For the record, this isn't gonna count as December's review. It's still November's even though it took a few extra days. You'll still be getting another review in late December!
Idk what this guy is on but thanks for the extra work KNIJohn. You a real one
For the BN6 review, will you be using the International or Japanese release? Because as good as the international version is, it had a lot of cut content, including the Boktai scenario, and 3 areas. The JP version is the definitive way to play the game and I highly recommend you play that with an english patch.
@@shay5987 Can confirm it will be the English. He was streaming it today. while all your points are valid, a good chunk of that is post-game, for which John is having a separate video. as well, he had to choose between that patch or the Dabbing Megaman Patch on an English version. I think you can guess which one won
Yayyy.
@@shay5987 I believe he reviews what was released and judges that product, not what was patched by fans.

So... Twitter.
I didn't expected you to be here in a total no League of Legends content
Regal's grand plan was to make everyone expose their Twitter persona in the real world. That's actually evil genius.
I thought the exact same thing when I reach that point XD
For the part were Lan controls Colonel I feel that the Team Protoman versión is more meaningful, because it's Chaud who entrusts Lan with Protoman and for the rivalry between the two of them it feels like a really beautiful moment.
Yep, it speaks volumes that Chaud actually trusts Lan with Protoman considering he always treated him as the lesser Netbattler, and Protoman must obviously have respect for Lan and Megaman to trust him as a temporary operator.
Unfortunately, Team Colonel is the canon version
Kinda make you wish there just a single version or a fan make one that merge both version.
@@Aibadenshi It would be hard to cram 12 soul unions into one game tho
@@HeroSword_P I think it would be alright, I always felt 6 to be quite limiting
Darklance is the "I hate Cloudman" chip
The real character development is following this series as a kid and thinking Higsby (and Masa) simping for Miss Mari was stupid, only to grow up and realise Miss Mari is actually waifu material.
I have become Higsby. I don't know how to feel about this.
Huh.

I'm about ms.madd, miyu and ms.yuri(preferably the hairstyle on the anime)
The Game: "We should make Regal a pretty chill person despite everything he did."
The Anime route: *So Megaman decided to let Regal pick any God to ask for forgiveness via Bass Cross.*
Gonna be honest the number puzzle in ship was one of the best bonding experiences I had with my mom. I hate the puzzle but loved the memory of me and her trying to solve it.
I HAD THIS EXACT SAME EXPERIENCE. I LITERALLY COULD NOT FIGURE IT OUT AND ALMOST GAVE UP THE GAME BECAUSE WELL, I quite frankly was too stupid to open the door myself. But my mom helped me figure it out and I got to continue an amazing game and get stuck at murkland- LMAO
omg thats so cool..i stop playing this about one week and the idea to solve 'tonight' as 29 pops up when i was taking a poop in the toilet XD..good old days without internet
Your poor mom. That shit is bonkers
@@brya9681 Oh yes it was it almost drove us crazy
That puzzle isn't hard. John is being really weird around puzzles for some reason.
"I'm on flames!" might be the single greatest mistranslated line in the entire series.
also i find it hilarious how shademan.exe went from being the 2nd in command of nebula to just another member of the quirky boss navi squad. remember when he was untouchable? yeah, feels like a lifetime ago.
It's almost like he's given special treatment randomly just because Capcom really want to partner with Boktai, the series about slaying vampires. Wonder who will get the same treatment had it not for the Boktai crossover though.
Yep, BN4 Shademan was actually intidimating and otherwordly since you had to hunt down his real form in the post game to get the proper boss fight.
@@HeroSword_Preal form?
@@TheKpa11 Like a proper boss fight that you have to take down, not the story versions where he is immune to damage or you are forced to use a dark chip.

Oh that. I thought plot wise they were going to do the whole “The shade man you’ve been dealing with is just his shadow and the real one is hiding”
OK HOLD UP, MASSIVE DOUBLE TAKE! I've known this game for years, and I never noticed this detail.
So everyone talks about how Team Colonel gets an extra scene in the credits showing how Wily is connected to Regal.
I'm willing to bet you missed the Team Protoman Version of that. Heck, I JUST found it today. The fact of the matter is, it's easily missable, so I blame no one but the person who decided to give us 2 versions instead of 1.
