Loved it when you missed your serve and just laughed over it and said "May be that's not how it should be" lol and glad you proved ur previous point we all are humans and we are not perfect every time.
Really picked up some good tips here. WIth learning all the other nuances of TT I would say my serve is one of my weakest areas. So this was really helpful for me! This is the first of your videos I have watched and look forward to checking out the rest!
Thank coach of your very informative video, thank for the well detailed explanation, it's so great, I'm lucky that I found you in your channel, accurate and absolutely precise.
This is the video I was looking for! You pinpointed the exact problems that I (and probably many of us) have and explained it the best way possible. Hell of a job! Thanks a million, Eli!!! You're the best! And, sure enough, I hit the bell! =D
Great video. This is the best explanation I have seen so far. I hope the other videos are the same. I want to applaud you for making use of diagrams, drawings and different comparisons! The more you use them, the better for us amateurs to understand!
At about 7.00 you have given the trick to ensure that the wrist is in the right position to get most amount of spin. These nuggets are really precious.
lovin this. especially the paper “aid“ is a great idea. I modified the brushing exercise with the paper a bit : I pick up the paper as if I wanted to fold it in half (without folding it).this way , the paper forms a nice curve under my hand allowing to brush the paper very very thinly at a variety of angles , if I'm bad at judging the distance ,either no contact is made or i hit the paper , with the blade edge ,indicating my judgement of contact area was off .. great video !
Another thing i found increases spin of my serve is direction of brush.for example If you want to serve heavy sidespin make sure you brush side of the ball with horizontal movement of your bat, otherwise certain amount of ur force become top/back spin
Great lesson Eli. Can you talk about the psychology to win , how not to get discouraged when loosing to better players ? How to acquire mental toughness ? Thanks.
ɡreat videos... especially the whiteboard and the explanations of the contact points... it is very technical and precise. I'd like to see some video dedicated to explain certain strokes and techniques for penholders... there are not many videos for that ɡrip...
Hello coach, I often have this problem, I'm trying to hit fast but most of the times I hit to strong while trying to hit fast and the result is that I fail to serve short, how can I fix this ?
Thank You, I am having problems receiving side topspin fast serve to my backhand. At practice I can do it not every server but in the game I get lost. Please help me if you can. I believe you could help me with this. Thank you so much.❤
Greetings from Guayaquil - Ecuador. Your videos are very good and educational. But those are missing to reach more global audience, they need subtitles, Spanish please. Many thanks in advance for attending to this message ...
Thanks and best video that explains tehnical side and logic behind it. Great Great work and thanks alot once more. It was just the thing I missed in serves. Tomorrow I will make any1 who looses to coment here did it make change or it did not :DD
Hi thanks for good videos and instructions. an you make a video with standard Pendelum serve with high topspin. In slomo also of course. Then I would like to get spin on my reverse pendelum, but its just more training needed. But would like to develope the pendelum topspin more. I do today a hit of ball at the last end when racket is on the way up to my left breast(Righthandedplayer :) )
Good idea with the paper. Reminds me of Brett Clarke and how he uses objects to really make it clear. What's your take on following through vs a short jab ?
My problem is that I miss the ball too often during the serve like you did at 5:03. I try to really accelerate the wrist and I can't catch the point of contact: quick wrist and brushing contact equal either missed ball or flatter contact when you want to serve anything finally. But I want nice curved short and fast pendulum serve. You also didn't say about where to brush the ball when you stand near the table. It can be pure side contact of the ball (6 o'clock) or it can be back side of the ball (3 o'clock) or maybe something in the middle (4h 30minutes).
Eli, I appreciate your efforts to make this subject clear. "Get more spin on serves" is one of the key topics of modern tabletennis. But for me this video could get better if: 1) includes the results of the serve not only focus on the strike of the ball itself (I mean see the full trajectory on the ball, where the ball goes on the tables after your serve) . Show one serve full trajectory on the table with poor movement compared with one serve with suggested tips (high toss, strike at the top of the bat, high elbow position, brush effect, wristle movement). This means that you should use two cameras or only one but positioned from the bottom edge of the table for long view. 2) stress on full body motion during the serve ad quickly recover to normal position (you are always stuck at the angle, even after the serve is completed, that is not good for fast gameplay) 3) the paper simulation is really poor for me; it adds nothing to the concetpt. Could be much better to show how the rubber, brushes softly the ball and let the ball come back or not after the rebounce depending on the quality of the brush effect. 4) Apply the good tips not only to the pendulum serve but also to other types of services (tomahawk, backspin and so on...) Hope my suggestions could help you to do more complete videos in the future, as you like. Thank you in any case for your useful tips.
Great video coach. On ball toss I not practice it yet. But notice all the top played ark the ball to slow the ball down on contact. This is illegal but notice even yourself contacting the ball back from where you started from slightly. So does this mean there more control to increase the bat speed?
Thank for that mate I thought it had to be straight up and down. I am considered one best servers in the county. But there are 2 welsh national players in my league that make my service look civilised I think this is the link I missing ty.
Good tips, bro. But my real interest is getting a bod like yours, lol. How abt a series with exercises specifically designed for table tennis, all based on the assumption that people won't go to a gym, but instead use things at home (1 gallon jugs or heavy books for weight lifting, going to the community track, etc.). Exercises like situps, etc., but also exercises for your low back and core, and legs, all designed to make you faster on your feet while keeping correct form behind the table.
eBaTT Yes from beginners to intermediate players to even professional players! All players in the world can have talent but what about the fitness and the recovery position in order to be more efficient in stroke play.
Thanks for your tips. Can you explain how to learn the high throw? The ball gets out of control if it does not fall down at the right angle. That's why I currently only throw it as high as it is prescribed. But would like to throw higher to get more spin.

