That is true. I believe Mao was the Chinese floor champion which was why they did what they did. What was crazy was her qualification performance was really bad- but they had no way of knowing she’d have trouble again. Hindsight is 20/20 I suppose.
@@saragrant9749Mao Yi honestly didn’t hit a single floor routine in either Rio or Glasgow the year before at worlds. Great potential but she was wildly inconsistent. I’m sad she broke her femur months after these games she could’ve gone soooo much farther
@@Ajay.Plants oh gosh I remember that- 2018 American Cup. Just the worst sounding and looking moment. It was truly impressive to see that she did actually come back and try for the 2021 team- that took a lot of courage and determination. Glasgow and Rio were tough to see, especially given how she did at her own nationals. Much like a few others over the years, she just never seemed to handle that kind of pressure as well as expected.
@@saragrant9749 I think part of it is china doesn’t go to a whole lot of smaller international competitions regularly. They compete often within their home country, send a few gymnasts to world cups here and there, but only really focus on national competitions and worlds/olympics. They don’t get enough experience. Same with North Korea. You see the mass amount of potential, but they don’t ever leave except for worlds and Olympics.
I totally forgot she had done BB and FX in the last quad. Was she injured after 2016? Why did she stop progressing the other events? She kinda reminds me of He Kexin that way, being super strong on 1 event that the other events get overshadowed. When I see Fan or He on FX, I'm always pleasantly surprised, they both are expressive and seem to enjoy performing FX.
Her knee(ACL) got injured when training dismount on bb in 2018. She didn’t decide take an operation before Tokyo 2020 so she only trained ub. That’s why she didn’t even went to the Asian games.
A repeat of this performance in the team final instead of going for broke with Mao Yi would have given them the team Silver.

@@Ajay.Plants definitely don’t disagree there.

They should’ve used her on floor in the team final
i love this music!!!
1:04 Look who's on vault :)
Hong Un Jong?
@@nathan10120 sí
Si ella hubiera competido en la final de equipos en suelo, china se hubiera llevado la medallas de bronce sin dudas
si, su dificultas no era mucho pero ella lo hizo mucho mas limpio que mao yi
1:30-1:32 i find it funny how she is all smiling one second then suddenly have a poker face a moment later. Lol
0:19 I loved how her opening pass was well timed with the music. It was cool
Cool
Si la hubieran puesto a ella en suelo en la final por equipos en lugar de mao yi, la historia hubiese sido otra
igual estuviese rudo debido a la caida de shang chunsong en barras pero si hubiese sido mejor
What was her d score
5.4
On her 12th birthday, too!