Either way, in the ending scene where Lan takes of the Magnometal Amulet to reach out to Megaman over Soulnet, he hears the voice telling him that he and Megaman are always connected. In Team Colonel version, this voice isn't really addressed specifically, and just says the same line twice. Lan just has dots, then says "we don't need soulnet, yada yada." But in TEAM PROTOMAN, This voice is directly addressed by Lan AND Regal, who they identify as Tadashi's voice. It further goes on to give a longer dialogue than Team Colonel's version (albiet only slightly, hence being missable).
To spell it out, each game's ending gives an extra nod to one of Soulnet's creators, and Since Colonel, and by Extension, Baryl, are adopted by Wily, this would make sense as to why Team Colonel the Wily scene. As for why Team Protoman has Tadashi, perhaps it was just by default.
not sure if this is present in Team Colonel cuz I JUST finished Team Protoman on Legacy, but the last Visionburts we see is in Scilab where Tadashi and Wily are discussing Soulnet, and how they mention their children, and Wily mentions, by name, Regal.
Something you forgot about shadow soul. You can hold a to charge a sword chip and teleport behind the enemy to strike them with that sword.
Oh, and there actually IS an unused tutorial for Chaos Unison. It's in the games code, but never used.
Oh crap you're right. I never used that ability so it wasn't in any of my footage (that I noticed) and I forgot. I guess that's what happens when there's 3 months in between playing the game and making the video.
Nothing personal kid.
Huh, didn't remember that. I like how they didnt have enough Invis ideas so they just made it mostly a second sword soul.
Speaking of, I love Protosoul's step sword ability. Especially with moon blade.
And also, with Shadow Soul, you move between Panels faster.
@@jonathanrussell8998 I actually think it's a "similar but different" thing.
Proto soul gets you up close, while shadow let's you sneak up behind
That number puzzle is how I learned about the internet has game guides as a kid. As my parents didn't know how to do it either and figured some "expert gamers" on the internet would know. It was so sweet.
Anime lol
MsMari: I need help doing some minor task, pls come
Baryl: Nooooo you can't just go and leave the mission now! We're saving the net here
Chadsgby: Yes queen
Despite colonel being canon, you could tell that the episodes were made with Protoman's Navis in mind lol. IIRC, Team protoman had Laika/Raika and Searchman get called in by their government for an urgent mission (remember, they are Russian, or whatever Russia is called in exe). Makes much more sense for a Soldier/spy to delay a mission over that than... Simping.
@@raze2012_ Raika is from Shalo (a similar country like Russia, show in MegaMan Battle Network 4 Red Sun)
His literal reason for being in the team is to become a man so he can tell ms Mari to Marry him lol
The 12-year old me is crying over you beating that 100 samurai thing in your first try 😂 awesome review man I appreciate the work you put into these videos
My reaction was, "Oh absolutely fuck youuuuu!" XD
I'm so mad LOL

I had to use a speed effect to make it slower
13 year old me Is enjoying these too 😅
*Yeaaaah, that was some bullshit*
Can we just talk about how easily the most capable Darkloid if you really pay attention is Cloudman. Not the most difficult fight or anything, but the guy in cutscenes is directly responsible for the capture of both Megaman and whoever the lead navi is. Man should have gotten a promotion or something cause thats hella efficiency for an opponent who's whole thing is to be easily disposable when compared to Cosmoman who gets far more respect.
My first couple times watching this I heard "demonic device" rather than "pneumonic device" in regards to the ship password. I didn't bat an eye because it was fitting.
worth pointing out, in the 1:34 cutscene in Team Protoman, Lan ends up clocking Chaud in the face instead of being slapped by Baryl. Might be the second time in the series in which Lan inflicts bodily harm against someone (First one being Suyama in BN3 with his Pet case throwing skills).
Additionally, Tadashi is only identified as the voice in Soul Net in Team ProtoMan.
That actually is quite surprising since Baryl is an adult.
In most cases an adult striking a child in any capacity is a big no-no.
It's kind of the same as male characters striking female ones not being allowed. (Though of course females striking males is fine.)
I think it also just works better as a character beat for both characters. Chaud understands Lan's emotions and knows he needs to let them out, and just wants Lan to know that he'll be there as a friend even if he does lash out. It's a strong moment that both shows both how distraught Lan is and how much Chaud does actually care about Lan as a friend.
