I love the way some Gaelic words are " borrowed" such as partaidh, and then lenited ! 🥳😄

You are talking about a light in the mountains, well I was at a bridge in Inverness looking at the mountains when a light caught my attention, still daylight, with no possible reflection from the sun into something, also no houses to be seen, and it was not Samhain.
The ancient souls of Scotland are not shy to show themselves to me.
    Love your stories and videos.

Chunnaic mi email - O, glé mhath, Jason! Chunnaic mi video. Bha mi ag iarraigh an sceal ‘An Cnoc’. Bha mi glé shona a bhith le Jason agus Donnagh agus Calum anns a cnoc air Oidhche Shamhna. Bha an pàirtidh neònach - moràn daoine ag ól agus ag ithe agus ag dannsadh ann an cnoc. Bha Donnagh glé shona ach bha Calum ag iarraidh a’ fàgail. Uill! Cha robh mi ag iarraidh a’ fàgail an cat breagha agus an yurt glé bhlath! Tapadh leat, a Jason.

Hey man....i'm "gilak" from southern of caspian sea...our language is gilaki...
    Interestings things is:
    We call chicken = Carc
    We call straw = collosh
We call the bee = siphtal
We call it crispy = carch
We call the stand up = vireas
We call the guys = gagalean
    .
And many similarity words i found!

There are lots of similar words from all over Europe as if you go back far enough all European laguages are decendants from Proto-Indo-European. Quite often you can tell how early two languages diverged from one another by the similar and different words. Like shirt has cognates it many germanic and easter languages but romance languages and goidelic have very different words for shirt sugesting they developed before the shirt cognate came to mean shirt. They are also both very different from each other suggesting they separated from each other before they had their own shared cognate word.

Tapadh leibh Jason!!! fun story...as always. Why is CNOC pronounced with an R sound? I am also not sure what i am hearing with DH endings on words.

    • @GaelicwithJason
      @GaelicwithJason  4 месяца назад +1

'S e do bheatha! I'm glad you enjoyed it. 😀 I made a video all about the N sounding like an R; it's in my Gaelic Grammar Made Easy playlist on here. The comments are quite interesting as well, as many folk shared all kinds of historical information about this sound shift. I recommend checking it out! 🙂
I plan on making a video about that -adh ending if I haven't already. Soon I hope! Keep listening closely to that sound in the meantime. It takes a while for our non-Gael ears to tune to it. It's subtle. I have full faith in you - you can do it! 🙂

Bliadhna mhath ùr dhut, a Traveller! Hoping 2024 will be a meaningful, happy year for you. 🙂 You're not losing your mind; that's a very common sound for CN. I have a video all about it in my pronunciation playlist! The comments for that video are an interesting read too. 🙂🙂

Interesting. Duolingo pronounces it “K-N-och”. I’m going to use “K-R-och” going forwards, it’s easier to pronounce and flows better for me. Tapadh leibh airson leasan seo!
