  • Geological site investigation of Chromite deposits in critical zone of ophiolite sequence of Muslim Bagh, Baluchistan. Investigated area dominantly consists of podiformal and lenticular to massive granular lenses of chromite. Along multiple trenches smaller chromitite bodies were encountered for mining prospect. Disseminated chromite ore are commonly found along the minerlized bodies of dunites and serpentinite.

    #Geological_Background:-
    Pakistan is blessed with many economic minerals deposits and chromite is one of them. Pakistan has major deposits in Muslim Bagh. Pakistan most of the chromite deposits are lies in northern, western and eastern margin of Indian plate. Pakistan has major chromite deposits occurrs along the northern and NW part of plate margins,hosted by mafic-ultramafic complexes and ophiolites, like the ultramafic complexes, Dargai (Sakhakot-Qila), and Shangla Mingora. The mafic-ultramafic complexes along Indus Suture Zone are Jijal, Sapat Complexes and Chilas Complex in northern Pakistan, at type localities Allai, Chilas, Pashtu, Jijal-Sapat areas.
    The Western margin of Indian Plate containing chromite deposits at type localities, Bela, Muslimbagh-Zhob and Waziristan Ophiolites. These are the major potential regions for chromite mining.
    Objectives: The main aim of this visit to investigate the chromite deposits of the area and to develop major potential zones for mining. The main objective of this work is to add technical expertise and make a suitable strategic plan to boost-up the production of chromite ore in the area, then our mining community fullfil the international demand of chromite chain supply.

    The major application of chromite is in production of stainless steel. As chromium is a highly corrosion resistant element, it is used to increase the resistance of steel against the corrosion and discoloration. Moreover, small proportion of chromite is also used in foundry, chemicals, and pigments.