@@jacks7852 parallels the dark protoman stuff from the anime if one thinks about it, one lost their Navi and the other tries to console but it leads to a physical altercation
@TheAzulmagia Yep. An Regal being Wily's adopted son in Colonel. It really just seems neither game is canon and a mix of the two is due to the number of Navis needing 2 games to split them up
The unedited reaction of you just whipping your controller across the room is just... Priceless
I find really weird how Team Colonel introduces a new character but makes a team out of old characters, while Team Protoman uses a old character to introduce new ones. Not only that, but Team Protoman's members make more thematic sense to all the obstacles they have in the liberation. Oh and when Chaud offers Lan a new Navi, Lan punches him in the face, for suggesting "substituting" MegaMan...
In my head canon, a combination of both teams were used and Baryl was Chaud’s superior or something. But honestly, I agree that team Protoman fits better overall.
@@durand4l I also interpret things like that, fits better than one being totally non-canon.
The Navis from Team Protoman, including proto himself, alongside Hub and Colonel.
Perfect.
And yet for some reason, the operators have the opposite issue. They all made way more sense to be where they are when you meet them and is way easier to justify them joining Team Colonel.
And Searchman having to ditch the team makes more sense as he's still a military under Sharo orders and he had a Nebula agent to hunt, a much bigger priority than simping for a middle school teacher...
I couldn't hold in my laughter after seeing Lan make the connection between big fish and gargoyle.
The Regal plot is so easy to fix, that's the weirdest part. Make it so Regal was shaken by the end of BN4, by seeing people from the world over cooperate and even being willing to have him face punishment in a fair way instead of just offing him like he planned on doing to them. So he wants to make Soul Server to have tangible proof of who was right about humanity: him or Lan. You can still have a final boss as a way to avoid trying to answer that question. Maybe Wily is a part of the plot in the shadows, wanting to usurp the project at the last minute, or have Dark Chip fuckery be the cause. Point is there was an incredibly obvious way to make Regal driven by his ideal without it being retarded.
Well at least there's the anime and manga versions. The anime version especially
@@IzzuZiq do tell havent read that part yet and been too long since ive seen the anime
@@jordongutierrez1219 in anime version regal uses dark chips to corrupt Navis and darkloids and plans to have the entire world combined with internet so he can Conquer the world with his Gigantic Laserman in axess session in the duo season he tries to take over duo and accomplish his goal

9:20 this part actually makes a LOT more sense if you(ve ever seen how the anime depicts Tomahawk Swing: it doesn't cause damage simply from the axe striking the enemy right in front of Tomahawkman, but rather creates sharp v-shaped gusts of wind that can strike several rows of enemies.
The animation in the game doesn't make it as clear for sure, but I swear it makes sense x)
I always figured it's the same deal as LifeSword - just enlarging the tomahawk into a huge axe while swinging to sweep through everything.
@@SolarMegaMan Yea this is what I thought as well
53:00 I think some plot were lost in translation/localization. In the Japanese version he mentioned revenge against society for driving out his father, Doctor Wily. This made Dr. Wily appearance more impactful. Time to boot up the old DS to check.
When it comes to the localization the gba and ds have 2 completely different scripts, with the gba having the superior version with no errors typos and sticking mostly to the Japanese script
@@geostelar8517 WHAT!? You're telling me: They retranslated the game and made it WORSE!?
@@jouheikisaragi6075 as completely bizarre and ridiculous as it sounds yes
After exe 4 terrible translation capcom was super strict when it came to exe 5
When the ds version a year later they re did the script for some reason and made it worse
Another example of this is ace attorney trilogy 3ds vs HD trilogy on console
3ds uses a new revised script from the og ds translation while the hd version takes the English script that's included in the Japanese version which is filled with odd sentences errors and typos
@@geostelar8517 how bizarre. Gamedev brainrot hits hard
Wasn't this mentioned at the end of BN4?
When I was a kid, I actually had to call the help number in the game's manual to get past the number code puzzle on the cruise liner. One of the very few times I ever called one of those numbers.
IDK but Russian accent fits Colonel so much and i dont even know why
The 100 foes sound effects made me lose it. I also hyped up this moment for failure in chat only to Cobchamp at John's gaming prowess. Such a fun stream.
Edit: omg he said Yoai hands. I wasn't expecting that.
The fish thing is just another example of the less then stellar localization of this series. Changing Endo City to End City and the shachihoko to gargoyle without editing any of the visuals makes it the dumbest “puzzle”
And oh god trial of one hundred foes has to be my most hated part in the series so good for you only having to do it once
So, Team Proto Man is the superior version, yet Colonel is canon ? great...