Thank you, I’m watching your videos several times while practicing. Your videos are so helpful. If you have the time and knowledge, do you have drills a solo player can practice alone w/ a table?
After slowing your slow motion part at the settings to the maximum (.25), I was able to see the contact area during the serve perfectly. Actually, when you serve, you more did this little, but very fast movement with you wrist than with the whole forearm.
GREAT TIPS coach! btw, out of topic... I want to ask about your hair, did you get tattoos on your head? sory to ask this, because myself bald, and wondering if tattoos can "redraw" my hairs... haha
Hi. I'm 50 years old and enjoying playing table tennis. My rubbers on my racket are classified a 5. The people in the know think this is suitable for me. I disagree. I would like to have more reactive rubbers to improve. I'm tired of the better players not wanting to play against me so I can improve. Hope people out there can understand where I'm coming from
Stephen, I’ll give you a little tip I used when I was not a good player and wanted to play against better players. One I would word battle them, meaning “hay that forehand is weak, if I played you I’d expose that weakness” sometimes they would take the bare. 2. Hay you want a game for a can of coke? 3. Do you think you can beat me if you gave me 3 -0 head start? Once they are on the table with you, you can also ask if they can have a little practice exercise before the match (more often than not they will, because they are on the table with you already) Best of luck
Great tips, Eli! I love that you left the missed serve in there and had a laugh over it. It's a small reminder not to take ourselves too seriously :)
Very nice 🎉
Nice mic. Your voice comes in clear and natural. Not so burdened with echo like some of the other table tennis channels.
He is world best coach even google says that
I really liked how honest your explaination was. Bravo.

Another thing i found increases spin of my serve is direction of brush.for example If you want to serve heavy sidespin make sure you brush side of the ball with horizontal movement of your bat, otherwise certain amount of ur force become top/back spin
u mean vertically
If you hit vertically ball pops up. Another thing i found out if i dont pressure with fingers on bat (very loose grip) i get more spin and less hit
Thanks very informative
Thank you coach.. Great tip.. Can you show backhand serve as well?
Eli, thanks so much for yr instruction, standard as usual, high and appreciated.

Coach what equipment are you using.
Ocharaov 1 blade acuda s1 and Jp01
Why do I keep hitting my body with the paddle when doing this serve? My gut ain’t that big! Lol. Is my technique wrong?
eBaTT thank you very much for the response, sounds like I’ll be needing to change some bad habits!
Hi Coach!
What blade and rubbers do you use??
nice
Thanks
Thank you 🙏🏓
Is all these points are applicable on every serve
Not all but many yes. It depends on what serve but in terms of spin, most are relevant to all serves
Good
Thank you 🙏
Awsome video and thank you! You should 100% be the first to take someone under your belt and teach them to become awesome with a Gordon Ramsey twist!
