Really, really good point about that. I actually thought it was going to be set in some kinda small town in the States when I first heard about it but NO! What's the point of the remake indeed. Great to hear you talking in your native tongue. You should do more videos like this because it helps me remember some the Swedish I have learnt and also just because its kinda cool, people shouldn't expect everyone to talk english. Thanks much for an amazing video as always. Keep up the good work.

@huid7 They never spoke entire senctences but there was the occasional greeting phrase in Swedish is I recall - like saying "Hej" instead of "Hello" and such.
@superpug666 was these movies shown dubbed in Quebec French?
The Air Castle That Exploded is a really cool title, but glad they changed it for the international market, otherwise certain audiences would think it was a Studio Ghibli/Anime movie.
@KiddoBeastPro Ingmar Bergman is actually more well known in the US than in Sweden, some of his movies are available on DVD in the US and the UK but not in Sweden
@discjunkietv actually there has been, in the 1930's they showed some American hollywood movies dubbed in Swedish, but it was to expensive so they stopped doing it and subtitling was much cheaper, and since then, Swedes got used to subtitles. And there has been some in later years also, like the German/Swedish crime drama series Kommissarien och havet for example, the series has a 90% German cast, all German actors are dubbed in Swedish in the Swedish release
@Armandthevampire i just read in the newspapers that Star Wars is now going to be shown dubbed in Swedish in the theatres

@criticnic Yeah I know, I generalize saying it's an American cast - I meant it's an all english cast (or atleast most of it).
@Bobthesub English subtitles are pretty hit or miss here - some have it some don't but it's definetly not uncommon to see movies subtitled only with the scandinavian languages. I guess it differs a lot depending on what company releases it. Hopefully more companies will begin to add english as a standard over time.

I was wondering what you thought of Fincher's movie! Awesome review on the boxset and Fincher's pointless remake. Agree with what you said, 100%! Swedish forever. :)

Gillar också den svenska versionen och har ju också Fincher som en favorit. Men vågar fan inte se den här remaken, hatar den lite redan på förhand. Vilket inte känns så kul. Men ja, får väl se fanskapet någon gång.
@KiddoBeastPro English is their native language. Europeans always watch their movies with subtitles. For sure, there are people who can watch their english language movies without subtitles, but still. And from what i've understood, Americans don't really watch that many "non-English" movies.
@vaultkeeper2 That's true! It's actually really odd. But it's just cause it's focused towards kids I guess - trying to get the new "lego generation" hooked on the films as well. I hate to see them do the same for the latter parts of the franchise but who knows... We might have some dark times ahead of us. It's really quite an unusual situation, I don't think we ever had a non-kids-movie dubbed to Swedish in the cinema.... ever. :-1
@Armandthevampire I heard something about Dolph Lundgren being considered for the role of Niederman in the American sequels actually... which is actually not a bad idea.
just a note, hardly any of the cast of David Fincher's version are American. Great vid though, while I like both versions of the first film...I do absolutely love the Swedish version and Noomi's performance, would love to get a hold of this version.

@discjunkietv And I just realized that was the worst example ever as "Hej" could just has well have been "Hey"... but you see what I mean (I don't remember exactly what the word was, I just remember I found it odd).
@Armandthevampire I didn't say Hollywood made the most movies, I said it makes the most POPULAR movies. This can be proven just by looking at global box office reports. Just look around at most of the European dvd collectors on youtube, you'll notice most of the movies they own are American movies. And no, many European theaters (it varies country to country) dub films into their respective languages, something US theaters almost never do.
@KiddoBeastPro I'm sure there are. But still, most of you would propably rather watch something without subtitles.

Stereotypical and I also thought they were gonna cast him for the swedish versions.
Then again thats probably the only role he could do slightly convincingly.

This look so much better than the UK version and Ive had bought it in a flash as I enjoyed the 'theatrical cuts' but with no English subs, its a big fail on the part of the company releasing it. Is it common for Swedish language releases not to have English subs or is this a fault of this release? ...Ive not seen the remake but Im curious to see what Fincher did with the story...
@cassopeia16 I translated it from "Riktigt Jävla Snygg" although I guess "Jävla" originates from the Swedish word for "Devil" so a proper translation would be something like "Damn beautiful" rather than "fucking beatiful". But I went for the feeling rather than word for word. The word "snygg" is also more like "good looking". Plus, the word "fuck" isn't used for swearing in Swedish. If someone actually said "Really fucking beautiful" in Swedish he or she would sound like an idiot.
Haha nice review! I also thought in makiung a review in German for a german movie with subtitles. Concerning the Fincher version and the original I totally agree that the original one is much better. I read the books and I saw both versions of the film....why the hell did Fincher include a "love story"between Mikael Blomkvis and Lisbeth Salander....I think that this was one of his worst films he made! Anyway great review ! As always thumbs up!

@Armandthevampire Sorry, I misread the part about most. Yes, no doubt the most popular are Hollywood. In Sweden, the only movies that gets dubbed are kiddy movies, that arent able to read quick enough to read subtitles. Otherwise we always subs.

@blurayffan66 I never understood that. Do they have a hard time reading or? Nor do I understand why people would rather watch dubbed movies. (people from countries that does dubbing) Its so terrible watching a good movie voiced by some german or russian. kinda takes the original feel outta the movie. Plus, how can you tell if the acting is good, if its voiced by a another guy nobody heard off?

@Rambokala Like I said, this is an unfair stereotype of Americans. There are plenty of Americans who are very familiar with non-English speaking movies. Indeed, I'm an American and can off the top of my head name more facts about someone like Ingmar Bergman than the average Swede I met while living in Stockholm. Yes, some Americans can be very insular, but not as much as Europeans often stereotype us as being.

That fact that most Americans watch mostly American films makes them really no different than the rest of the movie watching world. On the other hand, when Americans watch non-English speaking movies they almost always watch them with subtitles, which is more than a lot of European people can claim.