It’s a matter of preference, for me I prefer TP over TC even though imo Colonel is the superior leader when it comes to liberation missions just because he has a default ranged charge attack that can be used more than once whereas Protoman has widesword as his charge attack. Each version has its own flaws and merits but I still prefer watching most of the story play out in the TP version since most of the scenarios make so much more sense in that version over TC, like how the mission that involves Searchman/Numberman putting the next liberation mission hold;
Raika’s reason - “government business” (seems reasonable)
Higsby’s reason - …simping for Lan’s teacher (don’t know why he doesn’t just go for her twin sister instead, they both used to work for WWW after all)
@@elianrodriguez7318 I used to prefer Colonel over Protoman gameplay-wise too but I think Protoman’s reflector shield actually makes him arguably better than Colonel for a lot of the enemies that you can’t just cut down with widesword honestly. But yeah, story-wise I think Chaud and Protoman being the leaders is so much better it isn’t even funny. I also like how they introduce Colonel and Baryl in Team Protoman, it was a great setup to expand on in the next game but the next game wasn’t written with that in mind, it was written with Team Colonel in mind.
That said, Dingo’s story is way better than the fireworks guy and MagnetMan’s charge shot and liberation ability SUCK, but dang that numberman story sucks
There’s definitely a “best of” mix to be had between the teams, I feel.
Don’t really believe the team colonel is canon stuff, it’s only fan theory without official backing. Both versions can work and it would be antithetical to the games being 2 versions if only 1 is valid
@@Xeno-The-Wanderer Theory yes but 6 regardless of version treats Baryl and Colonel as someone Lan knew and interacted with.. Which only really happened in Colonel
@@Jaquan018 Baryl while short still has a major role toward the end of team protoman and also 6 has Chaud already making a fair few references to his tenure as team leader such as what he says to Lan after the first dungeon
If I remember correctly, even if you're playing Team Protoman, Colonel still shows up to block Nebula Grey (since Baryl, for whatever reason still shows up in the end to flex on Regal while Wily is off-screen) before the obligatory power of friendship charge shot
Yes. It happens
Yeah but that barely qualifies as "Working together" and knowing Baryl which the 6th game strongly expected of you
30:06 numberchaos is definitely the worst one, but if you somehow get any of the vulcan PAs with it you can beef them up to do 70x20/24/28 (infvulcan1/2/3), something you can't normally do with multi-letter PAs
Yeah they do stupid amounts of damage. Basically this games version of BN3's Disco Inferno (Grass Stage, Prism, and Heat Speader) or Buzzing Ice (Ice Stage, Plasma 3, and a bunch of atk up chips (if you can some how throw a Prism into the mix, it's basically an all-delete function lmao))
"Its mister MVP. SIMP!" As it shows Higsby's face had me rolling. 😂

Honestly I figured it was 29 on my first guess? But like you said, that’s ridiculously obscure, and MMBN continued to reuse those types of puzzles despite translation issues to everyone’s chagrin
The whole "I'll prove humanity is evil by installing an outside force that makes them evil" reminds me of the anti-free will argument that essesntially goes "free will doesn't exist because people can be manipulated."
I'm going through a really stressful point in my life right now, but seeing this in my sub box made my night. I love this retrospective of one of my favorite series of all time.
I binge-watched all of your mainline Battle Network videos in a day and I just want to say Thanks! These videos are SO enjoyable to watch and brought back a lot of memories.
Oh if this is how you feel about this game, I can only imagine how 6 is gonna go.
Your entire series of reviews for Zero AND MMBN has been a dream, and always enjoyable. Great work
Im gonna be honest. They should have made a secret ending to shoehorn bass cross to appear for the ending. Like if you actively searched out and battled bass throughout the story then bass would appear at the end to help (because why not lol) and then bass cross happens. If anyone watched the movie you'd kinda see where im going with it. Whether it makes sense or not it would have been a cool reference to the movie. And yes i know the bass battle appears post game sadly 😭
That 100 challenge to me was by far the biggest roadblock because it's diagonal. When I played it again last year it still took me 8 tries before I got it and the infuriating thing is that it's super easy until the last 5% of it so every time you fail that you have to slow through the boring 95% to get another shot at the 5% rush at the end.
The castle dungeon though is actually my favorite one of the game by far. I loved figuring it out how to get them lined up correctly.
Fuck that sword challenge, why couldn't they have just directly mapped it to the D-pad instead of having to use the clunky diagonal controls?
@@SpectroliteDS2400Because of the weird isometric top down view (at an angle).
