@luvalcal I was on a CD I borrowed from a friend. I had to call him and ask. It's from a CD called "Flutes & Strings of the Andes - Native Musicians from the Altiplano" The particular track name was "Wawa Pampay", and was a ceremonial infant burial song. I've searched youtube, and there are a few titles with that name, but not the version I heard, which was played with string instruments only. Hope that helps.
@thebbeenn That is quite relative...what we are listening to is an arragement for a stereotyped "Andean Music" ensemble (quintet of panpipes, flutes, guitar, charango & drum) that have "popularized" music BASED in original Andean melodies...the original music of this dance is almost no longer practiced and it was made with rustic flutes and drums (and believe me, it sounded REALLY REALLY "ethnic", rough and not suitable to western ears) or is performed by brass bands...just a footnote...

The brass band version of this song sounds terrible, and it doesn't seem to matter how well it's performed as long as the rhythm is maintained... somewhat. But I have also heard Andean music unaltered and unadapted. I'm still surprised how palatable their music is to our Western ears compared to other ethnic music. I remember a ceremonial tune (bureal) and it sounded sweet and melodious. I was unable to find a video though.

Beautiful music. I think it is remarkable how melodious and "sweet" the ancient folkmusic of the South Americas are. Usually, ethnic music is really harsh and not very listenable by our modern standards. Truly beautiful harmonies and etherial sounds. Thank you for posting this

@thebbeenn Ok, I think I've listened to the CD tracks you mentioned but Im not sure if it's the version you described as sweet and melodious (please correct me if this isn't the CD you're refering to). Track 3 is "Wawa Pampay" and I found also track 6 "Entierro de Wawa" (translates as "Child's burial") . In both I find a very vivid huayno tempo of charango only (#6 has some whistling too)...so, not sure is the one...the wawapampay I remember is mostly from Ayacucho played by harp and violin...
Saludos la llamerada viene del aimara Qharwanis asi que la danza es aimara no peruana ni boliviana, se les decia qharwanis a quienes arreaban llamas en el altiplano. La diferencia actual es que en Peru se baila mucho mas movido y rapido lo cual se hace sacrificando el ritmo y la coreografia, en Bolivia se baila mucho mas lento pero la danza encaja perfectamente con la musica, cada cual con su estilo. Por favor no digan que la danza tiene origen en Peru o en Bolivia porque su origen es aimara.

Couldn't it be that the music tradition originated from both countries even before they got their modern names? Otherwise, I understand it really matters to both Peruvians and Bolivians, but to me it's just beautiful music. Nationality comes second. We are all richer that culture like this lives on.
