    Good morning Michael. Just got through watching your video and I must say every time you go on a pota event, I never realized how beautiful Wisconsin is. And I hope Christine had fun at the blacksmith shop. What she made is beautiful. Thanks again for putting the parks on the air. Have fun and we’ll catch you on the next one.

    • @KB9VBRAntennas
      @KB9VBRAntennas  Месяц назад +1

      I’m glad you enjoyed it. The first step of the cheese making process is that milk is placed in a large vat and heated. Rennet is added, this causes the milk proteins to coagulate. The end result are curds, small chunky pieces of “cheese.” The curds are pressed, aged, inoculated with molds, whatever it takes to make the endless variety of cheeses. In Wisconsin, fresh cheese curds are a common snack. You can find them at the cheese factories small retail outlets, in grocery stores, or other little shops. Restaurants will even batter and deep fry them. They are amazing.

    17:15 If I can suggest, I just started using picaridin-based lotion instead of any sort of spray, and I found it super effective so far. Even flies were staying away from me.

    • @KB9VBRAntennas
      @KB9VBRAntennas  Месяц назад +1

      I will admit that sprays are hit or miss and lotion is the best solution. I started using the Picardin based Repel Tick Defense spray based on a recommendation from Travis. He says it's the stuff the USFS staff prefers. I like it because it won't melt plastics.

    Looks like the flies and mosquito's where flying heavy at that 2nd spot you were at. I was also curious if they had those dreaded no-see-ums like upper Minnisota and the state of FL where I currently live. That sure is some pretty country up there. 73 and take care. Mosquitos weren't bad, but those gnats were terrible. The moment you sat still, they would swarm your head. I was doused with the repellent, but the camera really picked them up.

    Michael, thanks for your videos on POTA and the others as well! I have a question for you... Does the direction you put your fabric on the ground influence the propagation? 73, dale W5WI

    • @KB9VBRAntennas
      @KB9VBRAntennas  Месяц назад

      Not in any appreciable way. The size of the fabric is too small to affect directivity. In my readings about using ground screens, it's been found that the screen needs to be at least a 1/4 in length to direct signals, and at that, the amount of directivity is slight.

    Michael, I noted that in this video you are using "Smart Logger" and I am wondering how you like it compared to other logging software and Apps?
    Thanks for another wonderful video.

    • @KB9VBRAntennas
      @KB9VBRAntennas  Месяц назад +1

      I’ve been using SmartLogger for about the last six weeks. I like it. It’s responsive and doesn’t have the bugs that Hamrs has. Plus logs can be saved to the cloud so they can be shared between devices. I’ll do a video on it, I’m just getting some mileage under my belt with it first

    Mike I’ve got a quick question for you. What do you use to get the radio audio through the video while you are utilizing your headset? Thanks Mike. WQØA 🍻

    • @KB9VBRAntennas
      @KB9VBRAntennas  Месяц назад

      I use a 2 channel wireless microphone to record my audio (Rode Wireless Go II). I wear one microphone for my audio and the 2nd microphone is attached to the Line Out port on the transceiver. You can a clean line out on Yaesu radios by connecting to the data port. The two channels are then mixed down and levels adjusted during editing. I have video that explains my process in detail: ruclips.net/video/tOqzZPphE7k/видео.html

    I wonder if elevation alone is enough to explain how much wider you got at Belmont. Seemed like it was less "in the hole"!

    • @KB9VBRAntennas
      @KB9VBRAntennas  Месяц назад +1

      I was curious, so I had to look. Yellowstone lake is at 843 feet and the base of Belmont Mound, where I activated, was 1243 feet. That could be a logical explanation of the difference.