Re: 29:41
Ohhhh BOY do you underestimate what that thing can do... While it's underwhelming to boost single strike chips, when it's applied to multi hit chips, it gives +50 damage TO EACH HIT... Even a Basic Vulcan chip of 3 hits go from 30 damage to 180 from a single use of Dark Plus. Imagine Super Vulcan with 12 hits!
Activate Number Chaos with a slew of multi hitters, and you tear through just about ANY boss with ease (alongside any enemies you counter)
I HEAVILY advise you keep that in mind going into BN6, it's why many veterans recommend Color Point and Double Point despite its trade-off, especially with chips like Super Vulcan.
Essentially it's difficult to use and situational, but when the stars align you am become death, destroyer of worlds.
@@SpectroliteDS2400 situational, sure, but not too hard to use. Bear in mind that you can pause the game to fix the timing on using Chaos Unison.
I went from assuming his reviews were snarky in the RE6 review to loving and subbing to this guy. Glad i got over my wrong assumptions for the long haul
BN5 was my absolute favorite of the series, specifically the GBA versions.
I kinda hope you do a video on all the BN post game areas, and highlighting what post-games got cut down outside Japan, because some of the post-games are amazing.
BN4 had a whole post-game scenario with Django and Dracula, BN5 has a whole additional set of Liberation Missions, and half of BN6 post-game was cut out (but is still in the code, thus fan patches restore it rather easily)
he says at the end you can find them on patreon. iirc
Man I hope to get a DX of BN6 at some point, that was a really solid one on its own and a ton of fun.
@@Wernershnitzl While there isn't exactly a DX like they did with Starforce Pegasus, there is a fully functional translation patch of both BN6 Gregar and Falzar (currently playing it) so you can play it in full-on english with even chips and title card updated and all the cut content. (also, small warning: Django's Mega Chip is powerful, but UNDERWHELMINGLY LAME compared to the Django Mega Cards we had so far!)
That ending was well worth the wait. Glad you enjoyed your time with BN5, and looking forward to the BN6 review.
Personally I don't mind 5's narrative outside of the obvious padding, all BNs had this semi episodic structure it's just that 5 tried to hide it the least, the ending is also absolute Shounen garbage and I love it lmao it's so unapologetically hype and insane but your criticism absolutely stands I just like that type of stuff personally
I've been marathoning these games since I discovered your channel and a friend of mine egging me on to keep going and I have all mainline Battle Network and Starforce games (even sneaking in a second playthrough of Starforce 3, it's one of my favorite games of all time now), BN5 has my favorite combat in the series but 6's makes much more sense in the perspective of a competitive scene since the dev team wanted the series to have longevity, hence why BN6 is balanced around multiplayer and it being so easy to hack
Overall a solid video as always, thank you for introducing me to this side of Megaman I never heard of before and your lovely channel and I hope you can catch a good rest before getting harassed over a Battle Network 6 video, thank you John
Been waiting for this the past few days, can't wait to see what he thinks about the endgame
Oh, endgame is gonna be fun
Is Endgame only on the patreon, like he mentioned at the end of the video?
End game will be eventful at the very least
@@gurgamus5037 endgame will be a video off all 6 combined I believe. But patrons will get each game early as he finishes them. When he is done with all 6 he will post it for everyone else
16:53, this made me pause the video in a pure laughing fit.
Edit, I think BN4 should've never existed because 5 seems to be a sequel to 3 if that makes sense, I don't remember hub being acknowledged in 4 or 6 and it calls back to stuff like 3's ending,
Anyways, Another Amazing review John, also kudos for reading EVERY Patreon supporters name. 👏
The only real connection between 4/5 it would seem is Regal himself.
Aside from the SciLab room, 3 is straight up ignored in 4,5 and 6, though there were plans to include Serenade in 6 but that plan didn't come to fruition
Having binge watched the entirety of the anime series, I'm surprised at how much the Exe anime just moved stuff around and watching this review just make it more clear. Considering how dumb stuff in the games can be, some changes I say are probably for the better.
EDIT to comment on the 1:03:04 bit because it's funny how the games don't want to commit to killing people off but the anime, specifically the Stream season that's more BN4 Duo plot with 5's Team part mixed in, killed both Regal and Barrel, the latter technically died of old age but also time travel is a thing
I'm still torn on wether them turning it into Kamen Rider/a Magical Girl show was a good or bad idea.
