt empty and rushed. Most of the game felt like a waste of time. Tears though feels like a straight up complete game. Yes, I agree Razors Edge tried to fix the mess out of NG3 and I did find it fun, but it lacked the quality and thought that NG/B/S1 had and never capture the fun fast paced nature of OG NG2. Maybe even NGS2. Truly sad. I agree NG2 might have lacked polish in some areas but man is it still amazing!
Haha that’s dope, let’s goooo! Thanks a lot 🙏🏾 my dad likes to be in videos as well from time to time so you might get to Bhai’s/pajis for the price of one!
Original RE4 was really bad for the Survival Horror genre. It changed it and not in a good way. Pretty killed the genre in fact. Story was really really bad as well. It’s a great game but it did more harm than good for the genre.
I totally get what you’re saying - and you’re right it really did spark the “action horror” genre, which isn’t even scary if we’re being honest. At least we got games like Dead Space after to fill the void a bit! Great post!

Haha thanks. The answer to all of life’s questions is Ninja Gaiden 2!
Great topic! My pick for this? Mega Man X2. Objectively, X1 is a better game, but I find X2 to be much more fun to replay over and over.
That’s an amazing choice! Love the X series and even though I agree that X is objectively the best - I’d still play 2 or 3 over it today. Cheers!

1:18 That is actually epic!
It was sick, can’t take credit though. The original uploader is in the description. That game just oozes style

Thanks for the comment. I feel you on that as well. One of my friends just can’t get into Xenoblade 2 no matter how much I simp for it.

RUclips algorithm sent me a Singh who makes video game content. Subbed bhai 🙏

TotK’s building mechanics ruin the atmosphere that was so good in BotW. Fun but overall, weaker game.
Actually is you want a better Xenoblade Chronicles 2, play Torna. It has a much better story and the combat was refined to a T.
I keep hoping JSRF gets rereleased
100% man! I’m sure it’s just a licensing nightmare now but I’d love for it to happen. I think we all would…
