Exploring the MEGA65 and programming BASIC65 is more fun with a ring-bound manual than with PDFs on a notebook or EBook. The haptic feeling is important!
I can't bring myself to pull the trigger and get a Mega65 (probably because it would likely sit unused next to my MiSTer Multisystem and others), but I do really enjoy the info you've been sharing about it. Thanks!
You can live vicariously with me through my journey. Don't forget, there's also the XEMU emulator if you'd like to plunk around with it. Thanks for watching!
Will be following the series as so far since getting the computer and coming from the ZX Spectrum Next... I haven't found a use for it. Ordered the reprint of the manual and received but not attempted and update yet of it. The reprint came but somehow was printed twice within coil spine so can make notes on one half :)
Well, regarding the binding, that's a happy surprise. Thanks for watching and hope you enjoy the series. Chapter 2 is in the edit process. B-Roll this weekend.
I believe so but you might post in the Discord just to make sure. I seem to remember them stating that they wanted everyone in this batch to have access to the original manual.
@@retroCombs Thanks, I checked and they're actually just getting rid of the old manuals while they still have them. A bit disappointing really. I've ordered a new one from Lulu.
I buy a lot of retro computing gizmos-Ultimate 64, ZX Spectrum Next, etc, and many of them were expensive. But so far all of them combined cost less than a Mega 65. I just can’t get there. Who knows-maybe a walk-through of the manual will explain to me why the cost is justified.
I understand. It's not a cheap investment. Please do hang around. As we get into later chapters, it might entice you. Thanks for the comment and for watching.
Is the mega65 still worth it , is the community still growing etc. I am hesitating of buying one because of the high price if the community is dying , i have the n-go( spectrum next Clone)
Great question. I'm livestreaming a little later today (ruclips.net/user/liveUee2SRBVn7A?si=AtGF8tyR0g2YK5Yq) and many from the community are planning to join. Their Discord is still abuzz with activity and the software and hardware continues to develop. The Community is what has made this a great value.
Pure fun, thank you!! The new manual indeed is a beauty. I like the glossy yet dark cover.
I'm really enjoying it and can't wait for chapter two.
I ordered my Mega65 half a year ago, and I appreciate the contribution and infos you share for this project - thx & cheers from Germany :-)
By the time you get your MEGA≡65, we should be around chapter three or four. Just want you'll need to get started.
Oh, and thanks for the kind words.

I agree, but when my manual is not available, I love marking up the document on my Kindle Scribe.

Good stuff. Looks like more quality docs from those folks and nice intro walkthrough!
They did a really good job on the documentation for the MEGA≡65. The Compendium is an absolute wealth of information.
Looking forward to the walk-through. I spend hours today going through the BASIC 65 appendix. So excited for June!!
Glad you are along for the journey. Have you seen this collaboration video between me and Gurce?

@@retroCombsI have and and showed it to my son as well. It's a great concept.
Awesome. We are considering a follow up.

I just received my 2024 Mega65 and it came with the V1 manual, not the V2 - is that expected please?

@@bluein2red423 I thought that might be the case. Thanks for reporting back!
I just received mine with v1 still… disappointing as I told them I would be willing to wait for v2 before shipping…
@@zgolkarI'm not sure they've had a run of V2 books. Do you plan to purchase a V2 and there's always the free PDF download.