@@jouheikisaragi6075 I didn't think it was really a thing that bothered me. We still have plenty of random internet bs of the week the series is known for and eventually the games end up using the cross fusion thing for the other games (ZX/ZXA and Star Force) anyway.
Also the BN4 adaptation has more of an actual plot and Regal actually dies at the end of Stream by Duo's hands.
Beast making the whole "alternate universe" thing for Gregar and Falzar is a lil wild tho
@@IzzuZiq I actually liked the concept of Beyondard and the Zoanoroids so much that I straight wish they were an actual thing in the games.
@@rock117rx2 I don't mind em too. It's just in the context of adaptation from the games, it's a whole different thing.
At least with Axess and Stream and the movie mixing and matching stuff around I can see it as BN4's plot being... whatever it is that the studio just decided to do its own thing.
Although I suppose the idea that "we've gone so far from the games at this point we might as well do our own thing for Beast" makes sense, especially when the status quo for the anime has gone into its own direction
@@IzzuZiq Yeah, I really aprecciate that the anime gave BN4 an actual proper plot. Though it kinda came at the cost that BN3's plot was pretty much Adapted Out. Serenade, Mamoru, Dr. Cossack and Alpha straight just dont exist in the anime!
I am.kinda curious about the direction the manga goes with, which while I heard it kinda sticks slightly closer to the games. I think it also does its own thing.
For example, Bass gets a lot moree focus in the manga. Including getting his Falzar Beast Out form that was exclusive to a japan-only arcade game called Battle Chip Stadium...
And get this, in the manga. His Get Ability Program ends up copying the HUB STYLE!!!
The controller getting whipped across the room killed me hard 😂😂
im binge watching all of these until the collection drops next friday 😂
I love how Yai introduces Oran Island as this abandoned nowheresville that nobody cares about anymore, yet it CONVENIENTLY happens to have its own sprawling, relevant netscape counterpart, as well as being CONVENIENTLY relevant and related to the plot/the Hikaris' past
Really loved the video, super happy with how it turned out and I can't wait for the 6th installment, followed by all of the post games. You're doing great work to keep this community going
My god that ending lmao
You were completely right, you could not have made it any funnier
15:05 I'm pretty sure it does. there's a few vids here and there of people using shadowchaos/darkinvis to spam dark thunder and the shademan PA
DarkMega (the boss) also uses cannon, quake1, and dark sword even if you've never used them in addition to your chip pool. It's much more noticeable in optional postgame fight where they clearly do significantly more damage than the chip is supposed to do.
that is a manipulation that can only be done in the gba version. sadly it was fixed in the ds version
yeah that was patched in Double Team unfortunately.
That number puzzle stumped me and all of my bro once we got there (I got Double Team DS. In my file, I played as Team Protoman, while my bro played Team Colonel.) We managed to solve it ourselves WITHOUT a guide somehow. I forgot how but I think my younger brother suggested that tonight sounds like the numbers “two” and “night”. Still, if it’s a case of being lost in translation, no wonder the puzzle is harder than it actually is. Btw, thank you for this wonderful review. I know people aren’t fans of the liberations sections but I actually enjoy them, at least after figuring out how it works. Double Souls in BN5 are a huge step up from 4 thanks to being compatible with the Navi Customizer and Chaos Unisons. Team Protoman’s in particular are so busted.
That boat section made me feel so dumb as a kid....until the adults I asked didn't get the riddle either.
Yeah my dad who's usually good with puzzles thought it was a mistake up until I showed him the passcode was supposed to be numbers and then he destroyed it.
Ive just realised, outside the potential chekovs gun and deus ex machina stuff going on ... The Amulet gifted to you made of magnometal was forshadowed. Theres a reason everything kept taking us back to Oran Island. The Knightman stuff, the operator was saying they were digging for the metal - so this is the reason Lan's grandpa was on the island to begin with and knew the random stranger
Ever since the classic games in the series, devs have stated that they do their best to _not_ show any human dying on screen, or at least not dying for real. This is why in all of the Megaman games of the classic and X series, you only know about humanity's hardships through hearsay in cutscenes and the like, but never directly. It wasn't until BN and Zero 4 onwards that we see actual humans in the series, and as you may have surmised, none of them actually die, even though the script makes sure to spook you into believing it - the chairs from BN3 being a good example of this.
It probably explains why most of the villains, and mainly the main ones, always receive some kind of redemption at the end, even though it thematically makes no sense at all.
