I was a kid when this came out. And till this day i remember these songs. My moms be like you remember THAT???i be like, the good ones you never forget!🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹❤❤❤
I remember Atlanta's first carnival and Carl & carol jacobs band played this. All Carl Jacob said was "I wanna jump with my finger pointing in the air !" And 800 people screamed "oye ah yoy! " it was just nuts. Stays with me all these years after... they didn't even finish singing the song just the choras.
The horns were always a hook for me when I was a lad! Boy! They this is so far above what remember!!! I'll start up me own carnival on me own!!! Anyone who has ever beat a brake drum and a coke bottle to a quattro at night knows what I'm talking about!
One of the sweetest Road March ever by the raging bull (Tambu). Ah feel this was a true storyI could distinctly hear David Rudder harmonizing the chorus line.
I'm feeling this right now that the borders are closed because of covid-19. My sweet T&T I'd like to jump up and point my finger in the air God's willing when I touch down on the land. Prayerfully sooner rather than later. I'm waiting and its August 2020.

The emphasis is now on the rhythm (beat)and its ability to make people dance mindlessly. Lyrics are perceived as secondary and the music is suffering as a result of this approach. We can only pray that people will tire of the modern day drivel and revert to classic soca where lyrics, melody and rhythm all shared an equal space.
when brass emphasized we music n lyrics and storytelling and sweet melody defined calypso and soca..I do appreciate my generation approach to the art form however when men like chalkdust n cro cro dem started dem outa timing racial calypsos and jus killed the art form ...I love calypso I wanto see it rise to the standard it should have been instead it died with a few assholes who took our music n tun it into fukery.... I want soca and calypso bak d way it shud b..wen last u hear a artiste producing a top quality panorama tune...I young but I will always appreciate gud music ..the past has given us that.. the future needs to step up especially calypsonians .. how I miss kitchen n sparrow n dfosto Nelson rudder duke n rose plummer n all those quality artiste eh...tribute to jit ..the best pan arranger in history...
The sweet sound of Charlie’s Roots. Great times ❤ 🎶 This was the year Roots (Pelham) used a lot of Tessa in their production. You hear it in Rudder’s 1989 Power & The Glory album.
Many of us who come home for Carnival 1989, this song was/is basically our anthem!! In 1989 when I heard this Calypso for the first time I did relate to the lady hat Tambu is referring about! I was certain that Tambu would have taken the Calypso Monarch title with this song and "Journey". This is my opinion, I can not see howbeit dem judges gave Chalkdust who did "Chauffeur Wanted" and "Carnival Is The Answer" with the same beat and same harmony. To this day I am still baffled!!
@thecrushingstorm Tambu is still around. Alive and well. He no longer participate in Soca. He now only sings Gospel. There's a video with him talking to someone. About his former past career. When he was a former calypsonian. In the search box type in Chris "Tambu" Herbert. You'll see him.
ah swear meh mudder wuddah marry dis man if she wasn't wit my dad....i remember her jus putting her two hands up n jus hip swingin to d rhythm...o how she loved his music
Real Soca gundenero1 you ain't lie about that! Ah fed up, fed up wid de mindless "jump up, jump up, get on wild, whine whine whine". It makes Trini/Carib artiste look like they ain't got talent...which is far from the truth. SMH
+Ramon Blanco Clearly you didn't read my comment in its proper context. It was making a comparison of Old School Soca to Modern Soca. Old Soca focus on telling story like in de vein of Calypso. Modern Soca is just hype with little/no substance. I know Soca music/Trini people....I got family in South Trinidad.
what they sing now will be forgotten in a few years, but music like this will last forever
Could not agree more.
Look at me agreeing with this comment a whole nine years after its posting.

I don't think we'll ever have the opportunity to hear LIVE BRASS BAND playing soca music like this...everything now is computers

Big lyrics in this song! Telling the story man.
Yes!!!!
miss music like this...
i know everything must change but we can't lose our identity with change. Soca is to much riding riddim like dance hall.
I agree the quality has definitely gone.
Love it. Music and lyrics.