When I talked about how cool search and napalm man'd abilities were, my cousin who had colonel had his parents return his colonel to get team protoman like I had
The trial of 100 foes was so hard for me I couldn't beat it for weeks
19:30 Okay so about that gargoyle thing. In Japanese version it's called シャチホコ (Shachihoko) which is a fantasy creature with the head of a tiger and the body of a carp (=fish) and it often can be seen at the top of castles. Capcom translation team with their infinite wisdom, figured out foreign audiences have no idea what Shachihoko is so they localized it to a gargoyle only to cause far more confusion for players.
42:22 Don't you mean the little green bastard proved you 'toadally wrong'?
-.- Ok, I'll leave quietly.
One of the non elemental chips that can be used with Colonel soul's arm change are the pulse chips. That chip can be spammed with decent damage

I love the first-time part that you put in! I laughed my ass off.
Great content. Stoked for your run through six as well. I wish there was more content on the battle network series out there.
Okay Lan and Mega Man are both voiced my Mark Gatha. I'd recognize that "let's do it" anywhere
Mark Gatha is Lan, and Mega Man is Jeffrey Watson
42:56 The scream after shooting the viruses with dark wideshot got me so hard wtf.
I really like the inclusion of audio from your Twitch streams over the top of some of the more ridiculous moments. It's great.
Love your reviews dude, and I'm loving the extra little flourishes in the editing. Great content dude, please keep it up and I'm really looking forward to seeing your review of 6. Thanks for the massive blast of nostalgia to my childhood GBA games.
These videos are great. Very excited to hear you're planning on doing the post-games as well!
I generally find your witty banter enjoyable and your edits are funny. New sub
No mention of Nebula Gray having one of the best final boss themes of all time?
I dropped everything I was doing once I saw this video. I love your videos and I can't wait for more!
52:32 “So is…is he just a dick?”
The way you asked that question makes me laugh! 😂
Awesome to see part 2! Been waiting all day yesterday and today for this to come. I wonder what December's review going to be... you've been killing it with the quality of writing lately. You deserve a gingerbread house.
I dunno if its just me but im hoping for a megaman zero2 review for decembers review.
Thank you so much for making these mega videos (stayed til the end, I know it's hard work)~
Reminder that megaman is the most human of every program and every program gets more human following discoveries/progression made by megaman, so him being able to fight their dark soul actually makes a lot of sense.
Especially since it is implied a lot that HUB's existence legitimately exists within him, not just recreation.
Also the air gauge may just be how the place works, like VR chat.
Something else not mentioned is the NPCs react to everything, everytime something happens in one of these games you can go around and see whats different, like the ACDC vision burst door the guy jamming out staring into the void will mention it after it being opened.
Colonel soul tankcannon is really good, especially for when the final boss cucks your fucking folder and you have to do it in a retarded way because you are lazy.
Nebula grey is apparently 'a mans digitized evil soul' which i think is supposed to bring out the worst in people, so it still sorta fits his goals, but yes cartoon villain ahoy but i wouldnt say the concept doesnt interest me too. (also the evil seems to come from the heart of the murkland, or whatever, so it is raw negative intent at the least)
As cheesy as it is i also like how it sorta is realistic about constantly having bad intent or wanting to do bad things, bad things building, that's why it's harped onto, it's less story more morals with this ending tbh.
It's like duo's warning came about to fruition.
The wily thing is lol.
It's not even implied. The very first game's plot ending device was removing MegaMan's 0.1% difference between him and Hub's DNA by using Hub.bat
Doesn't get any more overt than that.
@@AndrevusWhitetail Yeah but the rest of it is the side effects that are pivotal to things, no one brings up thats why it's just played off as plot armor.
No better way to spend a Saturday than watching a new review of megaman shenanigans
Thanks for completing the game and video John, really appreciate it
Giving me war flashbacks with that old Toadman music.
Great review as always made me laugh a few times can't wait till the next game
Protoman showing up outta nowhere for bullshit deus ex machina is pretty accurate to the original lol
Really liked the video, definitely worth the wait! Also THANK YOU for devoting time to explaining how AWFUL the Queen Bohemia password was, I remember being stuck there for weeks when I played through Team Protoman as a kid.
I hear you. The fact me and my brother managed to solve that puzzle without a guide was a miracle.
dam i didn't get a notification for this I'm so happy i come back to check regularly.
same.me too..its fun to hear his review
OMG the puzzle in the ship.... I remember I was trying to solve it for a day... to the point my head started hurting so my grandma took the game and sent me to bed lolol when I woke up and got on the game I somehow managed to solve the damm puzzle.... soooo I guess Thank you grandma lol
Interesting. I ended up going about that ship code puzzle a different way. The line goes "Tonight makes 11" So I deduced that "Tonight" only hid the number 2 and that the mystery number between 2 and 11 would be the number that combines with 2 to "make 11", hence the number 9. As annoying as the puzzle was, it's neat that one can potentially go about solving it in different ways.
Loving the battle network reviews and am looking forward to seeing more battle network/StarForce videos! Keep up the great work man! 😁
Where Number Chaos REALLY shines for me is using it to power up the top gatling gun chip, Super Vulcan. 12 shots... 10 base damage each..... PLUS 50 EACH....... equals a disgusting 720 damage. And with additional standard Plus chips and/or FullSynchro? Shiiiiiiit.
You can't use Full Synchro when using any kind of unison or when you are in dark state. And number chaos does not stack with double point/colour point or other attack plus.
@@hiroran9796 No full synchro in unison? I thought I'd done it plenty in the day, but it HAS been a while, I may well be trippin'. XD The rest of my point still stands, though: Number Chaos + Super Vulcan + extra Plus chips (which I would 100% SWEAR I've done) = a goddamn MONSTER.
Great review! Was super nostalgic for me to watch you stumble through the nonsensical dungeons and even more nonsensical story. When my brother and I were children, we received this game as a birthday present, and it was next to fucking impossible to finish with it when the height of sources when we were stuck were two 2009 RUclips walkthroughs. We ended up finishing the game in the end, but it took about a year plus a few months. Well, my brother finished the game, I got to Nebula Gray and checked out (because you're basically done at that point). Excellent work! Can't wait for more!
Hey man I found your channel a few months ago and I watched every video since. Thanks for the content man and I am excited for BN6
In regards to the final boss, even cornering yourself can work in your favor. I went in without float shoes because i was using all the parts to max out the buster, and i found something out
Nebula Grey's two main attacks, the fireball arcs and the flame that follows you, can't touch you if youre surrounded by empty tiles. So my strategy was get toad soul, intentionally corner myself when nebula grey uses the tile breaking move, and just take a ton of free pot shots at him while the only thing that can possibly damage you is if he decides to summon dark mega man
In regard to Regal's plan, Nebula Grey is supposedly a digitized version of "Man's Evil Soul" (or something, I don't remember the quote proper), the idea is that Nebula Grey, Man's Evil, will cause others to act evil. Doesn't change the fact that his plan is STILL artificial.
He's back, and right after I competed the entire BN saga so now I can't be spoiled.
I have been waiting for this moment since your first battle network review. The frustration from that kendo minigame on a gameboy sp was the thing that haunted me in my nightmares.
Yo part 2! Part 1 is what got my sub, and to get me to watch you stuff
Ah KNIJohn always good content and an hour long one to, sit back and grab popcorn people its a good one
Since the collection is out, I was debating playing both Colonel and Protoman versions, then the both versions on Double Team DS for a total of 4 times - then I remembered the ninja mini game and immediately changed my mind.
A note on that Dark Lance/Chaos Tomahawk thing: The enemy it's best suited for is actually the most annoying boss in the game, Cloud Man. Even in Cloud Man's final, strongest version, it will take him out in TWO HITS. He hangs out exclusively on the back row, too. Now, ordinarily the move would push the surviving victims forward one column, but as long as you haven't destroyed those damned clouds that he uses to hide behind, they'll actually block HIM from being pushed to safety, turning his own defensive strategy inside out and trapping him in a fortress-turned-death trap of his own making. It is GLORIOUS to eradicate him in 4 seconds if you got the Dark Lance in your opening hand. Considering how powerful that makes his SP Navi chip in turn, it's well worth it.
I've now watched most of these megaman reviews, and so far the instance at 40:50 where they acknowledge the existence of how the team members cross over is the most mind-blowing thing for them to, as you said, "not gloss over". What in the fuck was this series I loved as a child.
The whole DS version combining everything to 1 game was wtf.
1:04
I remember seeing that when I was like 7 and being absolutely clueless about what it all meant. I got the part that Roll was made evil but any of the kinkiness just went completely over my head.
Hahaha, maybe because English wasnt my first language but that keypad code puzzle on the boat make sense the first time I read it
*gestures at Colonel soul* "Yeah, this is good..."
*turns to Proto soul* "...but I like THIS."
